NiP, GTR nominated for awards

Ninjas in Pyjamas and Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund have been nominated for two Game Awards, in the categories of ESports Team of the Year and ESports Player of the Year, respectively.

The 2014 Video Game Awards will take place on Friday, December 5, at the AXIS Theater in Las Vegas. Fans will be able to attend the event or watch it online through several platforms, including Steam, PS Network, Xbox Live and YouTube.

Among the categories are two related to eSports, one for Team of the Year and the other for Player of the Year. CS:GO is represented in both categories, by Ninjas in Pyjamas and Christopher "⁠GeT_RiGhT⁠" Alesund, respectively.

GeT_RiGhT nominated for Esports Player of the Year award

The nominees were selected by a jury of 28 international media, including PC Gamer, IGN, Kotaku and Polygon.

In both ESports categories, it will be the fans who pick the winner by casting a vote on the event's website.

Below are the nominees for the Team of the Year and the Player of the Year awards:

2nd in Katowice is nothing compared to other teams. You could say fnatic deserve it since they placed 2nd in Cologne and 1st in ESWC, FACEIT, & Fragbite Masters. In Cologne NiP got lucky in their matchups. They got fucking destroyed by Epsilon 16-2 and lost more rounds than they won. They've made a lineup change, lost nearly all of their online and LAN matches, crashed out of group stage every recent LAN, and gotten crushed. Not to mention they've lost to a 3rd or 4th-rate French team, Platinium, 10-16 on cobblestone, a map they've practiced a lot. As of right now NiP is a joke. Yes, they don't deserve it. For 2013, I'd vote for them, but for 2014, certainly not.

2nd in Katowice when they arguably had the much easier road to the finals (csgo-emsone.com/katowice-2014/finals/ ) and choked insanely hard in said finals? It's mentionable but I feel as if LGB achieved more in Katowice than NiP. 1st in Cologne was by the skin of their cobblestone, along with a practically free pass to the quarterfinals. Dreamhack Summer, again, NiP had a pretty much free group stage victory (dreamhack.se/dhs14/2014/06/06/the-csgo-g.. ) but this is probably their most impressive tourney this year for them, although facing Na'Vi in the finals was probably the easiest final they could have gotten. Not to mention they didn't have to face VP once and would have lost to HellRaisers had it not been for some massive step ups individually in the final map, namely friberg. Copenhagen Games, again, NiP got a free group stage pass. The entire bracket as well was extremely easy up until the finals, getting a free win (BYE), going vs ENCE, then Reason in the quarterfinals (not gonna say this was free but tier 2 at best with that lineup) and Dignitas in the semifinals (dig + semi = lol ez loss) which in the end gave NiP quite an easy road to the final. In comparison, Dignitas had to face fnatic, LDLC had to face onlinesports, Titan, and VP (who they lost to in the semis) and VP had to face LGB and LDLC. The finals vs VP was a good showing, but was again pretty close. Not to say this game wasn't a good showing from NiP, but GeT_RiGhT stepped quite far up for this game in particular. Speaking of GeT_RiGhT, he definitely isn't the #1 player in CS:GO anymore and in my eyes, never has been. So yes, I feel as if NiP doesn't deserve this nomination for their 2014 accomplishments.

Any team I'd put in my top 10 could easily have made the finals of Copenhagen Games given the spot NiP was in. Dreamhack Summers brackets, again, any team I'd put in top 10 would easily beat ENCE and Berzerk, even if they lost to Nameless (which would have been surprising) Katowice is a story that I do agree with you partially on - compLexity isn't a laughing stock and neither is dignitas (despite semifinals) so that's a harder bracket - but still the easiest of the 4 quarterfinals and 2 semifinals in my opinion. Cologne is an exclusive one towards NiP though - the fact that they "luckily" got Cobblestone as map 3 during both the quarter and semifinal and won it 16-14 both times is just laughable in my opinion. NiP obviously prepared a lot for Cologne and cobble/overpass was obviously trained plenty - possibly more than other teams (conspiracy that they knew first blablabla) so they definitely got lucky on that map 3 draw. IMO any other map vs Cloud9 and they would have lost.

Ok in the end its all about opinions and i respect your. The cph one, tell me what teams could "easily" beat dignitas in semi? Also, doesnt really matter in semi. The fact that they beat vp, who beat them all is not enough i guess...? Dreamhack summer, thats the group stage you are talking about. And by that logic, I will compare with other groups. Group b was the hardest, vp sk fnatic and london c. But what about group D ( reason, o4o ) and group C ( flipside, expert ). I could also say that nip would easily advance those groups. Katowice, thats hugely your opinion, im not gonna say anything. Cologne, you cant say nip was "possibly" prepared on cobble/overpass more than other team because they knew first, all those rumours are bullshit till proven. I wouldnt doubt if all the other teams practice like mad on those 2 maps since everyone given the same amount of time.

CPH: Considering if you watched the semi, dignitas played okay but definitely could have won inferno but they made some mistakes that could have easily been fixed had they not been choking. Quick Edit: in #166 I did say this was still a pretty impressive showing for them and imo the best of the year so far. DHS: I do agree that pretty much every group was extremely easy in dreamhack summer but they had a quarterfinals against a broken Titan and a semifinals vs an inconsistent HellRaisers. However, looking at the brackets closer, 3/4s of the quarters are on the "easier" side. Katowice: So is most of what I'm saying :) Cologne: I can say they were possibly prepared but it's just a rumor that I cannot prove, you are correct. That would make sense, but realistically I thought they'd be voting by most popular and most active (CS:GO's highest records are in 2014, even if it wasn't released in 2014). I am quite sure Far Cry 4 just came out like 4 days ago, and they said it themselves "has to be released by November 25th" in which case games that aren't even out yet could win in their respective categories. I've seen a lot of gameplay from the new CoD, and i also see a lot of people defending it saying that it's actually quite good etc. It really is nothing new, the whole "jet pack" thing is really just "Titanfall" all over again. Nothing new, as usual. Imagine if some of the smaller developers who have new creative ideas got the same budget that the COD makers have..

The new CoD actually reminds me a bit of Halo honestly, but since I'm not a console gamer I was never interested in it. I think the real issue is that CoD had a winning formula, so they milked it as hard as they could because it was a massive success. Though it's losing popularity left and right and even their ratings are plummeting, so they borrowed features from other franchises that succeeded in the past. I agree that the new CoD is better than the rest, and it brings something "new" to the franchise. Though these days nothing is ever actually "new", just mixed together differently.

Honestly, I think having two separate companies working on them and having a new CoD released every year kind of ruined them. People get bored if they're always releasing a new game that's the exact same thing. I used to love Assassin's Creed for example, now I can't stand it (last one i played fully was AC3). They're making 2 games per year!

pointless and the most popular player will win anyways but if you were to be fair to each game and consider the talent the play against, how hard the competition in the game is, and how dominant a player actually was etc. mango - ssbm infiltration - sf4 zest/soo - sc2 ^ more realistic choices mango has dominated nearly every tournament in a game with 5-6 players that are right now the best of all time same with infiltration but he lost evo GTR isn't a bad choice, but it's a down year, he probably won't be the #1 player of 2014 on hltv (obv can change at DHW)
