Ranking model released by G7 teams

The G7 teams have released a ranking model starting with the top 10 Counter-Strike 1.6 team.

The G7 teams release this ranking model with the hope of improving electronics sports as a whole. In a statement released by the G7 teams we see clearly what their vision is:

The G7 Teams strongly believes that to improve transparency, and reward the achievements of teams and players a balanced ranking system is needed. This will enable the comparison, improved reporting and measurement of the world's Esports teams and players.

The aim of this model, according to the G7 teams, is to allow organisations to know what is needed at an event to withhold their current ranking, the ability to predict possible outcome, it hopes to create more accurate seeds and finally will clearly show which events are more prestigous.

If the model proves to be successful it will not only help organisations but also betting websites, the players and many other electronic sport-related businesses.

The ranking system works on a point-basis. Teams have a number of points, the team with the most is obviously ranked #1. When the teams attend any event, each team's points are added together which creates the event value. The award system follows with the team winning the tournament getting 45% of the total points, 30% going to 2nd place, 15% to 3rd and 10% to the team ending in 4th. Finally, 8% of a team's points is deducted monthly to avoid inactive teams remaining in the top 10.

To better understand the model a full explanation with examples can be found over on the G7 Teams website.

The current Top 10 is as follows:
Note: Points correct at time of writing.

RankTeam Name
Total Points
#1 Sweden fnatic
390.08
#2 Denmark mTw
298.16
#3 Sweden SK Gaming
216.31
#4 Brazil Made in Brazil
216.02
#5 Finland roccat
164.51
#6 Germany mousesports
162.41
#7 Poland MYM
143.38
#8 France emuLate
97.02
#9 Germany aTTaX
83.83
#10 Korea e-STRO
72.12

The ranking system looks fair and solid however will it fail just like the ZoneRank system did which also had the support of the G7 teams? We can only wait and see...

How would you come to that? Mibr has lost to mTw, sk and fnatic every time they have met each other in history or something (ofc not, but almost) mYm has lost to a whole lot of teams other than mTw who their playstyle seems to fit great, but that doesen't make you the world's best. And with all the roster changes in mibr's lineup, how would you say they are the best? Yes i know this lineup has won Gamegune, but Gamegune didn't have the (imo) best teams in the world, the teams they defeated in the finals (x3o, amazing gaming) is not that great teams. They needed to win 1 map in the final versus mouz, they lost the first one and ended up winning the second one in a very close match.

I don't think this is a WHOLE CS HISTORY ranking... if that was the case.. 1.SK 2.mTw 3.MYM 4.fnatic 5.MiBR I think this is a 2007-2008 Ranking. I think MYM should be 5th... I dunno :S Ohh and... once again SK>MiBR! IN YOUR FACE! :D

SK was inactive for almost a year therefore they would have lost a lot of points through the point deduction system

They've won more tournaments than anyone, from 2003 to 2005 they were the best in the world, since 2006 they've been going down and up. And the Line-Up is almost the same everytime, players keep leaving and comming back. P.S: MYM deserves roccat's place

As far as i know, they will only gain points by open events, where all can join, or qualify through.. E-stars as far as i know, was only an invitation/vote, so im pretty sure that dosent count in their rating, and if so.. that sucks pretty hard

Who cares about ranking ? Doesnt really mean anything. Its not like it makes a big diference when the games start. Who ever follows the big tournaments like me, SHOULD know that in Counter-strike you can never really predict which teams are going to finish up first, second and third no matter what the hell are on rankings. Sorry for the english.

Please all whiners understand it's a mathematical based ranking. You are talking about your own preferences and what you think the ranking should be. If you had done the maths explained in the new s of all 2008 tournaments, and come to the conclusion that the ranking is wrong, you would have a point. So until now, none of you had a point

I seriously think MIBR is alot worse after losing the sickhead fnx.. SK have been going up and down, so 3rd place is fine. mTw are fine at #2 they are going for the #1 spot soon! emuLate is abit out of place, they havent really performed well for a long time.. eSTRO on the other hand are sickheads all of them, and really deserve a higher spot! :]

hmm, well these are points rankings, but at-moment-rankings are bit different. 1st should easily go to mTw. fnatic should be rank3, because they have lost every match against mTw and against SK-Gaming of 4-5 matches fnatic is only won 1, in past couple of months. MYM should be rank 4/5..
