Animal Squad win FACEIT Oceania

FACEIT League Stage 3's Oceanic division has come to an end, with Animal Squad qualifying for the season finals, at DreamHack Winter.

While the European and the North American divisions are still ongoing, the Oceanic division came to an end this Sunday, with the final match day featuring an exciting showdown between Renegades and Immunity.

However, neither of the Australian giants will be going to the season finals, at DreamHack Winter, as Animal Squad claimed bragging rights following a four-way tie at the top that also involved fSociety.

Renegades (pictured here) and Immunity left frustrated

Animal Squad, who consist of three Australian and two New Zealander players, beat all teams who finished level on points with them and thus had the best head-to-head record of the quartet.

The team will attend DreamHack Winter, from November 26-28, with the following roster:

Australia Mike "ap0c" Aliferis
Australia Sam "mizu" Richardson
Australia Steve "busta" Brewer
New Zealand Razmik "RaZ" Bastadjan
New Zealand Chris "ofnu" Hanley

Maybe if they had decent qualification systems for big tournaments like this, they'd be more stable. James has it completely backwards.

Clearly you don't know the AU scene... It's always been unstable in terms of people sticking to a core roster besides the top 2 teams.

Clearly you don't understand what I said. The point is that you don't say "we'll do better after your relatively small scene with almost no opportunity is more stable" because that shit doesn't work. You say "we're gonna give you good tournaments so you have incentive for stability."

I agree with you. You need to give people motivation and hope in order to achive what they want, not "demands" and then leave them be.. That's never going to work and James doesn't know it :/

Sure, one time each in BO1s. BO1 upsets happen all the time. Not to mention that they probably focused a lot on them and there was some counter-stratting going on. They also convincingly lost against Exile5 and didn't have it easy against fSociety, two teams they probably didn't research. RNG or Immunity would've had bigger chances in the finals.

I understand that AnimalSquad did work for this spot and I suppose deserve it, but there's no way that they're taking a map from any of the teams in dreamhack. Would've been better for au cs to have Immunity or Renegades playing.

Renegades lost to EZSkins on a hard slump streak. After almost beating VP 2-1, I'd say Renegades stand a much bigger chance taking maps in this Dreamhack.

How many chances does RNG get? They haven't done shit in months, have they even won a match under the Renegades name against EU? I don't think so. Couldn't even beat liquid at DHS. I say let these 'new' guys have a go at the international stage. RNG are quickly becoming irrelevant, everyone knows how to play against them. AUS need a new top team. Cool to see that RNG is not everything that AUS has to offer, imho Immunity is the strongest AUS side, I'm gonna enjoy watching AnimalSquad at Faceit.

Not saying RNG are Au's only hope, but they have a lot more to offer than Animal Squad. Even though we haven't seen much from the team, I doubt they'd be able to take maps off of high tier teams like Renegades did against VP almost making it a 2-1 game and tying games against fnatic and NiP under the vox name.

Cloud9 are a top 12 team... and although they haven't won a lot of the games against top na and eu teams, they have taken a lot of maps and had close games against those teams. Not to mention they tied games with NiP and fnatic a while back under the vox name.

Fair point. But like I said, they've taken maps off of these top 12 teams and cutting games close against them. My point is, Animal-Squad certainly don't stand a chance in this event. AU is better off taking maps off of teams rather than getting thrashed by them. But let's hope they prove me wrong. ;)

Shit system. AUS CS should stop being catered to. Only reason they have their own qualifier is because of the remnants of UK colonialism that are still in play. See FaceIT/Gfinity/ESL.

I'm happy for them and wish them best of luck, however for the life of me do not understand why busta is part of this squad. Maybe he fits a role that others can't, but I can name a dozen players who have a higher skill ceiling. Sorry if you read this busta but you are sort of proof that Australian CS leans more towards "who you know" as opposed to "how good you are".

This is adorable. Did you actually watch the game? He won them about 4-5 rounds solely by his individual plays which included a huge 2v1 in B and a 3k in middle. You can talk about skill ceiling all you want but at the end of the day there are very limited players in AUS (that aren't in a good team already) that can consistently play to their skill ceiling, Busta has played consistently well all season in both FACEIT and CG. He is in a team with 3 of the sharpest players in AUS and one of the best cs minds AUS has ever had, he doesn't need to be a superstar he just does his job and wins them rounds. In other words your whole "who you know" statement is a load of shit and you can go play hide and go fuck yourself. xoxo

I just don't rate him, sorry if that somehow affects you. My point is valid, I'm not the only one who thinks it, even on zewsys stream the other day there were statements by some people (I'm not sure who, don't know their voices) "is busta really div1, really" and I completely agree. As previously mentioned he might fit a role well and not have to be that fragger, but the matches I've seen he hasn't been impressive and bottomed. In fairness to him, I have only watched a handful of games, but this is my opinion on what I've seen.

:) Honestly I'm sick of explaining that i'm not so sometimes it's just easier to go along with it lol And no i'm not trying to impersonate him. I've used this Alias for more than 15 years, most likely he copied me :D

lol Good Point, I can see how retarded that looks now. But no, On the same night I posted that there was stuff going on in other threads that I had actually posted in and people then replying to my posts saying "GL at DHW" etc etc and then when I came into this thread I just posted what is typed above as a chuckle to myself because of what had been going on previous. But yes 'touche' what I typed makes no sense in the context above no that I read it, but I was referring to what happened in other threads ;-)

bs tbh since they had the same amount of wins/loses, a tiebreaker would be nice

honestly if you had the chance to watch this team they are really, really talented Lame way to decide who gets to go to DreamHack but still this team is pretty decent

I agree, they have a lot of talent, but they are too raw. Too many small mistakes that just didn't happen to get punished in these qualifyers, if they pull some that stuff over in stockholm it will get punished very easily

Oceania should be played double-rounded like the other leagues, there's no reason why it isn't. Congrats to AS, will be interesting to see how they do against their first taste of international competition.

That's a fact though. They lost a BO1 with their bad internet and therefore they're a bad team? There is more opportunity to practice vs better teams in NA. Only two teams can challenge RNG as it is now.

good for them tired of seeing Renegades choke. Personally I would have preferred Immunity to win. But nice to see that there are more than 2 teams in AU.

That's just ridiculous, a qualifier for a 250K tournament is being decided by a 4 way tie? What a joke.

Imo, they should have a one day, 4 man tiebreaker. Randomise between Immunity, fS, AS and Renegades with BO3 matches and see who wins.
