Details for Asian Cologne qualifier

The Electronic Sports League has revealed more details about the Asian qualifier for ESL One Cologne.

Earlier in the month, ESL revealed that the upcoming major will feature for the very first time offline qualifiers, in Europe, North America and Asia.

The first qualifier will be the Asian one, which will take place on July 18-19 inside the eCurve shopping centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Eight teams will duke it out in this qualifier for two spots at ESL One Cologne, in late August.

Vox Eminor will take part in the Oceanic pre-qualifier

Seven participants will be determined through preliminary online qualifiers taking place in Asia and in Oceania, while the last team will be selected through an application process for teams from countries and regions without qualifiers.

Below is a list with all the preliminary qualifiers:

Oceania - Two spots
China - One spot
East Asia - One spot
Southeast Asia - One spot
India - One spot
Malaysia - One spot

I agree and I think most people that follow CS will agree with you. 16teams and BO1 groups is a bit of a joke. We need round robin BO3s then and upper and lower bracket in playoffs.

32 is a bit much I think 16 is a good number for a major. Sending 32 teams out to an event would be a lot more work and would require a lot more time a week at least. And a lot of teams do play in th tournament. Just not at LAN. I like the system we have now. It makes the tournament exciting with upsets but consistant with top teams.

But realistically only about 20-30 teams should be allowe to be considered "professional" e-sports isn't big enough to host huge 64-128 team tourneys. Even in actual sports the most teams in a league are around 32 and maybe 16 make it to the play offs...

I'm Filipino hor, I moved to Singapore since 2006 eh the Asian scene in CS is bad la hor no offense ah, we asians mostly suck at FPS Games, Only Europeans , Aussies , New Zealanders , North & South Americans are good at FPS games.
