ex-iBP banned from Valve majors

Valve have released a rare public statement forbidding numerous players from the North American betting scandal from participating in Valve sponsored events.

As previously reported, numerous players from the ex-iBP lineup were implicated in a betting scandal last August.

Valve have now come forward and banned many known players from this lineup and a few others from any Valve-sponsored events.

The story was first broken by Daily Dot, but it was only after a lengthy investigation by Valve that they were able to confirm that numerous accounts were involved in a betting ring, netting perhaps upwards of $10,000 of in-game items on this match.

The full list of those implicated in the match fixing scandal and subsequently banned by Valve is as follows:

Valve ended their public statement with a strong sermon for any future transgressors:

Professional players, their managers, and teams’ organization staff, should under no circumstances gamble on CS:GO matches, associate with high volume CS:GO gamblers, or deliver information to others that might influence their CS:GO bets.

First of all, this 80% is coming straight out of your ass. Second, let's suppose it's 80%, what makes you sure that KQLY and Sf aren't in the 20%? Third, with a cheat correctly configured and not blatant, it's pretty hard to get caught, even by pros. And finally, it's not because people don't know for sure if someone is cheating that they don't have suspicions. SmithzZ said that he had suspicions about KQLY after ESWC, and I'm sure he wasn't the only one, but you can't do shit with only suspicions. Maybe their teammates had suspicions (which are not enough), maybe they didn't, but either way, no proof can be brought concerning their involvement in helping a cheater.

The valve injection of cash in recent times has helped bolster the scene's #s ~ via skins. But all these tournaments were around before and the community did not survive because of valve. Honestly surprised swag and AZK were involved and convicted as well. Important to note Skadoodle wasn't. Sad to see but at least Valve is making the details clear and doing their part. They played their match but since CSGOlounge didn't know that the match was already played and will be recasted off a demo so it wouldn't get DDoSed, VP guys bet because the betting was still open and they already knew the outcome of that match, but that isn't actually their fault whereas ex-iBP literally threw it intentionally to earn skins.

It actually wasn't the same. They played the match not live because of DDOS issues, and the match was later streamed/casted after they had already lost. CSGL was not aware of the this fact and had the bets open until the start of the streamed version - giving time for VP players to bet against themselves. Still dirty in my opinion, but they didn't throw the match on purpose.

Not hard for valve to check ip history on the accounts in question and compare those to the ips used to log into the players actual accounts. i.e. they all logged into at least one account that had winning traded to it from the smurf accounts that cud used. Skadoodle isnt implicated because they obviously found no trace between his ip(s) and those used on the accounts. Valve flex.

VP didn't throw, it was a completely different situation. They played against LDLC, lost the match, that match had no streams or scores anywhere. After the match they noticed the same match was still up for betting, so they bet on LDLC. What they did was stealing, but still IMO not as bad as throwing. I'm sure before all of the betting scandals when an opportunity like that jumps at you, many people would have done the same thing. Though that doesn't make it right.

Would be great if valve could become the governing body for CS:GO esports so player's actions would have repercussions. Org's could also get involved and a clause to their contracts stating that anyone who gets vac'ed would pay a fine since it damages the brand. not sure if trolling or not, but still: Do you understand that noone has a right to attend valve sponsored events. It's private business. Valve can do whatever they want with their money. Even if valve said that team X can't attend because we don't like them, then it would be 100% OK, there would be nothing "illegal" of it, so no possible claims or anything.

Well that's how private affairs work in every normal country. You are free to choose who you deal with, who you do business with and if at all etc. Only thing that is illegal is discrimination that is forbidden by law, for example race discrimination : "you can't attend, because you are black" - an example.

As a long time fan of the American counter-strike scene I am deeply dissappointed today. I started playing cs back in the beta days and really got into it when the competitive scene started to get big in the 1.5 days. I followed through many tournaments favorites being CPL events held in America. Eventually i stopped following as the source 1.6 split came along and divided the community. Over the last year or so I've become revitalized with the growth of cs go. The enjoyment I found with the glory days of 1.6 seem to be coming back with one key factor missing, the lack of an American powerhouse. A couple months ago I had never been more exciting to see an American team compete when Hiko decided to join up with the ex-iBP squad. I thought this move would finally bring American cs back into the picture. Then this scandal happens and what a blow it is to the NA scene. As much as a I love the other American teams there is just no one that can compete on the European level now that ex-iBP is gone. As a huge American cs fan we've taken an enormous step back. I guess what I hope for is a reduced ban to players like swag and AZK who seem to be culprits in a much more elaborate scheme. I've followed swag for awhile now as he has become my favorite cs player with his pure raw talent. He doesn't stream often but when he does he seems to do it for the love of the game rather than the publicity that other players do it for. He doesn't do the big giveaways or read every donation that comes forth he just plays cs and lets us all enjoy his talents. I hope fellow NA cs fanboys will endorse what I'm saying rather than flame it down for the sake of the NA cs scene. I want to see America rise and become competitive amongst the international cs competitive community again!

I still watch videos of eG team of CS 1.6 on youtube, Damn, they played for their country, defeating top teams like fnatic, Sk gaming, Na'vi, mTw etc. I still have faith in players like n0thing, Valve did the right thing. I don't think now any team will involve in match fixing, Please make CS GO like CS 1.6, Teams playing to win the tournaments, and fans cheering them up. These skins are basically destroying those old glory days.
