NA Cologne qualifier teams revealed

All eight teams are now known for the North American qualifier for ESL One Cologne.

The North American qualifier for ESL One Cologne, now a major due to Valve's support, will take place inside of ESL's American studio in Burbank, California on August 1-2.

The first four sides to automatically qualify for the North American qualifier were the four teams who placed top four in season one of the ESL ESEA Pro League.

Since Keyd Stars, who already possess a direct invite to ESL One Cologne, finished in the top four of the North American division, the final invite automatically went to the fifth-placed team: Liquid.

RUSH helped Tempo Storm to be the first team to win the open qualifier

The final four teams proceeded through an open online perliminary qualifier, which ran in a single elimination, best-of-three format from June 27-28. With the brackets completed and all play finished, all eight teams are now known.

Invites Open Qualifier
United States Cloud9 United States Tempo Storm
United States Luminosity United States Nihilum
United States CLG United States eLevate
United States Liquid United States Noble eSports

The top two teams from this offline qualifier in Burbank, California will qualify for ESL One Cologne 2015, which takes place August 20-23 and which is the second major of this year.

one performance where they did well on one map. By that logic, Acer deserve in because they lost to fnatic in a bo3 2-1, 16-14 on the last map once.

Yes, one performance because that's basically all the had, envyus and vp. And they scored well against vp also. So saying by one performance, yes, by one performance because that's all the chance they had. They also scored very well on the cache game, just couldn't pull out the win

Didn't mention Britain at all. IMO, the way forward is the last qualifier for majors. NA still had 2 teams, but it felt like those two teams deserved their place after fighting it out vs the best of the rest.

to be fair it would be pretty pricy for esl to fly 16 teams of 5 people to europe (8 na, 8 aussie) or wherever you want to hold the even. I see your point however.

Why not, they tried making it so there was 1 open qualifier for everyone, eu thought this way there would only be 1 or 0 NA teams qualifying for the major, ended up with 2 teams still qualifying still, makes sense to go back to the old format

The NA scene still generates a hell of a lot of money through steam sponsorship etc, so it makes sense to have some NA teams there for the fans even though they're not tier 1. Personally I like seeing the NA teams compete. The sponsors want as many viewers as possible and NA is a huge market.

because NA is a big market and a lot of people in NA support the game. NA makes up about 35-45 pct of the playerbase and a signifigant amount of them are invested in the pro scene and want to see their favorite teams in the biggest events of the year.

If no NA teams were invited into the majors, the game would die. Valve sponsors the majors, Valve is an American company. Some of the biggest sponsor money at any larger CS:GO event comes from American companies. Another way to consider this: Why does EU get 14 slots in the COD world championships when NONE of them get to the playoffs? It would be better to put more US teams in for stronger competition. However, neither game does that because global appeal is important for future earnings; drivin by casual gamers, not pro's. Another way to look at this: If I'm the marketing director of a company I'm probably going to want some representation from my home country if they expect me to shell out money to sponsor an event. Keeping it all European just because that's what the Europeans want isn't going to convince me to sponsor anything.
