dignitas beat fnatic for bronze at MLG

dignitas take the third place and $7,500 by beating fnatic 2-0 (16-7 de_nuke, 19-17 de_mirage), who have to settle for fourth and $5,000.

fnatic's least played map throughout 2014, de_nuke, was dignitas' choice as the first map of the third-place decider, which is why they also started against the odds as Terrorists.

fnatic's pistol round got them to 3-0 before dignitas ran their signature upper strategy to get their first round on the board. Nicolai "device" Reedtz was the star in the following two gunrounds, as despite fnatic's solid defence, he was able to win a one-on-three and a one-on-two for a 3-4 scoreline.

dignitas kept breaking fnatic's economy over and over again after Jesper "JW" Wecksell's agression in hut, and with a couple of upper bombsite strategies, dignitas found themselves up 9-4. fnatic decided to change things up with a three-man push from hut and ramp, which eventually gave them two rounds in a row before swapping sides.

KRiMZ's good showing wasn't nearly enough for fnatic on Nuke

A full-armor ramp rush to lower looked like another pistol round win for fnatic, but Peter "dupreeh" Rasmussen's double turned it around for 12-6 after two ecos. Freddy "KRIMZ" Johansson then got a round-changing double in vents after a four-on-four in the first gunround, but an upper lockdown by dignitas broke the Swedes yet again.

Only a ramp push by fnatic was holding the Danish lineup back from winning the first map 16-7 thanks to René "cajunb" Borg-Andreas "Xyp9x" Højsleth teamplay in the last solid buy by fnatic.

cajunb opened de_mirage up with a pistol triple at the B bombsite, but fnatic's famous second-round B rush with Tec-9s and Desert Eagles paid off once again to even it out at 1-1.

Fnatic topped it off with a gunround on A, as well as three anti-ecos in total, for 5-1 before dignitas took a stand and took five in a row thanks to brilliant play from dupreeh, who picked up ten kills in total during those.

The Swedes changed things up after a couple of A bombsite strategies and decided to go B instead, which worked out well for them, but despite JW's double entry in the following round, dupreeh stepped in again with a double from fnatic's flank.

dupreeh's Mirage performance was godlike

dignitas finished the half with a 9-6 lead which was soon lowered to one round only following fnatic's one-on-one win in the second pistol round. dupreeh was once again the star of dignitas' anti-eco round, where they ran into a stack on B, but he was able to retrieve with the bomb and win a one-on-three for 12-8.

fnatic then started to mount a comeback into the match due to a few lockdowns on the A bombsite, JW's triple and a won two-on-two, all at the A bombsite, for an eventual 14-12 scoreline in their favour.

fnatic got to match point at 15-13 when the two teams split two rounds, but despite dignitas having to forcebuy, another of cajunb's entries helped them get back to force the overtime.

fnatic was able to take two out of three on the first half as Counter-Terrorists, but the device-Xyp9x duo won dignitas two rounds of the second one at B, while Finn "karrigan" Andersen's autosniper finished off the job at the A bombsite for 19-17, 2-0.

RIP Flusha. Time to bring in new blood in one of the spots? More than anything else they need Devilwalk or someone else to support them mentally though. A team builder! GL, I guess. Olofm and Krimz <3 New IGL and new lurker = top 1 again.

The primary definition for a #1 team is to never have a bad tournament. If you win 10 straight in a row and then lose your #1 spot is lost. Solid logic

They placed 4th in this tournament, means nothing to their overall "ranking" where they should be still the team to beat slightly ahead of LDLC even if LDLC wins this event over NiP. VP is the next in line slightly ahead of NiP and a refreshed dignitas/TSM.

it gets tiresome after a while when you've had the same coach. their words of encouragement start meaning less and less over time and they lose their impact on the players. that's why they need some fresh blood either in a player or in the crew around the players!

Not really. This time it was different. They were behind 5-0 or 7-0 before they started playing in all the maps in this semi. That's not how they usually do.

You may be right that start hasn't been the same the other times, but the mentality. They don't hold spots they usually do (meaning smokes and angles, not the actual spots), their timing is way off and device stops fragging.

Didn't see the semi final, but I will say that cache being randomly selected as map 3 was really unlucky. All other topteams are better than dig on cache - if it had been mirage or cbble it might have looked differently (just see how much they've improved on mirage here vs fnatic). .. it's no excuse, just saying that they way they've played throughout this tournament looks very promising for the future.

I feel like Flusha and JW weren't playing as well as they used to this tournament. JW usually manages to get crazy entries on a lot of rounds. You didn't really see much of him at all. I hope they can patch up their problems until next time. Dignitas played excellently as well.

Bad performances from olofmeister (this game) and flusha (vs NiP). Fnatic ain't the perfectly consistent team no more. Massive respect to pronax and krimz, amazingly consistent and great plays throughout the tournament. JW wasn't the usual beast but still performed at a very decent level. Shame on olof, imo. They'll be back, though.

Man, great match from dignitas. They need to get over that semifinal ghost and win a tournament so they can get some confidence going. The way they played todays game was just awesome and well deserved.

Seems like his cheats don't work that well on MLG :) Best organised LAN ever! They have the biggest experience with these things like controlling the player's headsets, mice & keyboard firmware, Flusha was scared and didn't use them. <3 MLG, RIP Flusha. C'mon VAC, it only shows that you need to recruit the private coder to upgrade your AC or you will always be rediculised by them.

The 3 fnatic stars (jw, flusha and olof) completely failed. Krimz carried super hard but it still wasn't hard enough. :\
