HellRaisers win APM S1 Finals

HellRaisers overpower mousesports in a best-of-seven grand final of Acer Predator Masters 4-3 (de_cache 12-16, de_dust2 16-9, de_overpass 14-16, de_train 16-13, de_cbble 16-10, de_mirage 16-10) and take the $20,000 main prize.

Due to coming from the upper bracket, mousesports had a one-map advantage from the start in the unique best-of-seven. The German side also got to veto a map in the beginning of the process, and chose to leave de_inferno out of the pool.

The Acer Predator Masters grand final's first map was de_cache, and it was mousesports who kicked it off with a very convincing Counter-Terrorist side, topped off with four rounds, even though HellRaisers gave them a hard time in the beginning.

de_dust2 was a much taller task for Chris "chrisJ" de Jong's team, who were unable to score more than four rounds on the slightly favoured CT side and ended up going down at 9-16 to make it 2-1 in the series.

HellRaisers showed their stamina in the unique format

HellRaisers seemed to be in good spirits after a confident 12-3 Terrorist side on de_overpass, but the tides turned when the sides swapped, and mousesports brought a single-round-better offence for 16-14.

de_train went HellRaisers' way following close halves, and the CIS-based team broke the trend of exchanging maps, equalizing the series at 3-3 following a near-perfect Terrorist side on de_cbble.

Who would in the end take the title was decided on the last map remaining, de_mirage and once again HellRaisers showed a strong offence, taking seven rounds away from the Germany-based team, which was more than enough to seal the last map.

Every decent team SHOULD practice all 7 maps. If they're trying to hide their weak maps with vetoes then it's good that a format like this can punish them. It's still only one map, so if you're the better team and only practice 5 or 6 maps, you should still win. I can agree that it wears teams out, but I don't think it's necessarily that much more grueling than a Bo3 followed by a Bo5, which sometimes happens in the same day. Moreover, playing all 7 maps gives the truest indication which team is the best, which I think is the goal of these tournaments.

Bo7 is ridiculous. Bo5, if anything, is fine. A team could lose on a map they are known for being strong on because they played it as like the 6th map. It shows endurance, but not who's "better". You're better in a Bo7, cool. But will you be better in the Bo1 or Bo3 format that majors are played in? Or the Bo5 Finals of some tourneys? Not really.

So because a bo7 can produce a different result than a bo3 or bo5, it must be bad? Isn't that point of having a different format? If all bo5s are won by the team that would win a bo3, why have a bo5?

But does winning a Bo7 against a team mean you could beat them in a regular Bo3 or Bo5 or Bo1? No. I mean good job, you won a Bo7. No one can take that from you. But, that doesn't translate to being better in the average setting. Cool, you're better in an extreme setting but most tournaments don't contain that so gg. The Bo7 has too many random elements(Sounds crazy, think of it like: the longer you run, the chances of you tripping increase). Think of it like this. If you're good at long distance running in a world that values short distance sprints, it is not really that useful.

The more games you play, the more likely the 'better' team comes out. Think of it this way, how often has a good team lost to a lesser team in a best of 1 game? It can easily happen. If games were first to 5 rounds, it would be much more random than if they were first to 16 rounds. You're right that long matches introduce a lot of new factors that more 'average' matches do not, but the odds of a lesser team beating a better team diminishes with more games played, which helps produce a better regression towards the mean. Moreover, just because it's different doesn't mean I'm going to condemn it. Bo7 is good in the sense that it refuses to allow teams to hide weak maps. You have to be prepared on every map, which I think is great.

But thing is though, no team is going to be good on every map. Even fnatic aren't. And I don't see any team going to do it either, unless you have a team with GODLIKE pure skill that just can out aim other teams without even trying. If CS was first to five rounds with 1:45 timers, we wouldn't have the scene we do today. The community probably would have made mods to make more rounds like we do have today. And also about the Bo1 thing. If a "lesser" team beats a "greater" team on a map, what does that say about the "greater" team? They clearly weren't ready and proficient enough on their map to win. So you say that Bo7s are necessary to get all teams to practice all maps. Well Bo1s/Bo3s/Bo5s can do the same thing. And also who decides that a team is "lesser" or "greater"? Just because they have seemingly less skillful aimers or comparably worse history of calls means they are the lesser team? CS is a game where any team can beat any other team. If you didn't win the game/match, you aren't the greater team. In instances with subs or faulty gear or other things (Lag, configuration not available, etc), this doesn't work. But in instances where there is nothing to blame other than yourself and your team, you are not the greater team. You can be the more favored team because of past data/records and results, but when that match starts, your team and the opposing team are on an equal playing field. Until a winner and loser are decided, no one is greater than the other. A lesser team can't beat a greater team because the lesser team is the one that loses.

Of course any team can beat any team. All games start at 0-0 and the first to 16 wins regardless of who is playing on them. It's understandable that most teams are not great at every map. But the point is that you shouldn't thrive even when you are not playing an active duty map AT ALL. The thing about having more maps played is that it a.) forces teams to develop deeper map pools and b.) reduces the variance of outcome of the match. These things are generally very good. The point of me bringing up the bo1 or hypothetical first-to-5 format is to give an extreme example of where shorter games = too random. If CS was first to 5 it would be almost impossible to consistently win matches (certainly not to the level of NIP 2012-2013 or Fnatic 2014-2015). You lose a pistol round and you're out of luck. Bo7 is certainly different, I agree, and it's possible that it produces a different result than more conventional bo3 or bo5. But that doesn't necessarily mean it's bad.

then HR proved that they are even better? they just played the match vs efrag before the BO7 and still won even tho they started off with a 1 map disadvantage. the endurance thing only showed that mouz was weaker than HR in 1 more thing. can't see the problem here

I also thought so before I saw the match. But when two equal teams are playing in a format like this for several hours, it's a true stress for both teams, it really shows who is the real champion here.

BO1 , BO3 and BO5 TOO RANDOM ! If this was a BO5 then mouz would have won 3-1 after the first 3 maps but them playing nearly every map shows the real champion. Freaking ESL for using only BO1 and BO3s.

+1 I loved that it was so casual. It was really entertaining just watching the casters chilling and drinking. The actual final itself was so much better than I expected it to be too. Neither team deserved to lose but I'm happy HR won.

came 5min late from betting (and losing 110$), im happy :] :D mou fucking beast, chrisJ aswell with mou winning the key duels over the series thought. Comeback and win like that after that loss on Overpass is amazing, not many teams would be able to do that. Their T sides are amazing lately and with mou playing like that they could even compete in tier1 tournaments.

gratz HR, u deserved the win as much as mouz did, u really fought back bravely. im positively suprised. mouz played great the whole tournament up to the 4th map after they led 3:1 by maps, then they kinda took their foot of the gas, which is a shame. they were definitly the best team in the tournament. bo5 would have been "easy" win for mouz, but they lacked stamina in the end, concentration really went down.

What a THRILLER this final was! As Rahim would say: INZEIN! <3 Kudos to both teams, you gave everything you could to make this one of the best finals in the past few years. And especially because this was a BO7. We enjoyed the fight, it was all about perseverance and stamina. Props to Greatfrag to experiment with the BO7 format, no one will ever dare to say that it was too much to handle for the teams and the viewers. You just made BO1's and BO3's merely look like random games. This final is proof that BO7 is a great format that pushes both teams to the very edges of their abilities. It was a viewers' delight. Thank you! And to Rahim: loved your casting bro! I truly hope to see you in the future at other offline finals. Don't get bothered by the negative comments, you have a HUGE fan-base that absolutely has your back and wants to see lots more of you. All the best! <3

Guys,do you even realise what HR did? They won(on LAN):SK Gaming,E-Frag,TSM and Mousesports, and keep in mind that they came all the way from lower bracket. And also that Final match was something unbelievable. This tournament is something different and it's awesome,in my opinion.Sad that they choked on Cologne qualifiers, but such as life. GG WP HR,well deserved, imho.

i know theyve played in majors. i mean nowadays you cant win anything without having 5 madfraggers. kucher may be a soul of the team and hes probably is. but i just hated that shit, when kucher gets killed by pistol, mou then makes 4 insane kills, wins round himself and keeps sitting calm when kucher stands up and starts dancing like a monkey and shouting his russian bullshit. they should all fucking be amazing fraggers if they want to win something more than tier3 tournament - thats my point
