zonic's zoom: Gaming Advanced
Hey guys, last week we looked at how to run anti eco’s and a little bit about the money system. Anyways this week we will take a look at how could you get the maximum out of your practice clanwars.
I will just sum up what you are about to read, first of all I will tell you guys how and when we practice in mTw, furthermore who we play against, and then what we do before a official match. I will also tell you how to run tactics in pracc, and some wise words you should keep in mind when you play. This article is big, so the first part is today with how we do in mTw and so on, The second part next week, with more details about practice.
Hope you guys enjoy.
PART 1
- mTw praccsmTw praccs
- Who we play against in pcw mostly?
- Going through tactics
- Communication
- What we do the day we are playing a official match
When we play in mTw it’s really important for us to get as much out of the practice as possible, because you don’t want to end up in an official match losing because of minor mistakes such as communication problems, or stupid misunderstandings. That’s why we use the pracc’s to get better as a team, and to minimize these mistakes so that they won’t happen when it really counts. If you lose a match because your opponents plays better than you, it’s a fair game, but you get to sit back with a bad taste in your mouth when you feel you threw the match away.
Hopefully with this article, I can help you guys with some of these problems.
It’s very simple in mTw, if we have a tournament coming up, we usually play from 17:00 CET to around 22-23:00. Sometimes we even play to like 1:00 AM, but you have to feel you get something out of your praccs, and if we do, we play as much as possible.
When we meet at 17:00, ave usually asks us to join our server, then we use 1-2 hour talking to new tactics, improving our old tactics, or talk some new CT setups on the different bombspots. It’s really important that you don’t forget the CT side, many people just make their T tacs, and forget about the CT setups, who think about how to retake a bombspot as CT nowadays? Not many people right?
And what is it about these praccs, how can you use it to become a better team, it’s very simple.
We have being using that quote since me and hpx made the NoA lineup fully Danish. Don’t try to use your praccs to figure out how weak they are on one bombsite and then rush it 15 rounds in a row to win the pcw. Try running the tactics you guys are having problems with instead.
Another thing is when you play, and a problem comes up, try using the eco to just idle and then deal with the problem, and if two people are arguing, then let them and see if they can work things out, and if you as the tacleader can see that their argument isn’t helping anyone, then step in and ask them to deal with it after the break. It’s very important for some people to solve the problems right after they happen, because you easily forget them when the pcw is over.
And the last thing, let’s say you have a tournament coming up in a month, and you haven’t played any maps with your new team, or new tactics. So you have to work with four maps in a month. Then don’t start out playing dust2 and nuke for two weeks, and then train and inferno for the next two weeks, and then you got a problem facing a team at the tournament on dust2, with no practice on that map for two weeks. Try to play all four maps. Run tactics on dust2 and nuke first, then the next week train and inferno and the last two weeks, go through all the maps, and play all four maps as well.
Who we play against in pcw mostly?
There is a simple rule, don’t play a team you know you’re gonna run over. Play against people that are on the same level as you, or even better. You might get your ass kicked, but then you know if your tactics work. See it like this, they might be better than you guys individually, but if you win rounds because your tactics, you get confirmed that some of the things you are doing, works.

We in mTw play teams from top10 of Europe, and if we can’t find anyone there, we play against teams lower than that, we try to avoid Danish teams and teams we can meet in the nearest future. It’s important you avoid playing a team you might to meet in the nearest future, because then you cannot run you A-tactics.
Going through tactics
When we meet around 17:00 we join our server and then ave goes through our tactics, and let’s say we have official match against fnatic on dust2, we go through dust2 talking about the gunrounds, CT setups, 4th rounds etc. What we can improve and all kinds of things.

mTw going through tactics, before the final at SLAP LIVE #14.
When we go through tactics it’s important than you talk the CT side as well, talk about your previous pcws how things went, and what tactics you need to change, improve etc. Another thing is flashes, test some flashes and see if they work against your opponents. Ave also talks about what tactics he is going to use for the tonights match, and then we come with some input or just agree / disagree about his plan. And last, when you go through gunrounds and 4th round, it’s extremely important that everybody knows the exact point of the tactic, where to flash, where to run, everything. These 2 rounds are so important for a match, and you really don’t wanna lose it because of a misunderstanding.
Communication
Then to the most important thing probably, the communication. There is nothing worse than a guy not saying where the opponents are, right after he is dead. We in mTw have a special rule;
DEAD -> SHORT PRECISE INFO -> WHINE -> SCHH
Anyways, it’s important when you give info it’s short and precise, and for god’s sake, say if they have the bomb.
Here's an example:
Inferno
Me and mJe are covering b2 (small site) on Inferno, and sometimes the terrorists rush banana and nade towards b2, not saying they are rushing b2, but just throwing HE’s if an eventually awp were standing there. Anyways what can me and mJe do to make the round easier for us?
4 grenades towards b2:
mJe: 4 nades banana!!
zonic: I can hear them in banana!
Sunde can go to b2 and help me and mJe while we are counter flashing them so it will delay their attack, which means 3 in b2 when they are coming.
ave and whiMp can therefore go offensive hallways because there can only be 1 guy there, they have to hurry but still it would surprise the 4 terrorists if they fall back to make a b1 attack.
It’s very simple, and many of you guys think; “we knew that?” – Yeah you did, but can you improve your info when you die? Probably.
The info is extremely important, and one day I will make an article about the communication in full details.
What we do the day we are playing a official match
Personally when I am going to play an official match (important) I try not to make appointments and just focus on the game I’m going to play tonight. Some people like playing a lot before a game, some people don’t, others find it useful to drink yourself drunk before a game, who cares, what’s important is that you find your way, so you know you can perform 100%.
I usually wake up, take a shower, just stay happy, watch some demos and play with some of my friends before an important game. I don’t like playing 20 minutes before an official match, I hate it actually. I need a small break, where I just think the game through, what to do if they do this and that.
Let’s say we were meeting fnatic on dust2. Then we would probably meet around 17:00, going through our tactics, then play 1 or 2 pracc’s on the map, and if the time were 20:00 and we were playing the match at 21:00, we would download a demo of fnatic playing dust2. Then not counter their tactics 100% because you can’t expect them to play 100% like their previous match, but just be prepared that they might make a B1 split in the gunround or something like that.
