DH Open Stockholm groups announced

DreamHack have announced the group draw for its upcoming Open event in Stockholm, which will run from September 22-26 and also function as a qualifier for the upcoming CS:GO major.

With 16 teams from across the world flying in to Stockholm for September 22-26, DreamHack's Open event will span across two stages and witness an eye-watering best-of-three, double elimination format.

The top eight performing teams (and just which matches will determine said advancements can be seen below in our schedule) will qualify as challengers for next month's CS:GO major at DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca.

Eight teams automatically were placed into the event via their 9-16th place finishes at ESL One Cologne, whereas the other eight teams have been slogging it out via online pre-qualifiers in order to compete: five in Europe, two in North America, and one in Asia.

Titan will share Group B with HellRaisers, eBettle, and Skyred

The official group draw for the event has now taken place, and places the teams into four groups according to an individual team-based seeding:

Group A Group B Group C Group D
United States Cloud9 Ukraine HellRaisers Australia Renegades United States CLG
Australia Immunity France Titan Germany mousesports Ukraine FlipSid3
Finland MIXCAT Poland eBettle  United States Team Liquid  Poland Lounge Gaming
Denmark dignitas Vietnam Skyred Europe Mythic Norway CPH Wolves

As was announced only recently, the Chinese team QeeYou have been replaced by the Vietnamese team Skyred due to the former running into difficulty obtaining visas for the event in time.

The updated schedule, which actually sees Group B play out after Group D and then Group C due to visa and arrival timing, for the event is now:

Tuesday, September 22
12:30 United States Cloud9 vs. Finland MIXCAT
15:30 Australia Immunity vs. Denmark dignitas
18:30 Group A Upper Bracket Final *
21:30 Group A Lower Bracket
Wednesday, September 23
12:30 Ukraine FlipSid3 vs. Norway CPH Wolves
15:30 United States CLG vs. Poland Lounge Gaming
18:30 Group D Upper Bracket Final *
21:30 Group D Lower Bracket
Thursday, September 24
12:30 Germany mousesports vs. Europe Mythic
15:30 Australia Renegades vs. United States Team Liquid
18:30 Group C Upper Bracket Final *
21:30 Group C Lower Bracket
Friday, September 25
12:30 France Titan vs. Vietnam Skyred
15:30 Poland eBettle vs. Ukraine HellRaisers
18:30 Group B Upper Bracket Final *
21:30 Group B Lower Bracket
Saturday, September 26
12:05 Group A Decider Match *
15:05 Group D Decider Match *
18:05 Group C Decider Match *
21:05 Group B Decider Match *

* Winner qualifies for DH Open Cluj-Napoca

The first four days of the event will play out at the Monster Energy DreamHack Studios, which will be closed to the public.

The final day, when all four best-of-three decider matches will take place, will take place at the Annexet Global Arena. Those interested in attending can purchase tickets here.

I guess Property is a tier 2 team. They just need one or two solid guys. Swedens best hope for another top 10 team used to be Acer when Threat led them. Unfortunately they disbanded. I guess we'll have to wait until property gets their shit togheter. The talent is there, they just need to find it.

Group A: C9 + Mixcat. Dignitas have always problems on such quals. Group B: Titan ezpz + HR yuri's revenge. Group C: Ezpz for Hiko and Niko Group D: Hardest group for betting. Think CPH and F3 will take this. Polando team is always weak on quals like Dignitas and CLG in bad form.

On the bright side there's no VP, so C9 (unless they play like they did recently) have a solid chance. Inb4 they steal your group and actually make that a group, LOL.

Group A: C9 should walk it, if they dont then i think its time for changes. 2Md place will be between Dignitas and Immunity. Have to side with Dignitas - they've looked much stronger since schneider joined. Group B: Group of death. Don't know much about asian scene but I imagine theyre the underdogs. HR with s1mple will be strong if he doesnt tilt his own team. Titan afe getting back to their form now so reckon Titan 1st and HR 2nd. Sorry eBettle I like you but just dont see it this time. Group C: Actually think Liquid have a chance here. They've been impressive online and if that form continues to LAN then i can see them being better than Renegades and taking to Mousesports. If Mousesports turn up on form then they'll take 1st and going to go with Liquid as a surprise 2nd. Group D: Very even group. The more I watch CPH Wolves the more I rate them, would quite like them to upset here. Flipsid3 to take 1st and CPH to upset CLG who havent been performing that well recently.

A: c9, Dignitas, Immunity, Mix C9 are far and away the best team in the group. Dignitas' recent roster change makes them a wild card, but also takes away a bit of chemistry. Immunity and Mix have no chance, though. B: Titan, Ebet, HR, Skyred Titan is the clear favorite in this group, although Ebettle could repeat the Cologne qualifier and win the group but I don't see that happening. HellRaisers with simple instead of Dosia is going to be interesting. It's too bad that outside of Mou the rest of them kind of blow now, though. Skyred is an unknown quantity, but I can't see them putting up much of a fight. C: Liquid, Mouz, Renegades, Mythic This is the group of death. Mouz's recent niko change makes them better skill wise, but their communication will suffer as they change to English. Liquid's addition of Hiko makes them scary good. They've already beaten Luminosity to a pulp, handled CLG, and shown consistency that has been expected since they joined the org. Renegades is a known quantity at this point, they won't really surprise anyone in the group. This lan will be the test for them. If they can make it through, they'll solidify their place in the top of tier 2. If not, they fade into obscurity. Mythic has had roster change after roster change in the last few months. It's not really a strong roster in terms of fragging ability, but their experience is pretty nutty. That said, DW isn't IGL anymore, so his fragging has to step up or he'll be a serious crutch. They'll probably finish last in this group, but their form since adding xp3 is encouraging. D: CLG, F3, Lounge, CPH Easiest group CLG could've asked for, frankly. If they do not win this group, I'd expect a roster change. Nothing else to add to this one, really.

Disagree with Group A, Immunity showed some very promising signs in Cologne and Dignitas have been seriously shaky recently, especially against T2 teams.

I have thought that yes. However, if he had a legitimate reason and considering how much hype/interest there is around his situation. And also considering the importance of this particular event for the teams who've made it, and those who didn't because he played then I think it's reasonable to expect him to give a reason. If it's a good one then I'm sure people would understand. If it's all kept quiet and he just carries on playign random online things and helping mix teams qualify for LANs they don't deserve to go to then fuck him.

So many days for matches and yet, the teams are very dependent on their seed, ie. what group they are placed in. How come no cross group matches? Last day could be Group A winner bracket loser - Group B lower bracket winner Group B winner bracket loser - Group A lower bracket winner That way 3 teams could get spots at major if they deserve it. Right now you just find the 2 best teams of each group - maybe a 3rd placed team of one group is better than a 2nd placed team of another group. I was looking forward to a better format with all this time available for Dreamhack.
