ESL ESEA Pro League finalists found

The online season is two matches from completion and the eight participants at the $250,000 ESL ESEA Pro League Finals on July 2-5 have been determined.

Following a grueling twenty-two match online season for a total of twelve teams on each continent, only two matches remain - with dignitas possibly forfeiting theirs - to finalize the season standings.

The regular season on each continent has paid out $125,000 in prize  money - for a total of $250,000 - thus meaning there's only $250,000 left for the Finals from the massive $500,000 prize purse.

pronax led his squad to a first place finish in the European division of ESL ESEA

Below are the final standings for each continent's regular season, which shelled out idential prize purses to both the European and the North American division.

ESEA is an American league(for the most part), this entire tournament is sponsored by all of us here in America that play CS and pay for ESEA every month. We had over 700 teams competing in open this season here in America. They fronted a ton of cash to make this possible, therefor we American's get to see 4 American teams compete in this American sponsored tournament. MURICA

It should be 5 / 3 for EU / NA. As in other cups in the world where skill factor is considered. Lower number of spots made EU league interesting as big teams had to fight as we knew some must drop. But I doubt any of NA teams can beat EU team in the finals. Good thing is that NA has more practice now, so maybe they'll improve.

No, the point of this tournament structure is to give the 2 continents a 50/50 chance to win the tournament. It's not ESEA's or ESL's fault that the NA teams lack in the tactical department and have mental struggles.

I agree, but seen from the outside as a sponsor it seems way more interesting than 9 EU teams vs 1 NA team. So i see why they have the setup they have.

The tournament structure is clearly made to give the 2 continents a 50/50 chance to win. But as i said it's not the tournament organizers problem that the NA scene struggle. If i should throw money in a tournament, i would prefere this structure over the "13 EU teams vs 3 NA teams" structure that you properbly would like.

May I ask you where you read that the point of the tournament is to give two continents a 50/50 chance? Because I'm pretty sure it's just because ESEA is American.

It's not something i have read. Ofc the structure is how it is because ESEA have an NA league. However it would make no sense for ESEA to go and join forces with ESL, if the NA scene got less participants at the LAN finals. 4 teams from each continent tecnically makes the odds 50/50, how the NA teams performs doesn't matter in that equation.

"Fair" in this context would be to have a global qualifier, which would probably result in 6-8 EU teams. "Better" is of course a different story altogether.

NaVi is in the 7-9 slot somewhere, depending on their last game. NA has 4 slots, same as EU. Both orgs paid half. Don't like it? Too bad. The rules were top 4 from each side. If you wanted NaVi in, they should have come top 4.

And with no tournaments like this that actually give a fair chance to NA teams and allow them to compete with EU and improve then there will always remain a big skill difference, which would be shit. The only way to get an even skill is for more competition and more incentive (prize money). It's a really good thing that it's 4 from both imo.

I expect you're correct but at least let them play first then make this judegment. The NA scene has clearly improved recently and with tournaments like this that encourage more sponsorship, more player commitment and effort etc then the NA skill level should keep improving. I'd love to see NA teams beating TSM/fnatic, they'll only do that if there is incentive and money enough for them to commit to the game fully.

More sponsorship for NA teams? Organisations as Liquid and C9 are sponsored pretty well and Liquid for example haven't performed well at any event vs EU and even australian teams that don't have pretty much any chance to practise against top teams

Please name all the events that liquid have competed aginst EU at with their current roster. Regardless. You obviously think the scene should just stay purely within the established teams in EU and everyone else who isn't at their level (presumably including Tier 2/3 EU teams) should just fuck off and never get a chance to compete because they suck. I disagree and think that promoting the scene worldwide, boosting viewing figures, boosting sponsorship and the number of international events, encouraging commitment and adding incentive for players and teams to improve and not just limiting the scene and prize money to just the top6 EU teams that we see everyday is a good thing. We'll agree to disagree. I for one am looking forward to seeing how all 4 NA teams do against the best in the world.

The NA scene has clearly improved? Since when? Since Fnatic was there and totally fucked up their tournament without losing a map? When even was the last NA vs EU match? Last major? That went well. Only Keyd outside groups and they ain't even NA. Some American teams are among the best paid ones and they still suck. Money-problems is just an excuse bad players come with when they can't win. FE players have used it for years. Decades even.

"since fnatic was there" - in February, really? You actually think that's still relevant now... Fucking hell... Even ESL One Katowice was at the start of march ffs and every NA team has had major roster changes since then. It's fucking obvious to anyone with any idea of how the CSGO scene works that the NA scene is stronger and with more competitive teams (Cloud9, keyD, liquid, Lum etc). Nowehere have I said that they'll rape fnatic and tsm on LAN but to deny that the scene is getting better over there just shows total ignorance and a lack of understanding of CSGO in general.

Have they even played EU teams yet since those tournaments? Maybe they are better, maybe they are worse. We have nothing to compare to except other NA teams. C9 is probably better than before since they managed to beat Keyd in standings. What is it I have missed about CSGO and the NA scene lately that shows they have actually become better? Unless I missed an event (and I might have done that) there's no chance in hell you can interpret that the NA scene is better than before. Only different. The NA scene has swapped players around for fucking years and it has never worked. What's so special about this time?

top2 navi rofl, because they beat NV in a close bo5 in overtime. they still struggled against Gplay, f3, and G2 in the group stage, would have never happened top TSM or fnatic. and its not like they werent invited, they just didnt qualify so it's their mistake, which doesn't make this a shit event.

ESEA is an American company, founded and run by two Americans. Maybe ESL should stop showing favoritism for EU? It is a German company after all. It is within their rights to have only German teams participate. Just be happy they're not restrictive that way.

It's not ESEA who needs to change anything, it's the NA teams who need to work harder to get better. They need to work on their tactics and mental strength. NA teams are sloppy as fuck, because the organizations let them be. So clearly the organizations need to be stricter aswell.

No. ESEA is an American org, run by two American's, that put up 50% of the prize money. If ESL wanted 6 EU teams and only 2 NA (like almost all other LAN's that have any NA teams), then they should have put down 3/4 of the money, not half.

Can't really understand how ppl get mad about the fact that there will be 4 teams from NA and EU, this is the thing which (hopefully) makes NA more motivated and slowly getting on EU's level. If there would always be 1-2 spots for NA at international events how would they ever get the experience etc...

Exactly, just what I've been saying to people also. I swear there are some morons on hltv who still think the scene was better when NiP were the only fulltime commited team and raped everyone and won all the money. Recently with Na'Vi, Envy, TSM, fnatic etc all battling for top spots and the NA scene improving massively the scen is SOOOOOO much more exciting than it was. I hope NA continue to get money, tournaments and sponsers until we finally see either keyD or an NA team with Ska, shroud, hiko, roca and tarik win a major.

If there were only 2 spots for NA they would be competing their hardest to get a spot, which will improve their gameplay. With there being 4 spots, the top NA teams don't even have to try hard as they're near enough guaranteed a spot as the competition is just so poor.

Why is NA more important than other scenes? How about 2 from NA/SA and 2 for Asia/Oceania? or more realistically 2 from NA, 1 from SA and 1 from Asia/Oceania? If we're simply going to be throwing invites at continents in order to "motivate their scenes" rather than merit, than surely that is far more fair. There is no way at all NA merits 4 places. It's not even just unfair for EU, someone like Vox is more deserving of a place than LG or CLG.

Why is EU more important than other scenes? How about 2 from EU and 2 for Asia/Oceania? Oh wait, I know why: Vox(and anyone else) isn't part of the league. They don't have the wins to contend. If they play in the league and beat those teams out, I would agree, but in this case, they haven't.

From a spectator/fan point of view it does kind of suck that obviously inferior teams are given the same opportunities as teams that are better and have worked harder than them. But at the end of the day this whole tournament couldn't happen without ESEA. It is within ESEA's rights to include "their teams" in the tournament as they've invested a lot of money in it. That's just the nature of this tournament, deal with it. Also consider the influence this tournament has had on the NA scene. This whole thing is a pretty big deal. The more PROPER opportunities you give the NA teams, the better they'll become. To say it's waste of money to reward the NA teams with so much money shows that some people are incapable of seeing the bigger picture and thinking long-term.

What bigger picture ? You really think handing welfare spots to NA is gonna motivate them to play better ? Arent you a little bit naive ? If anything having 2 NA spots would actually motivate them to improve, but they wont give a fuck now that they get their free money for beating a few pug teams in online bo1 Not to mention NA already gets plenty of opportunities between mlg, cevo, gfinity, faceit, majors etc

Yes, I do think that money plays a huge role in motivating players and organisations in the long run. It can be the difference breaker between a player deciding whether he should go all out, ditch his day job, and dedicate his days to improving, or deciding just to stay where he is now. More money invites more organisations. More money incentives organisations into paying greater pay for the players and taking greater risks. Money definitely plays a huge factor in making an esport scene bigger and more competitive. It's still not "easy money", at least not easy enough to encourage stagnancy

1-2-Fnatic,VP 3-Envy 4-TSM 5-C9 6-Keyd 7-CLG 8-Luminosity TSM won't be practicing as mutch as they did due to their finals, Fnatic are on a break now so a in-form VP can challenge them, Envy are in poor shape recently, also NA teams are not even close to a challenge to EU teams.

People always whine about NA being inferior to EU, but how are they supposed to get better if they never get to play against euro teams? I like the fact both continents are on equal footing, though one Brazilian team was able to sneak in as well.

Kind of stupid to have as many EU/NA teams, after all the NA teams would probably not even qualify in they played the EU-qualifier. This way the LAN-finals have a lot less quality, top 8 teams EU are better than all teams in NA.

American money made this possible, in order to keep our support we want to see our teams play. Which is why it is 1/2 NA(ESEA) and 1/2 ESL(EU) tournament. If you don't like it you can convince the EU to come up with the money to make a tournament that only EU's can attend.

Thank you for being a giant cuntbag and being incorrect. Have a nice day. I think you should just take a chill pill, and enjoy the CS. The American teams might surprise you. They have competed in the past and I believe in they have ability to step up their gameplay. And for the record, NA teams have consistently had at least 1 team who is in the top 10 in the world, typically Top5. This happens every year. Look at 2014's top 10 hltv.org/?pageid=182&statsfilter=3 ...

Haha, incorrect? Tell me the last thing Cloud9 or any american team won that involved EU teams? It would be like football saying oh we are going to let these division two teams into the champions league because they deserve a chance, Get to fuck they need to earn it. And no american team has earned the right. What happened to Clown9 at there last lan, they didn't win a SINGLE map. They are a fucking tier 3 team in the EU if that, and they take other good teams spots. It's ridiculous. How am I wrong in any shape or form? What have cloud9 done in the last 3/4 majors? Not a fucking thing they have been knocked out before group stages. So yeah my point stands. They DO NOT DESERVE to be there. End of discussion.

I mean, it's all fun and games, until I put legitimate results infront of your face and then you just laugh. If NA teams lived in EU, at least 2 of them would be top 8 and 1 of them would be top 5 guaranteed. You can talk as much shit as you want, but results don't lie. NA has competed fairly well on a consistant basis considering we play in 1/10th of the tournaments that the EU teams, play in. Not to mention you have much better practice partners.

I mean Kstars made it out of groups at the last major, and Clown9(as you put them) is a mashup of iBP and the old Cloud9(who beat VP, NiP, and Navi) roster. They just started playing together at the beginning of this esea season(Feb), their chemistry has been jelling and they look like they can compete, I'm just optimistic that we could have some good CS on our hands and that's all I really care about.

Really sucks that Liquid didn't make it, they are way better than CLG and are on the level of C9 and Keyd, even higher on good days. Standings should have been #1: C9 #2: kStars #3: Liquid #4: Luminosity

I agree, Liquid has been a great team and has really played well the last couple weeks. It sucks to see them not getting to come, I wish they would have worked a little harder and not lost to underdogs early in the season, especially when they took maps off some really good teams last time they played internationally.(Fnatic)

Shouldn't have lost to ~3 lesser skilled teams then, right? even C9 lost twice against lesser teams, eLevate and TS.

we are losing titan and navi due to having some fuckin clg and lumonisity in such a huge tournament. This format is a joke and the influence of big organisations has to end. Just simply not fair

Actually they are out because of the EU teams that made it. They should have won their division.

I'm a retard because I am stating the truth? This is how league play works. I don't *know* that European teams should have more spots for not winning their division. I'm not sure if you follow any other sports, but that isn't how it works. Even if you can argue that a team is "better" they still have to win in their division. Tough luck if they can't(at least with no wildcard).

Cloud9 took a map off of TSM when they played at Katowice, this roster seems to be even better.

Hilarious that people(predominately Europeans, by the look of it) don't know how leagues or divisions work.

why is nv fourth? they are 1-1 with tsm with the same round difference between them but a better round difference overall is it because mouse forfeited their last match against them?

Guys, I dont understand why you all are so mad about the equal share of slots split btw NA and EU. It was already known and accepted by all the teams that the top 4 teams frm each continent will compete in the offline finals so what is the fuss all about now? The skill gap btw EU and NA is irrelevant here. The point of this tourney is to pit the NA elite against the EU elite, NOT to actually determine the proper world rankings. If you wanna a tourney like that, the majors are there for you. Dont you guys get it? Whether EU teams will stomp NA teams or not, that is irrelevant. And...for NA scene to improve, they need more of their teams to get international experience. How is it fair to judge the growth of their scene if they are not being given equal exposure to compete amongst the world's best?

Why is everyone so mad? Who has the most viewers when it comes to these tournaments? Americans. Who is earning the most money for the advertisements and everything? Americans. Ok now shut up and deal with watching the best teams from NA and EU compete. I look forward to watching the tournament, but they will get more viewers with NA teams involved than not. Think about it

I don't even get why people are clamoring for teams outside of the league to get in. And in regards to other EU teams, they should have done better in division play. It's simple as that.

Well EU Qualifier is a bit harder than the shitty NA one. Does NA even have 4 good teams? They even "imported" KeyD to even have 4 teams that could perhaps take one map against EU-teams. I'd say KeyD is NA's hope. Funny cuz they are from Brazil, NA can't produce a good team....

Doesn't matter that it's harder. Doesn't change the fact that teams in the league are the only one that matter, and that you have to win divisional play. And if you honestly think Keyd are the biggest hope, lol, you haven't been watching the games, have you?

Sigh. Despite the (unusually and extremely) prideful comments from us flaggers, it's kinda obvious to all that moment the finals start, there would be ALOT of rekt and stomping going on and the 4 NA teams will most likely be placed at 5-8. It might be a e-sports and with it comes stuff like business and betting, but it's still a game, only those with real skills will win. No matter how many times the (money talks magic) happens and some teams that wouldn't have made it through the online qualifiers if all of them fought in mixed country brackets, even if they got free dosh from the bottom spots at the finals they would never really "win" or improve tbh. Some say NA needs more chances to play in tournaments with top CS:GO teams(who are all EU teams) and get more experience, but I honestly don't see much difference whether they do or not. If the NA teams needs more experience going against top EU teams, who does the top EU team need more experience against and where can they go to do that? All of those top teams in the world in EU got to those levels only playing each other and I doubt they traveled to other countries far away to get "experience", so why does NA need to specially do all that just to be able to even challenge top EU teams? It's not as if the US is a small country and they have quite a few pro teams that plays each other constantly as well(yet it doesn't seem like their levels improve, like the EU scene). They also aren't in a position like Keyd where in their country, there aren't any strong pro teams that they can constantly have matches against(or even constant leagues matches) to improve themselves. It could be because I'm not a fanboi of any team or country/scene, those comments about "why NA teams aren't as comparable in terms of skill, teamwork, strats(and pretty much anything else in regards to the game) to EU teams" sounds awfully biased and/or like excuses to me.

I like how you ignore the arrogant and silly European comments that don't understand how league/division play work, and then complain about how the already established format is wrong because the European teams they wanted to see failed to get in.

Are all the angry euro children still convinced that NA won't win a single map, that none of those teams deserve to be there, that they'll all get stomped and the games will be shit? Watching CLG beat fnatic then was fucking epic. They might not win another map but all the same that's a fucking brilliant win for them. And I'm a euro, just not a pathetic little kid like most on here who only want Envy/fnatic/tsm to win everything and play every final. Diversity is good, NA scene is improving and it's waaay more exciting to have them competing and looking good than having NiP/fnatic rape everyone and win everything. The more decent teams the better for the game in general.
