IEM San Jose with $100k tournament

ESL has announced that the IEM stop in San Jose will feature a Counter-Strike tournament with upwards of $100,000 on offer.

The SAP Center indoor arena, commonly known as "The Shark Tank" will stage on November 21-22 the third IEM event of the season, the second to feature Counter-Strike after the Gamescom stop, which will see six teams face off for a piece of an $85,000 pool.

San Jose's stop will have $100,000 on offer for Counter-Strike players, though this figure will increase further through community funding options, which should be revealed shortly.

IEM San Jose will be the "biggest CS:GO event in North America to date", says ESL

The entire tournament will, according to ESL, be played on a massive stage, making it "the biggest CS:GO event North America has seen to date."

IEM San Jose will also play a key role in determining which teams will attend the final event of the season, the IEM World Championship, in Katowice, in early 2016, ESL has revealed.

The problem was that only subscribers on twitch could contribute money(like 2,5~ $ month). I don't know if they did, but I didn't see anywhere that donators could chip in on the prize pool. Just imagine motar2k giving 20k $ instantly for that.

I wouldn't mind contributing to the crowd funding if they had the rewards system like in dota's ti. I would love to see some incentives for each prize pool goal reached

IEM world finals have totally different qualifications system than Valve's majors. It demands major changes by Valve or IEM. I doubt any of them will surrender to other one.

If it's a major it should have the same qualifing system than others (8 legends from last major playoffs and 8 challenger from qualifier) Here, they say that this IEM will determine who will go to Katowice. So this Katowice event won't be a major, or valve might have allowed ESL to do some changes (which is wierd)

Not as long as people don't benefit from their donations, the only reason the prize pool is that high in Dota2 is because people benefit from giving their money for the prizepool.

I hope the pricemoney will exceed 250.000$, so either valve realizes the potential for proper crowdfunding in the three majors or proper competition with the majors from IEM.

Why what? I'm not sure I understand your comment. What does DH Winter has to do with anything, beside the fact that it's a major? As long as it's not coinciding with IEM, then what is the big problem about the time of it?

Haven't we tried having CS in the US with very little successes? I remember WCG 2010 in Los Angeles. The crowd sucked, there was barely any interest for E-sports in the US, especially CS. Lets hope times have changed. Maybe then I can change my view of the US as the land of console peasants and casual mobile gamers.
