Hacker: "DHW will not be cheat-free"

99damage.de has conducted an interview with a former cheat developer, who sheds some light into the underground cheating scene in CS:GO.

With just 48 hours left before the start of DreamHack Winter, discussion has been rife about whether Valve will be able to keep the event cheat-free following the bans recently handed to Simon "smn" Beck, Hovik "KQLY" Tovmassian and Gordon "Sf" Giry.

An anonymous German former cheat developer has now stated that Valve is not doing enough to wipe cheats out of the professional scene and that the players who were cheating before will continue to do so, including at the Swedish major.

He also revealed some disturbing facts about the undergroung cheating community and how customisable these hacks are, explaining that, since it is "almost impossible" to detect whether a player is cheating or not, except if you have a look at their .DLL files, smn's ban was down to poor customisation.

Below you can find a snippet of the interview, conducted by 99damage.de:

Let's talk again about the conspicuity of a cheater. Could I use such a private hack as an inexperienced cheater or would I be noticed easier because I have no experience of how to hack correctly?

First you actually have to get access to the private hacks, the good cheat coders are not distributing them to just about everyone. But let’s assume you’ve got it. If you are using the hack, your shots are basically directed. You just have to be close to the model and the rest is done by the hack. But this is only the case if you have default settings or no reasonable ones. If you have decent settings, then you cannot be busted through a demo, no way. But for this you need very good know-how and aiming. In theory you can make your own individual settings for each weapon and for each shot, what should happen or by what percentage the hack should help. For example you can set up the spray control in a way that all shots hit, even at long distance. At this level it is almost impossible to detect that and prove it's a hack. The only option in this case is to read the DLL files. Smn for instance had poor settings, so it was noticeable, but even in his case no one could say 100% that he has running something in those matches.

Is the coder setting up the cheat however I ask him to, or do I have to do that on my own? Is the cheat on my hard disk then?

Every cheat coder does that differently, depending on how the cheat works. supex0's cheat runs through Steam Cloud and he set it up to download into a DLL-file automatically as soon as you login to your account. Another possibility is to simply integrate the cheat into a workshop map you want to warm up on. You have to tell him in advance what exactly you expect from the cheat, so he can regulate the settings for you. You have to be an administrator yourself in order to modify the cheat on your own, so that's usually done by the coder himself. Then again there are also people like ko1n who simply developed an app that lets you control everything. That's an exception though, since ko1n is a student and knows everything about application administration - but he is just doing it as a hobby, and is only giving the cheats to close friends. He could earn loads of money, if he wanted to, because that app is the best thing out there at the moment.

Do you think that we will now see a cheat-free DreamHack?

Everyone that has been cheating will continue doing so. supex0 has probably updated his hacks. But the hacks from the Danish coder, VALVE doesn’t even have a source code of it so it remains undetected. The only ones that have been busted were those who used supex0’s hacks. What we could do is to keep the DLL files and once the Anti-Cheat tools reached a certain point we could prove the hack. You can compare it with doping, the blood samples are stored a certain time until they are able to prove the doping with new tests. It goes the same way with undetected cheats from which you don’t know their source code.

If you had to tell us a number, how many players are cheating on a professional level?

Well, it is hard to tell unless you can check the DLL-files. If you want to hear a number from me, I’d say at least 5 in Germany and internationally about 30.

So pretty much, 99 damage did an interview with the beers on the wall and made it all up? FYI you cannot do an interview with "anonymous" and make it credible... For example: Here's my interview with "former hacker - HXorBoy" -So, HXorBoy, how many times did you hack in CS:GO?? About a billion. -People going to hack in DHW? Yeah, fo sho. -Are you German? Nein. -Heard it here first from HXorBoy people.

or you could pull your head and your rose tinted glasses out of your ass and realize the reality of things which = scumbags wherever there is money. olympics people cheat, various other sports even fucking cricket people cheat. you little children fail to understand the type of world we live in, it's cut throat take no prisoners. people will do ANYTHING and I mean ANYTHING when it comes to money or fame, the quicker you realize this the better. If you think this shit is all made up even with PROOF from VAC and numerous players and sites all saying there's more cheaters....then that means there's probably more cheaters unless fyx0, smn and whoever else has confessed all just thought "yeah fuck it lets make up fake hacks and bullshit stories for fun..." people on here are truly naive.

That´s a logical fallacy. Its an argument from ignorance; just because 30 top pros could be cheaters doesn't mean it have to be true or could be used as evidence for the truth. IMO no pros cheat until 100% proof ex VAC ban U can ofc have your opinion but that doesn't justifies a witch hunt on people...

Onlinesports - 2 (onlineJ and may be LEGIJA) PKD - 3 (nex, strux1, stavros) LC - 2 (rain, polly) myXMG - 2/3 CPHW - 2/3 still it is not near 30. I am tired. Don't what to count more. Not to stir up any drama or accusing Karrigan for cheating, but he did cheat for around 10 years ago or something like that. Though he never got caught. But just to inform that once upon a time he had the mentality to cheat. :P NO idea if he does it now, i highly doubt it. But not many can be trusted nowadays. Some people have the mentality and guts to cheat to become "the best" and doesn't care what it takes, others play clean and have dignity about themseleves and the game.

He is without a doubt a very talented CS-player, and always has been. But he did cheat back when he was a kid, with blatant wallhack, also in minor clans :D But he started getting into good teams in 1.6 and I don't think he cheated there, because he played really well on LAN now and then.

this is fkin dumb - LDLC 1 VP 0 Dignitas 0 NiP 1 so the best teams in the world arent cheating but the lower ones are? recently we got to know how "easy" it is to cheat on lan so tell me why these lower teams dont win anything on lan? tbh i think there are more cheaters in the real good teams like NiP/LDLC/fnatic/HR and so on than there are in the lower ones and idk if chrisJ cheats but if he would i dont understand why he would perform online that much better if you can cheat that easy on a lan with a proper hack

DIGNITAS 0 or may be 1 - cajunB they hardly reach at semis and i am not danish lover read properly, there is a danish coder so I have put 5 players from danish including CPHWand myXMG NiP - GTR/FOREST/XIZT never , friberg don't know, maikelele I count him VP - pasha/neo/taz never, snax - can't count him because of his smart play cheat gives aim but smartness can't come with cheat... He has played lots of smart plays means lurking rounds like gtr does, byali - I don't think so LDLC - kio counted, NBK,SHOX,SMITHZZZ -NO, Happy - may be but I didn't count it... There isn't like fanboy but these are my thoughts

did u read the whole thing? In my opinion, ko1n is the best Cheat-coder out there. If VALVe would offer ko1n 100.000 EUR and, without anyone knowing it, helping VALVe to improve their Anti-Cheat then there would be pretty high chances. Ko1n is the one who has access to every cheat, to supex0, the Danish Cheat-Coder and the others, he could bust them all. Then all the players would be banned without a doubt. His hack is only used by a very few amount of people, only very good friends of him have access to his hack, he is doing it just for fun without selling his hacks.

stating that there is no way to tell unless you have the actual DLL files, then proceeding to give a baseless number. Everybody reading this will ofcourse go full mental 'Gaaiiss did yu hear that over 30 pplz are hakin on the pro scene?!!'. He has some inside information, but not nearly enough to accurately tell how many people are actively hacking in the pro scene. sowing more commotion for popularity's sake. It feels like HLTV is just releasing these unfounded articles to sow more commotion, which in turn funnels more traffic towards the site.

These new gen "pro's" all suck and make NiP look bad, while NiP is probably the best team without all these hackers around lol. Just like I told my friends a year ago. I bet even HeatoN knows who cheats but holds it for himself because he has a good heart and doesn't want to ruin any reputation he has by speculating even though he is 100% sure, oldskoolers just know.

stating that there is no way to tell unless you have the actual DLL files, then proceeding to give a baseless number. It feels like HLTV is just releasing these unfounded articles to sow more commotion, which in turn funnels more traffic towards the site.

you can store the cheats in you keyboard and mouse. This would mean that pros wont be allowed to use their gears.

then again, even if we employ that for next majors, there is no credibility in the online scene. and not all offline events can afford to arrange gears for players.

There was never credibility in the online scene. It didn't hurt cs so much in the past. The problem is that there is no credibility on the most important LANs there are; the majors.

What, werent the DH qualifiers online ? With online tournaments like FM, ESEA etc. offering such a huge sum, who wouldnt risk cheating on them. You are in DEnial, the article confirms there is no hope for the CS scene until valve steps up. The only thing to do is to induce fear among the pros by essentially banning them whereupon all their previous winnnings should be confiscated. You wont stop the cheat devs coding but you stop the pros using since one dtection can ruin them.

Ofcourse Major qualifiers should be on LAN. Where the fuck am I in Denial ? Are you even reading what I say? I say valve should stepin and shouldnt allow ANY USB DEVICE brought by the player. There should be no internet acces from the players computer. FM has LAN finals I'm pretty sure, same goes for ESEA. Ofcourse they should apply the same security there, but VALVe, like you say, has to set the trend.

Lol but the LAN finals are redundant if only the cheaters can qualify since it is online. Place all your security on Lan, you cant stop them cheating online and since all qualifiers for tourneys (except for majors in future) are online, it is an ALL CHEATER LAN FINALS. Riddle me this, is it possible to confiscate winnings if you are vac banned in the future. Can they apply any clause like this.

I thought there were going to be news regarding the current matters? This dude doesn't have a clue about the current pro scene, his word is not worth much more than anybody else's. Should have just announced it as "some insight into cheating in general", this has nothing to do with the current issues and it doesn't tell us anything we didn't know about the current situation. Just throwing a 30 out there? K den.

I'm not saying there are any evidence. The only hard evidence could be data from his DLL files, and it's not like anyone of us are going to get our hands on that stuff. But I'm pretty sure most of us think he cheats without having reviewed his DLL files, so I don't really care. I don't need fool proof evidence to spot a cheater.

if you have played cs for a long time, the possibility of flicking your mouse and hitting the keyboard making your mouse click fire happens so many fucking times. And under pressure in a 1v1 I am sure that is possible at that point in time, so yes there is an explanation for everything in life, simple kids see the simple answer.

I'm well aware of that possibility. I've looked at the scene of flusha on dust2, as he pulled and shot once through 2 boxes. There he had for example an error in his settings which is called 'Autowall', which certainly looks completely like a trigger. Of course, there are always several factors coming together that he has heard something or a call from his mates came, but he would never shoot in this way that he is directly on the model through the box and then shoots, which is more or less completely impossible. However, there is also the possibility that it was super lucky and it's just the way it happened. Cheater 1 Flusha 0

Good read, although I think people were hoping for some more explicit info. It becomes more and more apparent that valve is the big problem here, not taking cheating seriously for the past years, and now they don't even bother to make any public statements with regard to this scandal.

You have referred earlier to poor settings in the hack. Can you see something like this easier and therefore have your thoughts, about what could be in used in the game? This is a lot easier in any case, as I have a long experience. GeT_BaNnEd

It's absolutely fuckin obvious that ko1n was the one giving this interview. Nobody in their right minds would say something like this: "In my opinion, ko1n is the best Cheat-coder out there. His hack is only used by a very few amount of people, only very good friends of him have access to his hack, he is doing it just for fun without selling his hacks." Either this guy is gonna marry ko1n soon, or it's ko1n himself, and he is doing this interview hoping that Valve will approach him and give him free moneys. What a prick.

What's the problem. Pay ko1n 100k then commence operation VACation. People can bet in steam for who gets banned and volvo takes cut from the bets. Then volvo makes millions.

i cant believe , they cant even control lan event ? is it hard to lock pc ports(usb etc) and prevent players for using flash drives and download from internet . for example 1 week before event players send admins their own config files(cfg , driver version , or other apps like razer synapse and....) and not letting them to download stuff manually while they are behind those computers this is unbelievable imo , how they dare to cheat on lan?

True, you can't compare Riot and Valve. If something is wrong with League of Legends, someone played with his friend acc on a tournament/qualification or any another 'little' problem, riot finding those dogs and banning them.

interesting to see how DHW approach the issue. Phones in a black bag kept in a locker during play. Random unlisted or new accounts that have been created by valve specifically for tournaments. Maybe, like racing for example, have a standardized setup and if there's any differences between accounts, aside from cfg, you can detect it....

I'm still convinced that kioshima is cheating. It's too fucking convenient that his twitter gets hacked exactly a few hours after the banwave. Then he decides to move all of his inventory to another account, which makes absolutely no sense as there is no reason why it would be any safer. If his twitter was indeed hacked, the only thing he'd have to do is change both email and steam account password, nothing else.

With this info, I'm thinking the only team neutral fans could support is NiP, if they had fifflaren and not Maikelele. those 5 were together for the longest time. All other teams have gone through so many player changes that it's highly possible a "new" recruit is a KQLY. If even 10% of all pros cheat, it means fifflaren is actually still a player worthy of NIP. Could we actually map the decline of Fifflaren's performances with the influx of high-level cheats being used in top level csgo? If it shows some resemblance, then it would be worth it to see which players came into prominence / better performances during the same period (as fiff's decline). We could use f0rest's and GTRs performances too since these fellas have the longest cs history among top pros. But then again, f0rest csgo is not as dominating as f0rest 1.6.

100% True, it's disgusting I can't even.. "VALVe could bust this cheats immediately within one day. For VALVe itself it would be even more profitable because the players then would have to create new accounts." "But when a player is found guilty, you'd have to wait and not directly bust him, then you'd have a chance for a really big busting wave. However this only works for that timeframe, because only a few days later there will be a fix and the hack is undetected again." read this :'(

Soooo that DLL generation of cheats was undetected for 5 years?!? And the people behind Ogranner and x22 make already over 50k per month ONLY with their "cheap" cheats? Then there's also the private hacks of which most are still 100% save and that cost a lot more...no wonder the cheating scene is so strong, these people make a shitload of money O.O 30 international known players use private hacks... Some share the prize money with their cheat developers... RIP CS

So that why i gave up to play csgo anymore. Too many cheaters even pro-gamers. Value did nothing on their anti-cheat since smn has been caught.

In the meantime there are even mobile apps who can change your settings on offline-events within seconds. - who like to play with his phone? Valve must read the DLL files from top100 teams after every game

so it's as i said before... orgs need to provide their players with it's OWN hardware.. then at the start of a LAN tournament, they need to scan the dll files. it covers their own backs aswell as the players... and will clean up the game.

Valve should finally do their god damn job. It's in the first place the gamed-developer's duty to keep the game cheat-free. It's a fucking joke that CS is cheat infested since 14 years and nothing has ever changed, it's just getting worse every year. Valve has some of the best programmers in this field, they can do stuff with the game all the third party AC developers can't do and still they don't do shit. Simply because it has never been high up on their agenda. Why would they? As long as people keep playing the game and spending their money on it, there is no economical interest for Valve.

The way flusha has reacted also makes me think he is a cheater. I remember my 49 kill streak in a BF3 match, and some on the server was saying I was cheating. I was so god damn proud and couldn't stop smiling. Every time some calls me a cheater I just get this huge smile on my face, because it's 15 years of Quakeworld paying off.

Im not sure how to trust this guy, but if hes right we have a big problem ahead of us, VALVE would have to deny pro players from bringing their mobile phones, or any other equipment to the events, the players would need to take off their clothes and get searched by security guards like when i go to the football stadium... this looks horrible, we, as the community have to build up some enormous pressure on the cheating players, that they stop cheating by themselves, but if you look at the pricemoney i dont think this will go on...

Sad read, but not surprising. I don't think CS:GO will ever get rid of ALL the cheaters, but if VALVe could pay the most advanced, up-to-date cheat coder to work with them on VAC, and ban a bunch of top players permanently from all future events. I truly believe that whoever is left in the pro scene isn't dumb/ballsy enough to sit in front of a huge crowd and cheat their way to hundreds of thousands of dollars, the way flusha has.

I'm on -81 karma for publicly exposing jbree and many more top players who cheat on CS:GO, whether it is LAN or not. So, your job will be hard, since you have the most retarded admins on the planet. Having said that, here we go, There is a german coder named supex0. You can find him on highminded.us. (I'm not talking about their public shit, this guy works alone and so does his brother. The reason I have exposed his customers elsewhere before, as well as his paypal info, is because it's personal). Moving on, Now, this guy is probably the most talented coder for cheats in Source and CS:GO. We had mutual friends and I have played with them, known about their private hack, having seen it in action. Unfortunately, the nature of this hack is almost impossible to trace. I'll come back to that later. First, a bit of info about the cheaters. Locher, sm999n, schniii, Slyder, Blade are all using the same hack. It is used mostly by people that they know, since I tried to buy it once and since then they are cautious. Just to show you how ridiculous this game is, sf from LDLC also has been using it since he was in eXtensive, even before LDLC. And yes, it's lannable. Little message i had to dig-out from my inbox from last year on ESEA. Turns out there is some truth in it....

Doesn't matter, still not one single piece of evidence. These guys live off of their site and money from ads etc. Of course the source is anonymous. Of course this happens just as every cs:go player out there is paranoid and hungry for more VACactions. I am very surprised HLTV publicized an article without any credibility, an article that could ruin an entire scene and the credibility of DH.

Their source, some ANONYMOUS dude pulling numbers and stuff out of his fucking ass. What a dumb way to ruin the fucking scene, and ruin Dreamhack for everyone. You literally just spread so much paranoia based on absolutely nothing. This is the least credible interview I've read in my entire life. You can't get more unprofessional than this.

The hacks integrated in the mouses are usually a small army of ants who work together collectively. Valve hasn't found a way to stop them electronically yet. Soon there will be rumors about JW inserting microchip aimbot in his brain. Soon after that his eyes will have organic wall hack similar to that of an x-ray but only readable in counter-strike and impossible for the "naked eye" to spot in demos.

How DHW can be hack free: -Disable all USB ports from the computers, players have to hand their configs for tournament employees to be installed beforehand. -Accounts will not be granted access to the workshop and the computers can't get acces to internet only to the servers that the matches will be played on. Problem solved.

What is the matter anyway? Make LAN qualifiers, where is no Internet Access for the players on those computers, ask for brand new accounts from Valve where the player just have to change his/her name and no external drive allowed to plug-in, otherwise DQ.

Easy counter to all this. Fresh steam accounts for every game. No internet access on game PC's. No USB sticks. New peripherals for each player for each tournament. It's a big investment each tournament, however it has to be done. This may result in smaller prize pools or simply larger running costs, but a clean tournament is better than an unfair one. I'd like to think that Valve and sponsors would be willing to put forward peripherals for each event.

If they just won't let anyone of a LAN online anymore except for the spectators they can't use the steam cloud thing anymore. If needed let the organisation make fresh steam accounts (they only need 10) and let all players play on those accounts (oh the sponsors will be so happy). ABSOLUTELY FORBID THE USE OF WORKSHOP! Just make a few trusted warm up maps available and they have to deal with it. As for all the peripherals make the sponsors send a brand new device to the organisation itself, this way it rules out installing cheats through drivers impossible too. Or let the organisation buy all peripherals themself. These measurments will hit the sponsors hard and probably crank down the salary of the pro players too, but hey they brought this on themselfs.

How about the scare factor. Anyone think maybe pros will think twice now about buying a hack. With all of the supex0 info being leaked and other coders trying to take down supex0. It could be possible that pros will take this into account before purchasing their next hack. With the statements made by shahzam and Lpkane, maybe other pros know that vac and esea know more. They bought the cheat thinking everyone would keep their mouth shut and vac or esea would not be able to catch up. This DH might be somewhat cheat free just cause there is a possibility that they may get exposed. Also I do believe if in the contracts for these professionals, they include a line about possible legal action if caught cheating/banned. We could eliminate a lot more chances of seeing hackers in the pro scene. In the end these are young players that have dedicated most of their life to this game. Losing their gaming career may cause for them to revamp their entire life. Being mid 20s, some without even starting college, they would think twice before fucking it all up. "Oh shit that could have been me"

it's at least nice to hear this guy imply that the kind of precautions used at, oh, i dunno, 1.6 lans over 10 years ago (no internet on game pcs, steam netcafe accounts, before the existence of onboard memory in peripherals, before sophisticated smartphones, freshly ghosted pcs) would be sufficient to prevent these type of private hacks. like the actual reason those precautions were taken all those years ago was to prevent cheating and ensure a level playing field. is it too much to ask for something similar at events like dreamhack today? shit back when dreamhack was byoc only noone gave a shit about it really because it wasn't a level playing field with the same kind of consistency between devices that was ensured at cpl.

LAdies, Ladies, calm the fuck down. HLTV, through writer MIRAA, just pointed out to the 99damage interview. If the interview is shit, not credible or whatnot, it's 99damage.de fault, not HLTV. Think before you write please. jees'o'wiz.

Surprised at the lack of precautions taken to prevent people from cheating on LAN. If there is even the slightest chance that something could go awry, you take precautions.

Keep posting about all these hackers to the general public is just plain stupid in my opinion, more people will be able to know how this works and where they can get it. Edit: I could just be paranoid, but I bet the sales on private hacks increased recently rather than decreasing.

Awesome article. I'm sure Valve knows their options and hopefully takes appropriate action.

actually there are only FIVE more cheaters, no one from NA, they are all from europe. flusha and olofm are 2 of them, 3 more need to be found... i'm not sure, if JW is one of them, i think 2 cheaters with wallhack is enough for fnatic to gain enough information for an advantage to make them winning... i believe this: vaccen.in/leaks.html
