NiP over EnVyUs to Swedish team final

Ninjas in Pyjamas have advanced to the grand final of ESL One Katowice 2015 after defeating EnVyUs: 16:9 on de_cache, 16:10 on de_dust2

NiP wasted no time starting off the second semifinal of the day on the right foot, by taking their T side pistol round as well as the first gunround.

Richard "shox" Papillon helped rally the French EnVyUs squad on the fifth round with an aggressive middle play that put the first round on the board for the "Boys in Blue."

On EnVy's own map pick, NiP ran up to a commanding scoreline of 8:1 before their opponents could once again attempt a fully equipped gunround. Once again however, NiP simply overpowered nV with pick-based gameplay and took over A-site with ease.

EnVy kept up with force-buys in order to attempt to dismantle NiP's momentum to no avail, with the NiP's team leader Richard "Xizt" Landström as well as Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg firing on all cylinders in terms of T-side fragging.

The usually taciturn Xizt gave a loud account of himself on cache

On the 12th round, Edouard "SmithZz" Dubourdeaux combined CZ-75 and AK-47 play at middle to finally give nV their second CT round on the board. The very next round, NiP opted for an aggressive A-take and steamrolled any attempts of a Tricolore comeback in the first half, although the Frenchmen were able to harness the final two rounds in their favour.

EnVyUs demonstrated why they continue to be a team at the elite tier of Counter-Strike in the second half, by stringing together a T-sided comeback of five rounds before NiP once again began to wear them down.

With the score at 14:9 for NiP, EnVyUs went with a default A take and managed to secure the site; NiP grappled in and won a two-on-two despite this advantage and forced the match-point. In the next round, with nV looking lazy and dispirited, NiP powered ahead to take de_cache 16:9.

The second map was de_dust2, and NiP came out roaring on their T-sided pistol round with a long rush, reading nV for their middle stack perfectly. In the first gun round, Vincent "Happy" Schopenhauer fulfilled on his role as both star player and IGL with three kills on A-site to bring the Frenchmen back into the game.

The next-round, the 22-year-old shox hit a pleasing double kill on short A to keep up nV's CT campaign; and indeed the Frenchmen continued to score rounds against NiP with variable rotations and Happy leading with aggressive pushes.

Happy had a strong game on dust2

After giving nV the lead up until 7:4, the Swedish powerhouse began to claw their way back into the game and picked up three more T rounds, with f0rest shining in the kill department. nV were not given a single extra round and NiP ended the half at an 8:7 lead.

In the second half NiP began to calmly pull away with a lead and eventually stood at match-point, 15:10. nV were put on a forced pistol-buy and attacked B-site, but the defense was too strong and NiP walked away with the series win and on to the grand final.

This occasion marks their fifth appearance in the finals of the majors, meaning every single one to this day, an astonishing performance.

Wrong, shox is top 3 entry fraggers in this game. Happy is one of the smartest and best lurkers. Just because it didn't against a great team in one tournament doesn't mean you change what has worked for them for 8 months.

It not that happy isnt a good lurker it is what would help the team. There skill is what has helped them be top 2. EnVy barely have any strats or good mid round calls. Shox was one of the best mid round callers when he was lurking and Happy was a top 2 IGL in the old LDLC.

People keep giving this win to the current fnatic, but in reality the line-up back then had nothing to do with the current fnatic. Whether it was in terms of achievements, level of play or simply line-up, they were light years away from the current fnatic, and, in my opinion, were simply lucky enough that VG ended up in the wrong side of the bracket. Not only because they would likely have lost to them, but also because the VG-NiP semi-final literally drained all the energy out of NiP, who you could see were already seeing themselves lifting the cup after defeating VG. And even if you could argue that they were the better team in the end, it doesn't change the fact that changing 40% of the team doesn't really make you the same team anymore (especially when it's this kind of 40% they got afterwards, I mean KrimZ and Olof became literally fnatic's back-bone). NiP changed one player only, they still kept the core of the team every time, and the fact that they managed to reach the final every time even without much preparation means a lot as to who has the most responsibility for the achievements. In reality, this fnatic have only two finals (including this one), one which could potentially become a title (which would be deserved after all the hard work and tough time they went through). But it's great achievements from their part nonetheless.

NiP is not a swedish team. NiP is a swedish speaking team. It's the same with Titan who are defined as a french speaking team, but not a french team. This is what interviewer said while interviewing f0rest a few days before Katowice - "With the addition of allu NiP became an international team for the first time." If 5 players are the same nationality - that team is defined by that nationality. When you have a team like Titan where 2 players are not french, you can't call that team french.

Yup, got that feeling coming miles away to be honest. nV are shaky as hell ever since their win at X games, and their original game style was already not very consistent. I was already surprised by their win against Na'Vi, but I knew that without Guardian performing Na'Vi was even shakier than nV anyway.

8/10 grand final spots so far have been Swedish teams. That's pretty sick.

Allu was playing pretty bad but the frags he did get were so fucking crucial and saved them from losing some of the rounds so I think even though he doesn't frag as much, he's still a key part in the team cause the team looks so much better.

You mean the one where NiP was 2v1 ? That's an angle a good AWPer should hit, especially when shox stopped there and tried to 1tap allu.

Don't know what to make of allu. He was a difference maker in all teams he's been in so far, but I haven't seen much of him this lan, especially in the so important pistol rounds he was very quiet. But NiP won, so I guess this is what matters the most for them.

This just goes to show that NiP made the right choice in removing Maikelele in the sense that they didn't need him to make it to a major final, they just need someone who's socially adaptable and skilled. In a few months you'll see allu paving the road for the team once he's truly settled.

Where are the ones saying Happy is the best IGL? When NiP found out they win every round they go A on dd2, what did Happy do to adapt? Nothing, that's right.

Well, I disagree in this case. In my opinion both Snax and Xizt are more frag effective igl's.

NiP 2nd final with new 5th player. He must be very important for team. His role is probably: 5th player. this team of 4 is very solid to do that

Allu did awesome job. Obviously his role isnt to have some free role like he had in mousesports/3dmax. He outpeaked opponents awp's, stick together with a team. His role isnt to be agressive awper like kennys (who entryfrag, open sites, take exits), allu's main job is to kill opponents awp asap, so others can do their job. He did that awesome, i didnt expect from he that he will drop 100 bombs everymatch. NiP is teamplay based team, not individal like titan/nV or some other teams

Big effort considering they have restructured a lot.. inferno vs TSM was baaaaad, but changing things so much in only 3 weeks and still doing this well is impressive. By next major we can properly judge NiP with their new 5th man. allu did pretty well considering.. he stays very calm, calls good info, shut down some backstab attempts, and hit the shots that really mattered.. no secret this team has 4 amazing players with him tagging along, but give it time, they can return to the top.. As for tomorrow.. if fnatic play up to their best, they have too much for NiP right now.. too many advantages in map veto options, better cohesion. JW was also very disappointing today, making basic mistakes.. on Mirage it was sad to see him fail, but its very easy to be an armchair expert not on stage expected to play like a robot. They're humans and shit happens. So many decisions to make without any time to think about it. Hindsight is always 20/20.. fnatic get the matchup that can potentially push them to perform at or near their best.. NiP also.. gonna be one hell of a final. One hell of a year, these teams will go head to head all year :] we're lucky to have em.. My prediction.. fnatic 16-11 and 16-13 on two of Cache, Cobblestone, Mirage.. veto D2, NiP would have to give CT start if picking Nuke so veto Inferno and Overpass.. pick Mirage or Cache.. fnatic pick the other or Cobblestone.. kinda guessing but that's how I see their best chances.. Inferno changing roles will take time, showed how it hurt them, fnatic are so strong on so many maps it seems their best bet to me

and everybody never predicted NiP to be in the Final, let alone in the Top 4. Krimz even said the Top 4 will be Fnatic, nV, VP and Titan.
