Cloud9 weigh up Europe move

Cloud9 member Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert has revealed that his team is considering the possibility of moving to Europe.

Since signing for Cloud9, in August, the former compLexity team's results have been mixed, with a top-eight finish at ESL One Cologne being followed by a group exit at DreamHack Winter.

The North American team managed to qualify for ESL One Katowice after beating INSHOCK and mousesports at the offline qualifier, but their chances of progression into the knockout rounds of the upcoming major look thin after being paired with Virtus.pro and Team SoloMid in the group stage.

Cloud9 could move to Europe soon

Prior to DreamHack Winter, Cloud9 underwent an intensive three-week bootcamp in Stockholm to cut out their mistakes from ESWC and FACEIT, but the team could soon take their training regime to a whole new level as a permanent move to Europe is currently under consideration.

"We have some pretty cool news, we might be moving to Europe this year," Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert said during the All Work All Play podcast.

"In the next couple of months we will decide."

Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert went on to say that the city of Berlin is a strong possibility for his team to move to, which would allow them to take part in the biggest European leagues and to practice constantly against the top sides in the continent.

HLTV User's posts since forever. "NA Teams get rolled because they can't practice with Euro teams and learn euro style of play." An NA team might move to Europe to do just that and the response? This will never work, they will get rolled by the big Euro teams.. Holy freaking God. I hate most of you. Edit: Good luck in Europe fellas, this can only make you >.

they accuse americans of being too patriotic or proud people.. granted americans do get overboard... but, the fact is, they themselves are some of the most snobbish and extreme ethnocentric people on the internet.. and the most amazing part is, they show 'patriotism' for their continent, Europe, for the most part whereas americans are just proud of their nation.. internet hypocrisy is truly amazing

Actually i would have thought they'd pick Sweden or Finland as a destination. Not sure what would be easier for them with visas though, i doubt "playing counterstrike" will be recognised as a legit job :(

muricano, u know nothing. dont compare ur tier5 muricano shit teams to european competition. losing random league matches against some scrubs that never do anything but admire the best NA team and antistrat them means nothing, as long as they qualify for the lan finals anyways, which they have every fuckin time. and then u see em at katowice raping good european teams.

You claim it's just banter, but there are threads in the exact same time claiming there's too much flaming and bullying going on. Can't have it both ways you know. Not everyone takes your comments with a smile on their faces.

Virtually impossible to prevent flaming and bullying, can only lighten the blow with bans and hope that people can grow up on their own accord. Unfortunately, having everyone grow up simultaneously is almost as impossible as my first point.

a boot camp isn't really the same as a living there. 3 weeks is not a lot of time, and it's possible teams will not want to give out strats and not play them with full effort so that they can easily counter them later at the tournament they are obviously all preparing for but if you live there, you have more time-- months and multiple tournaments to really gauge their tactics and skill while still being able to continuously practice against the best teams in the world. they can play all the teams repeatedly in qualifiers and online tournaments for money/spots where teams are less likely to throw for counter strats. i think it could make a big difference i think this will be extremely interesting at least

Yeeeeeeeep. I haven't seen bring any established team any success at all. It might help for a new line up to play at a LAN centre for a bit, but after communication and positions are established, everyone does better either at home or in an actual competitive environment like a proper LAN event.

To be fair, Korean and Chinese teams tend to be more like farms rather than organizations. The players are seen as interchangeable parts and the results are the only thing that matter. Esports outside of the high level SC2 world is a much more human affair.

totally agree, but my point was that just because you are in a team house it doesnt have to be negative towards the team IF you are willing to work out your differences and have set goals.

and the asian gaming scene is in a way more "passionate" about living off gaming and they´ll pretty much do anything to be a pro. European scene isnt as devoted = gaming houses fail if they live in them 24/7. also that is why we see more bootcamps from here instead of complete living in GH.

I like this idea because that means that Cloud9 will consistently be able to play against top euro teams plus I'll be able to watch more of their matches as they play considerably late (10-11 pm + delays) in the eastern us time zone.

No CS culture, very different culture overall from what they're used to, also a very different language spoken by everyone outside their Gaming house so they won't be able to communicate with some people, thus they won't feel very much at home. They likeliness of 5 Americans being happy in Berlin when they have never lived very far from home before, is very slim imo. Probably have to be German and feeling happy about a good team coming over to think otherwise, or be a bit naive about cultural differences. But hey, they might be much more adaptable than I think. But in the end there's tonnes more advantages from living in Sweden.

Berlin is probably the most international city in europe and one of the best cities for people to go party etc. There's literally no city in europe where 5 young international people will feel better at. They can also reach all the cs events in europe really comfortable, because they're so central there. Also ESL is based in germany. Berlin will also be way more exciting than stockholm or sth, just because it's a way bigger city. A friend stayed in Berlin for a year, couldn't speak a single word of german. It was just like paradise to him, very exciting city, girls, lots of party... cool city, central, esl close = best choice tbh

This lineup seriously doesn't have the firepower required to compete consistently against the best teams, only reason they win games on lan against good teams is due to having a different style of play which wouldn't be the case if they'll stay in europe.

Yeah, there's no doubt this is the right move. The perfect move is to only bring n0thing and shroud of course, and to take a European 5th. But semphis in particular and maybe even sgares seem to have too much control over the team for their own good. Semphis is out to defend himself because he sees his position being threatened. Can't blame him or sgares of course, just sad for those of us who want the team to have the best placings possible and don't care about the rest.

i dont understand how or even why they kept sgares and semphis for this long. and shazam? I still think thats a temporary move or some kind of joke that I just dont get. hiko skadoodle shroud nothing and +1 player better than shazam then this team could worry some top10 teams potentially

Too little too late now. First they need to get everyone on board with the idea of putting in serious practice, then maybe consider moving.

if ur on pro level you pracc A LOT daily, then having 10 ms vs. 70 ms is a BIG FAT HUGE ASS MONSTER DICK difference. european internet is close to lan sometimes, thats just not possible with usa's endless distances. now imagine you come into a european lan, freakin 1 million dollar tournament, without having any jetlag at all, having pracced daily under lan like conditions, against the best teams the world has to offer ... dont you think your chances of winning are higher? cloud9 HAS to move if they want to make any impact in this scene anytime soon. otherwise their days are over. if the US scene recovers, they can move back. but thats not gonna happen in the next 1-3 years ...

OK, so they are moving to Berlin, but Stockholm is still a possibility, and will stay there indefinitely from sometime after Katowice in preparation for the ESL Cologne 500k$ major in August. That 250k$ self-funded price pool wasn't meant to be announced yet, and the likelihood of Valve matching it is like 90% I think. Hopefully they won't just match it though.

There are no enemies which u can pracctise against in NA, I guess they want to evolve and if u want to evolve u need better enemies to also get better, if they will move to europe i guess they can become a top 10 team even, but they need some small changes in their line up

why would they want to stay here? moving to EU means they can actually scrim. right now they basically have to beg for scrims. the NA scene is stagnant for the time being, this is the best possible outcome for the team. nice typical kneejerk hltv response though, really shows how dense the majority of the userbase here really is.

wow you couldn't sound more lame. "they suck a dick" wow man... Is this the demeanor of must users here? Just excessive shit talking without a trace of constructiveness?? God help you son, get an education, stay in school. ANYWAY! Cloud 9 would benefit from playing in Europe because they would be able to boot camp versus the best teams obviously. Now the logistics of moving some Mericans' to Europe to play higher tier CS sounds kind of crazy but I like it.

none of the good teams permanently live together under 1 roof for extended periods of time. in lol it seems to work but cs not, some people need time to rewind in peace and quiet. this seems like a desperate move by c9, rather change the roster and get rid of bad players like n0thing and whatnot.

I don't see this working tbh. NiP tried the gaming house solution full-time and then reverted that option because it wasn't working. Shox and some other french players hated the verygames/titan gaming house. Even if they improve ingame it will end up breaking the team in the long run imo. Let's see.
