Devilwalk signs with Luminosity

Jonatan "Devilwalk" Lundberg—coach, analyst, and former player—has signed to Luminosity Gaming, replacing Keith "NAF-FLY" Markovic.

Since Jonatan "⁠Devilwalk⁠" Lundberg's departure from the fnatic lineup in 2014, the Swede had been primarily occupied as an event analyst and also as fnatic's coach (which ended late this May).

Since stepping down from coaching, Devilwalk was seen as attempting to return to competitive play, especially following his brief stint in the 1337 team lineup.

In another powerplay move involving a Swedish player, Luminosity Gaming have confirmed the signing of Devilwalk, echoing the earlier signing of Jacob "⁠pyth⁠" Mourujärvi this April. It also appears from the organisation's Tweet about the signing that Devilwalk is already on-site at the team's gaming house in Canada.

Devilwalk switches from a coach role to that of a player in the North American scene

The player being shown the door in exchange is Canadian Keith "⁠NAF⁠" Markovic, with the organisation claiming the decision to separate was mutual. Luminosity were marked as having a fairly disappointing showing at the ESL ESEA Season 1 finals, considering the other North American teams' results.

The lineup will be put to the test immediately, having to travel from their gaming house in Canada straight to ESWC 2015 in Montreal this weekend, where the team is drawn in a group with Na`Vi, Titan, and SK Gaming.

Luminosity's lineup is now:

there are no good callers in sweden mate. Threat had everything. Experience, routine, discipline and tactical knowledge and understanding. Hell, he took players with 1000 hrs of playing the game (wenton, khrystal), slap and spitfire and in a matter of about 3 weeks or a month they took a map off of fnatic. Was it because of their individual skill? I doubt it. Was it because of their tactical approach? Makes much more sense imo.

It MIGHT work out. They need someone to call for them however and I dont know who thatll be. Sadly, Maikelele, Pyth and DW now left Sweden. Right now Id just put together: Khrystal Schneider Slap Pauf Twist And try to make it work with khrystal calling somehow, because he has the experience to do it. Threat was that good as an IGL in GO yes. He wasnt that good a player but as a caller he made acer rise so fast he proved he can do it.

The point of this switch was to have dw take over as the igl. That way ptr can focus on awping. Dw is a genius when it comes to this game so, having him as I will do much better than what they have right now.

Maybe ChrisJ beat him as well on a different occasion. The one time I saw was definitely not ChrisJ, it was some random swedish dude. After the loss, GTR played a game with the chat as well and khobra (who played in some semi-pro mixes in CSGO, like Aligon) was carrying GTR's team including an AWP ace from platform on dust2 B site. lol. he hasn't been active for a year, he was the worst player in fnatic, and they got 100% better and starting roflstomping everyone once stepped down. fnatic won dreamhack because of pronax, and it was a fluke. they couldn't put up results anything like that in the stretch between winning dreamhack winter and signing olofm & krimz. where did this idea that he's a strat guru come from? fnatic is the #1 team in the world because they have the best players in sweden and the best igl. not because of dw, weak fragger and never proved his igl abilities.

A lot of lithuanian cs players play with pasha on stream, has some good individual players. They took him for his knowledge on cs. He will be integrated into the igl role, so ptr can focus more on awping. Hopefully he can do sort of what cloud9 do with skadoodle, and get ptr into positions where he can make plays happen.

The article explains why. They wanted more teamwork oriented team. So a parent lu there was something wrong with how they bonded with naf fly. And dw has a wealth of knowledge and tactics to bring to the table for Luminosity. He will be a better igl than ptr, so now ptr can focus on his awping.

the team explained the situation early on when they moved into the gaming house. NAF was the only player that was not moving into the gaming house, he's 17 and still in highschool. I'm not sure if it was the parents decision to keep him home but I know for a fact he wasn't moving into the gaming house with them so they didn't have much of a choice, he was being replaced either way
