dignitas forfeits Hitbox Ch'ship 3 final

LDLC won Hitbox Arena Championship 3 following a 2-1 victory over dignitas, who forfeited the match due to constant DDoS attacks.

In a sad ending to a tournament that had garnered much attention from the CS:GO community, Hitbox Arena Championship came to a close this Tuesday with the grand final between LDLC and dignitas, with the winner walking away with $5,000 going to the winner and $3,000 to the losing side.

The first map of this best-of-three series, de_inferno, was played out in normal conditions, except for some problems with VAC authentication system, with dignitas picking up a 16-13 victory after losing the Terrorist side 7-8 in the first half.

The problems arose during the second half of de_overpass. After dignitas had taken an 11-4 lead, Nicolai "device" Reedtz started experiencing DDoS attacks, which led to multiple pauses. Even after calling Jacob "Pimp" Winneche to fill in, dignitas felt there were no conditions to finish the match and thus forfeited the last two maps.

Hitbox Arena Championship 3 final standings:

1. France LDLC - $5,000
2. Denmark dignitas - $3,000
3-4. Poland Virtus.pro - $1,000
3-4. Sweden fnatic - $1,000

Below you can find some of the reactions from dignitas' players on Twitter:

After being criticised over his attitude during the match, LDLC's Nathan "NBK-" Schmitt also commented on the situation, saying:

"We need to prepare for DH Winter after fragbite Masters, so we cannot reschedule the game. We agreed to play the game on LAN, but Hitbox will not allow it," he wrote.

"If you think I am pulling a d*ck move, think whatever you want. However, you should know that dignitas did the same against another online team for the exact same reasons.

"The DDoSer is the real ass in this situation, but we cannot be nice and reschedule every single game because there is one problem every time.

"Some teams - weirdly - never have a problem online. Who is to blame?"

Sorry but I wanted a high comments to say. Why is fetish flaming the admins? Why do you think hitbox has these championships? They want exposure they want people to watch the games to expand their brand and keep sponsors happy, the tems play for the prizemoney which they offer, how does it benefit them in any way shape or form for you to play an offline game? You're team have been getting ddosed for months nearly every single big game and you haven't been able to sort it out, you have had plenty of games in other tournaments were you have played offline to no benefit of those events organizers and most have been good to you and let you play offline. If I was a tourny organiser I would never invite dignitas to an online tourny ever again until they can prove they have been able to do something about their ddosing issues. I realise you cant stop the ddosers cuz you obviously would have by now but dont go about flamin the admins and organisers because its not their fault at all . ps hikosucks

So they forfeit and the game doesn't get played or any viewers. Or they could play off stream on a new server with no viewers and finish the game legit. Either way they get no viewers or exposure, except now hitbox arena look stupid because they would rather have a lame finish to the tournament that deal with DDOSers

Yeah, it was my response to why he flamed the admins. I actually betted for LDLC, but this really sucks, I could've taken that loss, its just fun to watch games and bet on them. Rather lose them honest than get them back in this shitty way.

I would be mad as hell if i was a digntias player. They clearly had a great chance of winning the match. The admins could just have let them play offline instead of letting DDoS decide the income, making them earn money/skins this way, they will just keep doing it if it profits them. LDLC could have scheduled a rematch. It's after all a final. NBK's attitude lost me his respect aswell, maybe he should go read dupreeh's comment ( hltv.org/?pageid=18&threadid=672020#r662.. ) and help with a solution then if he has one since they tried everything they can.

You can't just 'change your IP' with some ISPs and if I remember correctly what Anders said, they only have 1 ISP in Denmark

Perhaps it's not as simple as with some other ISPs but obviously all ISPs have the capability to assign a new IP address to someone suffering from DDoS problems. + There are at least 3 major ISPs in Denmark.

There are three major groups, DOCSIS (YouSee, Stofa), Fiber (Pretty much all, but few can get it), xDSL (All). On DOCSIS connections you can change your IP in seconds just by changing the MAC address of the router, or the computer if you disable NAT. Both Fiber and xDSL bind the IP to the location, so you have to get the ISP to change your IP. I don't know about fiber, but the xDSL providers pretty much never do that, and if they do, it takes forever. I guess device has an xDSL connection. He should play at a friends place until he gets it sorted out.

It's not like we're guessing at what is and isn't possible here. He said in the post that it's possible but it takes a week to get changed. Personally I don't care what they do. Sure I'd love to watch good, uninterrupted CS matches, but I'm not the one forfeiting hundreds in potential winnings over ddos issues.

They didn't have the time to reschedule the match though. The same thing happened a while ago with Dignitas vs Fnatic. Fnatic was getting heavily ddosed but Dignitas wouldn't reschedule. Fnatic had 2 standins get ddosed but Fetish told them they were too busy to reschedule, forcing Fnatic to forfeit.

it isn't their fault but who does it benefit to completely cancel the games? nobody. not letting them play off-stream once ddos has become unavoidable only gives hitbox a bad reputation so i understand the players anger. dignitas players are also to blame for failing to do anything to prevent the attacks but i don't think much can be done if they know the ip even if they were to use a vpn. though im sure changing your ip isn't that difficult either.

You know jackshit. Sorry to tell you that, but keep reading the comments and you will be enlightened about the danish ISP situation and vice versa. I dont have to put it all on repeat, just stating pure facts. Even aizy that is lucky enough to have VPN and dynamic IP was ddosed as well. So yes, sorry to break it to you, it is possible to be ddosed. If the ddos-org has your ip, you will be fucked - dynamic or static doesn't matter apparently.

What's the difference between playing the stream offline or having a team forfeit due to constant ddos attacks? While I agree that Dignitas needs to do something about their issue, I think it's pretty shitty of the community to completely blame Dignitas for this.

I don't know why you would copy paste NBK's facebook post? What does this have to do with them not being allowed to play it out offline? Just shows that they don't care much about the entertainment or production value it seems - Having a win by forfeit in a 10k tournament is stupid. The casters didn't help the cause either.

Admins were wrong. Both teams agreed to play on LAN. They could stream the game anyways. Or they could let them play the rest of the game offline and "stream" after it was done. People would want to see the rest of the game anyway. Bad decisions by the admins. Bad reaction by Fetish.

@Brittaah there's no way to protect you from ddos attacks, if wrong persons finds out your IP, there's nothing u can do, just if you have a dinamic IP ISP, then you can disconnect and connect with a new IP, but probably they would get your new IP anyway. Even multinational corporations suffer from DDOS atacks and there's nothing anyone can do.

You just explained yourself how one can protect themselves from DDoS attacks. "if wrong persons finds out your IP" See? There it is. Don't give them your IP address. Multinational corporations suffer from DDoS attacks but that is not the same thing as we discuss here because they're public facing services.

Okay so as I mentioned before, aizy changed his IP 2hours before our virtur.pro game, had a VPN and still got ddossed. There are so many problems and so little knowledge about this issue. Something as "simple" as changing your IP takes ages in DK and you have to have your inet switched off for days for it to work. And that last part about the other teams, has happend for them aswell. Just at a whole new level for us.

If he changed his IP + using a VPN and they still got his IP he probably have some spyware on his computer, that way the ddoser will always find his real IP even if he changes it + using a VPN.

what's weird about that? you wouldn't be bit upset if you are leading 1-0 in a bo3 and you simply cannot continue playing because some autistic retards decide so, thus lose an extra 2K reward?

Completely subjective. I wouldn't say it's a good thing exactly, but some people are big on numbers. I'd rather fuck one woman 1,000 times than 1,000 women one time each.

? Lol, there you go the "onlinerJ" dude, did any of the LDLC players got DDoSed? The teams were all getting DDoSed since lurppis told them to fix that and protect themselves now ONLY Dignitas (that i've seen) are getting DDoSed, you think I don't know what Im talking about? I got attacked aswell, tons of times. But since then 0 attacks, I don't understand what's ur point. Of course it is impossible to protect urself 100% but you think that the kids that DDoS are "good" "hackers" ? Lol'd, you almost killed me tho. The people that does that are only kids that they're losing skins, wtf are you talking about? Go ahead and go own teams that you rekt online on LAN instead of coming here and tell me that i'm dumb. But then again, this is HLTV. Peace

True, but you can prevent or "delay". Ask the other dudes that changed their ip and bought VPN's. As as I saw here one topic: "Dignitas always getting DDoS" and why is that? Can you please explain to me? I'm not saying that's their fault but ATLEAST they have to fix that before the games. I'm sorry but the viewers are getting tired of that.

most stupid thing ever that's EXACTLY what the ddosers wanted (a win for LDLC). the organizers should have postponed the match till a solutions has been found. now you gave the ddoser the best reason to continue, cause now they know that they can actually 100% decide the outcome of the game.

Why blame the organizers for ddos. It’s a rotten world filled with rotten people that will do anything for profit. It’s really sad that ddos is so simple to perform and the only solution to the problem is that the ISP’s around the world start to implement protection for it to its customers. They have the knowhow and capacity to handle it. Normal customers should not need to worry about getting flooded.

ok my point being: It is only one player (and some navi player but that does count here) so its not the admins fault, nor ldlcs, nor dignitas, only devices fault taht he cant properly protect himself! Im not aware if device said already something about it and why he cant do it or smth, but it should be possible, otherwise he has to go and play at a friendsplace or smth ;D and to the tournament not allowing it to be played off stream: It makes totally sense to not do that. Hitbox and their partners host this championship for exposure, creating hits on hitboxes site and on partner sites. Ofc they now have huge exposure due to that incident but they dont have they streamers stream on hitbox and do not have the viewers/clicks on their site :D

"it is only one player.. (and some navi player...)" Alright, let me stop you right there. It has been aizy, device and xyp9x mainly, from Dignitas. Then there is Neo, TaZ, s1mple, worldedit, fetish and a long list of other players who have been ddosed. The game could have been streamed anyway, just not life. We have seen it before in Fragbite Masters, which is why Dig eventually got to the final, because they played offline and then wouldn't get ddosed. Those games were still broadcasted by Anders and Semmler, without anyone really knowing the results of the matches.

Sure they could bring down their connections as well. If people just read a few of the tweets that some of the dignitas players put up, they'd know that they do quite a bit to try a prevent this. But of course there's all the retards coming along saying stuff like 'omg just don't use skypelol. what a bunch of n00bzzZZ'

Someone felt sure that LDLC would win this easily and that Dignitas wouldn't be putting up too much of a fight, which would not give the ddos too much of an effect. Or maybe they simply didn't have the ability to find the LDLC players ip's - though I think NBK has been ddos'ed before.

Fetish was being a dick towards the admins, there is no benefit for the sponsors if they play without stream or play it and broadcast later. NBK is starting to act like a diva, he keeps crying and whining and acting like a bitch.

Really disappointed by this decision from Hitbox. There is really no reason to have them forfeit instead of playing the match offline and then upload VODs after the game has finished. Both teams should be treated fairly.

it's a clever business method for the Ddossers. They contact the opposing side of an online tournament to make an offer. "We give you this win by ddosing, and you give us x% of your winnings. Win/win =) - and i see soooo many brits whiteknighting this shit crew; "Dig stupid, no protection, no precautions etc." Dig have done plenty enough trying to avoid these shitty attacks. Get a grip and stop blaming dignitas nor LDLC for this. Tho the business offer sounds viable.

LDLC are so exausted to play they did like 3 lan in a row , no time to really rest + they have to prepare faceit & dhw. You have a good lan in the end of the week , and you don't want to waste the whole evening to wait someone who get ddos , (you get exaust tired from that , then you waste time that you can put to pracc or watch demos) . Admins could have change things but the only fault is fuckind ddos.

Online competition is turning fast into a joke. Hitbox admins took the worst possible deceision to forfeit a final and I've got no idea in what world do they think that they made the right one. Ton of bad publicity for their brand. They just contributed with their action the DDOS attackers and should be ashamed of themselves. Their casters should also learn how to act professional because they'll never go anywhere with their current attitude.

Dignitas isn't the only team to get DDoSed often .. Doesn't NiP get DDoS'ed like practically every game too? Which brings me to my next question. If NiP, a premier gaming house and one of the biggest gaming teams out there in the world can't stop DDoS, why is everyone blaming Dignitas players?

So aizy changed his IP 2 hours before our last online games vs. virtuspro and he used a VPN. He still got ddossed. Its honestly amazing how clueless some people are and the lack of knowledge on this matter is vast. To top it all off, the admins blamed us for being attacked. We offered to play the game off stream and let them cast the demo at a later time - as its being done in all other leagues, but for some reason the admins didnt think that was an option. I dont care about the money, but the fact that finals are being ruined by ddosserz and incompetent admins is just a joke. We play these games for the spectators and what tournament would rather have a forfeit final than a played final 0_o?!

Wouldn't it be possible to blacklist the ip's thats forcing too much traffic on your router/hp? Ex: Ddos guy 1; attacks your router to bring it down. If his request forces the router to lag or overload, the guy will be blacklisted immediately. -> In other words; Create a "roof" for the amount of traffic that can be requested, in order to prevent the router/inet from going down...?

Its all good. LDLC can afford to buy some tissues and painkillers after gettin rekt on stage, in Paris, without lube.

Scandinavia for attitude (I hate being redirected to Stockholm servers, that's were the most retards play), Germany for hackers and French for pretty much everything. France is like your Sweden in EU West that's meant to spoil EU West gameplay. Dutch are pretty annoying too, and Russians are rude.

You guys forgot one missing possibility here. The admin that refuse offline play so the game can be finish might bet a lot of money on LDLC who is obviously was in the losing side. =\ wonder if they are the one DDOSing I mean, usually when something happens.. The one supporting it benefits from it. If the game is played offline, hitbox dont get viewers for the rest of the game, but they punish the DDOSer and keep a good name. If Dig cant play it online, hitbox STILL dont get viewers and now I am hating them. If this keep going, DDOSer will keep making money off lounge and ruining it for everyone. I am boycotting hitbox thanks

It's not LDLCs obligation to bend over backwards and fuck their schedule to appease another team. It sucks, but you can't blame LDLC for any of this. They are professionals and they have other obligations to other tournaments. Dig has a serious problem and I don't know the solution, but it isn't blaming your opponents.
