I hope they let semmler and another caster who has English mother tongue casting the games would be perfect. The way semmler is picking the right words at the right times is just perfect!

MVP of a tournament is something that awards performance, not fan base. A vote from the community isn't a good idea for this. Stats wise, Happy played better than f0rest, with a better K/D, and a better rating over the all tournament.

In order to choose the MVP? Sure it is, because the rest is just too biased.

If stats were everything, they wouldn't ask for votes. They'd just give it to the one with best K/D

They asked for votes so that viewers can play a part in the decision, that's all. It's obvious that a player like Neo or f0rest with a huge fan base will always be elected MVP as long as he reaches the final. It's completely unfair to call for a vote from the viewers in order to elect an MVP. If you're gonna ask for a vote, pro players should vote, it's not accurate enough either, but it's a lot better.

I'm a huge f0rest fan, but I completely agree. Maybe they could have two awards, the community-award and another award given out by experts/pros /KD or something.

No, you have to judge the stats in context. Sure Happy had better K/D, but f0rest had almost the same KPR and he had many high-impact kills. Like in this video, single-handedly winning the round. Acing T side pistol round against HR. Eco mowdowns don't count for shit compared to a single round-winning kill, because the eco mowdown would be handled fine by your teammates and the round would be won anyway, while sometimes just one or two kills in a round make the crucial difference. For the record, I agree that Happy was the MVP of this tournament, but with f0rest as a close second. But that's considering the stats in context. Out of context stats are only tentative. Fifflaren going negative every single tournament is indicative of poor performance. 9-44 is inexcusable. But sometimes the guy who goes 19-21 has a bigger impact on the game than the one who drops a thirty bomb largely due to racking up cheap kills on anti-ecos.

Stats in context are still stats. Of course it's better if you have context, but my only point was that a vote from the community isn't an accurate way to choose an MVP, and apart from stats, there's not real unbiased way to look for the MVP of an event.

I agree with you that a community vote is a popularity context, not a good judge of who was the real MVP. However the old adage about lies, damned lies and statistics still holds. Stats are not unbiased unless considered in context. And it's almost impossible to consider stats in context without introducing bias. Thus, making an "unbiased" evaluation is almost impossible. One must simply attempt to be as unbiased as possible. If you really want to make a thorough evaluation of who was the most valuable player, you have to go through the demos of each of the probable candidates and evaluate each and every action, every frag, and consider how much each kill or death impacted the result of the game. But of course no one's going to make that effort, that's probably at least 10 hours of work. Much easier to simply point to one or two statistical numbers and call it a day. So I agree with you about the community vote, but I can't agree that statistics are unbiased. Statistics require interpretation, and interpretation almost always introduces some measure of bias. They are at best a rough guideline.

The bias in stats properly interpreted is not that big. Of course any information, once it's handled by a human, becomes biased to some degree, but the job of an analyst is to prevent the bias from growing as stats are processed, while extracting meaning out of them, and I believe it can be achieved pretty well as long as the analyst is serious enough in his task.

And my point was exactly that. Stats must be interpreted to be anything but a rough guideline, and properly interpreting them in context is hard work.

most people think forest deserves it more because hes got a massive fanbase and of course they will say that :) If you look at happy, he has to igl, mad frag, awp. He truly deserved it this event. You rarely see players so complete on the top level of cs. Shame that the huge fan base of nip fluctuated the votes severely.
