Keyd Stars ask ESEA for rematch

Keyd Stars have called on ESEA to let them repeat their Pro League match against Tempo Storm.

On Tuesday evening, the Brazilian team were forced to forfeit their Pro League match against Tempo Storm after experiencing a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack just three rounds into the game.

This is not the first time that Keyd Stars have suffered the effects of DDoS attacks since moving to North America to compete in the region's biggest tournaments.

FalleN claims that the team's DDoS woes are finally over

In a statement to HLTV.org, Gabriel "⁠FalleN⁠" Toledo explained that the problem was fixed today as the players' ip addresses have finally been changed. He also revealed that his team have stopped using Skype, through which it is easy to know a person's IP address.

Keyd Stars claim that they notified ESEA about the problem 12 hours in advance and asked for the match to be postponed for a day. But their pleas allegedly fell on deaf ears, despite Tempo Storm agreeing on replaying the match.

"I would publicly like to ask for a rematch because I have tried to contact ESEA and I still haven't got a firm answer," Toledo told HLTV.org.

"Both teams agreed on a rematch because they know how painful it is to experience DdoS problems."

As the Pro League season reaches its climax, Keyd Stars sit third in the table, on an 11-4 record. Right now, all mistakes will cost the team dear, and the outcome of the match against Tempo Storm could severely jeopardise their chances of finishing in the top four and qualifying for the offline finals, in Cologne.

"The game may be growing but the essence of it should never change," Toledo added. "A professional player wants to do what he does best, which is to play. Default wins and default losses should not be a part of a team's daily life

"Teams practice to compete, which is what they want to do. Please, let's repeat the match!"

ESEA has often been criticised for not doing enough to defend the interests of the teams and players competing in its leagues. Last night, it was revealed that Team Liquid captain Eric "⁠adreN⁠" Hoag had been handed a two-day ban after breaching the Pro League's rules as he paused the game against eLevate without permission from the admins due to a DDoS attack on teammate Kyle "⁠flowsicK⁠" Mendez.

HLTV.org contacted ESEA but has not yet received any comment on this matter.

they didn't have the time to set up, nor the knowledge of how things work with the local internet providers, nor the expectation that they'd be targeted given, i'd guess, they rarely were. our normal technique against ddos (in brazil) doesn't work there.

Every online match is a bad idea nowadays, unfortunately. Keyd is new to this ddos thing, they came from Brazil and our matches here are not on any betting website. They got caught off guard a bit, and that's extremely comprehensible

Funny what people say that this will set a precedent, but do not remember when fnatic had problems and asked to reschedule the ESEA did it at once, Fallen yesterday spent the entire day trying to reschedule without getting ANY RESPONSE. Esea two weights and two measures joke. Announced this tournament with awards 500k for NA and 500k for EU, then changed the rules to 500k EU/NA, good marketing ploy.

I follow both the CSGO and Dota2 scene and I have to say something like this is ridiculous in Dota nowadays. I've never seen a team that was being DDOS'd or disconnected and the admins don't allow for a pause to fix the problem. If the biggest league "ESL ESEA Pro League" in CSGO has these "rules", honestly I wouldn't play. Sure, the prize money is huge but if rules like this exist which could compromise your qualification, it's not worth it to play.

Hmm... because the bettors screw a lot of ESEA games? I know the players are supposed to do this, but some of them always get caught off guard. Keyd came from Brazil and never got ddosed here, because our games are never on csgolounge. We have like 12 teams in the league, which means 60 players involved at least. That's a huge number, a few players will always have problems with ddos, unfortunately. And if one player of keyd gets ddosed, all of them will. Anyway, they are extremely professional and are trying to solve this ddos issue, fallen said they already got protection today. Let's hope it doesn't happen again

If even a lot of players who deal with ddos for a long time still can't protect themselves, imagine someone who never got ddosed. Everyone deserves a second chance, ESEA could do 1 match/team limit rescheduled due to ddos, and after this day the players would have to protect themselves efficiently, otherwise they would lose their matches. It will never be the league's fault the players can't get decent protection, ofc. But like I said, it's impossible to make these online leagues without ddos. They should allow a few matches to be rescheduled in case of ddos when both teams agree. Everyone commits mistakes. We are talking about humans here. ESEA could do at least 1 match limit per team to be rescheduled due to ddos. After this match/day, the players should be able to protect themselves and learn with their mistakes

What other teams do is re-schedule the match, before they forfeit. A forfeit is final, you agreed to give the win to the enemy team. While I believe that there should have been a response to Fallen's request, I can't say that I think ESEA is wrong to not allow for replays. KeyD joined the league, they know the rules. I think it's funny how people are sticking up for ESEA for standing their ground. But they used to always bend the rules for the professional division. I think ESEA should be more sensible about that, but Keyd should have a backup plan for situations like that. Anyway, I think it's better this way, this match won't taky out Keyd's chances, and it shows that organizations should be more prepared to deal with this kind of issue.
