IeSF World Ch'ship 7 with CS:GO

The International e-Sports Federation (IeSF) has announced that CS:GO will be played at the upcoming World Championship.

The first details about the 7th E-Sports World Championship, to be held in the Polish city of Łódź later this year, have just been announced by IeSF, with CS:GO and Dota 2 being the first two games to be selected by the 43 national federations that comprise the organisation.

This is the first time in the history of IeSF that CS is picked for a World Championship. According to the South Korea-based organisation, CS:GO was selected "with recommendation of most national federations."

Details about the World Championship are still scarce, but it is believed that there will be national qualifiers taking place all over the world to determine the teams that will attend the main event.

While participation in this event is "open to all people regardless of gender, age or disabilities", according to IeSF, international rosters are not allowed in the tournaments, which means that teams like Titan, HellRaisers, Na`Vi or Cloud9 are not eligible to compete.

Did you be there you know? AT LEAST 20% were there for CS for sure because it Spodek Arena was divided like : 20%:cs, 40% dota, 40% sc and cs area was overcrowded. Also everyone who is in dota or sc in poland know about Neo and Taz so fans were there maybe not for some lgb vs. fnatic bullshit but for sure 90% + was there for neo and taz vs. forest and gtr final! Neo and Taz were in major nationals TVs so they are popular.

I don't know why it's taking so long for volvo to announce majors now after last year. The announcement about ESL Cologne and DHW 2014 respectively was less than two months before the actual events began. The announcement for EMS Katowice was like 2 weeks after DHW '13 ended, so wtf happened?

It means that teams consisting of more than one nationality (NaVi has 4 ukrainians and 1 from Slovakia, I think. Can't remember, but they're not all ukrainians at least). Same goes for Titan who has 3 french players, 1 belgian and 1 swizz.

they can make teams for that like for ESEC so: NAVI: -guardian +s1mple -seized +markeloff TITAN: -ex6 +gmx (same level as ex6) -maniac +fxyo (much better than maniac) TEAM CANADA: -steel -azk -shroud -semphis -fns TEAM USA: -shazam -moe -tarik -dazed -swag those teams d be better than their regular teams

For Titan: Kick out their IGL to get a random for Epsi who has always been pretty meh during LANs. Change up the whole team playstyle when adding a 2nd player who can literally only AWP and that way possibly messing up Kenny's style. N1 logic there bro.

ie-sf.com/en/about/nations.php Are country not on the list able to attend or is it restricted to affiliated countries only? France and USA are not which is a bit scary, and no-athletes attended from these coutries last editions. So that'd mean 1swe team, 1dk, 1pl from top10 would be able to attend? "open to all people regardless of gender, age or disabilities" Does it mean there can be 2+ teams from the same country or is it limited to 1team/country like last years edition? (think so from what I found)

They hosted LoL & DOTA2 tournaments without USA and big EU countries, still most of asian countries were included. And at least 80% of teams who attended last events were a former team and not a national mixed team. And like 20% of affiliated countries attended so it looks like people has to pay travel fees from their own, what the majority won't.

the tournament is a nation vs nation kind of thing. Its meant to be the "world cup of eSports" and therefore the teams are not professional gaming teams such as Na'Vi or Cloud9 but national teams such as Sweden or Japan. That's why teams like Na'Vi that are composed of players of multiple nationalities can't compete as a team - BUT they CAN compete if they form a special national team for their country - which is a thing I'd personally love to see in the upcoming IeSF.

IeSF is just a joke organization, nobody cares about it, also the rules regarding nationality are just so stupid, shouldn't e-sports be freed from stuff like this?

Take this tournament as the world cup. And every other one the Champions league. How can you people be so stupid. It is a good thing that we have national tournaments. Back in the days WCG was a thing and there was 1 team in those times that wasn't made of players from the same country. Hell SK had a 6man roster just for that event alone when element was playing with them.. Its a good thing this makes teams actually look for talent in their own country then outside.

I agree that's a good thing, but who is going to pay the travel fees if they are not all 5 from a single team which has an org?

IeSF is helping with travelling and accomodation, but I still have no info regarding that specific tournaments (in ALL previous IeSF events - the teams got supported for travelling and accomodation)

But since this tournament is meant for normal teams and not national teams, the rule about not allowing international teams, or even one player of another nationality, it is stupid and backwards.

This tournament is meant for national teams, not professional gaming teams.

Well, when I look at past tournaments of IeSF it's not really clear if those teams were national or just a team with all members from a certain nation, some were like Team China and Team S. Korea, some weren't. Also why would you need a regional qualification if it's meant for national teams?

1. those are always national teams selected by the member nations affiliated with IeSF. If a team is both made from 5 players from the same nation AND is a already-establish gaming team (ie. CW etc.) they might be referred to with their original name (just like NEWBEE was referred to as NEWBEE and not TEAM CHINA last year in DOTA). edit: that meant to say that over the years IeSF let the teams choose their name (either team *nation* or some other name). However in certain instances they will always be referred to as "team *nation*". If I'm not clear enough let me know XD. 2. regional qualification is used when there are too much teams (ie. if they have space for 8 teams, and there are 20 nations from EU and 10 from Asia [just an example] they might do the regionals so only qualified teams will travel to the main event). I don't expect regionals to be held this year, but I can't know for sure, for the time being.

Ah thanks for clarification about the teams, the thing I hated about national teams was that you had a limit of players from a certain team, if that no longer applies I think we can truly have the best players from each country :)

I think best solution would be for teams to chose which country they represent. The only thing i would add that they can't represent let say germany if they have no german players for a example.

#94 The way usually nationals work is there are quals for each country and teams compete there and winner gets all expenses paid by the organiser and runner up depending on which country it is gets a slot if they can pay the expenses them selfs. Usually there was 1 or 2 country's in the world to get more then 1 slot (sweden, france(just this one time),denmark if memory serves me right) just because those had many decent quality teams back in the day. I am not sure how this event will work it self out but if its anything like WCG there should be qualification tournament in each country that is chosen by IeSF with what i wrote above. Also theres what 5teams all across the board with diffrent nationality members. The organisation that represents the majority of the nationality can make them a month contract for that event alone and just go as team. For example Na'Vi can pick x2 ukranians and go as Na'Vi i do not see the problem there it is not ideal but if they want ot particapate thats what they have to do, if they don't well its entirely their decision. It is very black and white it is a World cup type of event using football analogy where only people with citizenship of the appointed country can play.

Good thing LoL isn't on the list of games to be played because pretty much all their teams are multi-national, don't know about dota.
