WCG 2009 in Chengdu, China
Today the World Cyber Games committee have announced the location of their 2009 event. Chengdu in China will be hosting arguably the largest and most prestigious event in e-sports. The formal announcement will be made on 23rd April when the Chengdu city officials meet with WCG officials to sign the deal.
The location was chosen based on a number of factors, including: infrastructure, geography, marketing and coverage.
Hyoung-Seok Kim, CEO of International Cyber Marketing, organizers of the World Cyber Games said:
“Chengdu already has an incredible reputation for being one of the world’s elite cities when it comes to hosting video game competitions and we have no doubt that they will be a wonderful and exciting host city that provides World Cyber Games players and fans with a unique and amazing setting for the premiere event and competition.”
The city is steeped in over two thousand years of History, and WCG’s slogan; “Beyond the Game” applies to this historical and cultural city, as gamers visit the capital of the Sichuan Province.
The 2008 Global WCG takes place from the 5th–9th November in Cologne, Germany.
