Renegades to miss FACEIT S2 finals

Renegades will have to forgo the FACEIT League 2015 Stage 2 finals due to an overlapping date with the ESL One Cologne Asian qualifier in Malaysia.

The former Vox Eminor squad managed to finish first place in the FACEIT League 2015 Stage 2 Oceanic division, defeating their rivals Immunity in a deciding match over the weekend.

However, an overlapping finals date with the ESL One Cologne Asian qualifier (which both Renegades and Immunity qualified for via their finishes at ACL Sydney) means that Renegades would have to choose between attending the FACEIT finals in Valencia, Spain or the Cologne qualifier in Malaysia.

Renegades will be unable to attend the FACEIT finals at DreamHack Valencia

Luke "⁠Havoc⁠" Paton has confirmed that the team will have to decline the sole FACEIT Stage 2 finals spot at DreamHack Valencia, taking place July 16-18.

Because Immunity finished second place in the FACEIT Stage 2 Oceanic division but have also clinched the second Oceanic pre-qualification spot for ESL One Cologne, the runner-up team will be unable to attend the FACEIT finals as well.

A replacement or workaround team will presumably be announced in the coming days.

last time in EU they took a map off fnatic and NiP (2 ties) and beat Liquid. Tho they got crushed by navi, it was still an impressive showing.

So Renegades not getting out of groups equals getting crushed? They tied NiP and Fnatic, beat Liquid easily and lost heavily to Na`Vi. Incredible showing from an Australian team if you ask me.

That doesn't mean they got crushed. There's something in between getting crushed dead last and winning everything. They had a good showing despite not getting through the groupstage.

They are the favorites for the Cologne qualifier, they are 100% the best team there.

They are expected to win the Malaysian qualifier relatively easily. It's not really a gamble.

This is just stupid, how about sorting some kind of solution? I mean.. is the grand final day of each tournament the same? If not, it should be doable.

Because flying from Spain to Malaysia and playing on the same day is reasonable?

No but if the events were like 16-17 ESL qualifier and 17-19 faceit, it was possible to make the schedule at faceit so renegades could join on 18. However, I see that ESL qualifier is 18-19 July while Faceit is 16-19 making it impossible if Renegades move on from first two days at faceit (which seems really hard indeed but image if they did and then had to leave :D)

They should not even bother giving the spot to the 3rd place team. The 3rd place Australian talent would be awful. Just invite another European team. That being said, RNG should just be getting invites to majors anyway.

I think you're underestimating the Australian teams. There's a lot of players around that've attended WCG events in other versions of CS. They just don't play in the top 1-2 teams at the moment.

Someone really needs to found an organization like ATP/WTA for tennis and establish a tournament calendar so teams can plan accordingly. This is fucking madness.. All the work the team put in a league just to miss what they worked for.
