moses: "NA scene wildly inconsistent"

HLTV.org held discourse with caster and analyst Jason 'moses' O'Toole on the state of North American Counter-Strike.

The grand final of the iBUYPOWER Cup pitted the crumbling kings of North American Counter-Strike, Cloud9, up against the challenging dynasty that is Team Liquid.

Following each team losing its own map pick convincingly, the two teams locked horns on de_cbble and it was Cloud9 who retained the crown after winning 19-15.

HLTV.org spoke with caster and analyst Jason "moses" O'Toole about this result as well as about the overall condition of the North American scene.

You can find our other interviews from the iBUYPOWER Cup as well as other clips on our Youtube channel here.

We will be back tomorrow with more interviews and coverage from the RGN Pro Series.

In NA different teams being good every week means they're inconsistent, while in EU it's just a more competitive scene. love the logic.

Mmm I agree EU is also inconsistent online but Moses is not really talking about that here. NA is also inconsistent on LAN as you have seen this weekend, in the grand final each team lost its own map pick and the last map could have gone either way. Also C9 was coming from bad performances on LAN this year and won here (domestic LAN true doesn't tell that much) and LG the opposite with a disappointing performance here. So yeah, I'd agree with Moses in this case

I would say EU was pretty inconsistent on Lan as well. Na'vi went from Going to GF of a Major to Getting knocked out of groups by Titan who got 16-1ed. Mouz even beat Na'vi.. so as of late EU has been inconsistent on Lan as well

Gotta agree with you on this point. Lately EU has been inconsistant aswell, but its really sth new and in NA its pretty much the status quo. For over 1 year fnatic has been on top, followed by EnvyUs and VP, last half year TSM stepped up huge and NaVi always got a foot in the door, but the major really made this normally consistant EU level shake up where 3 of the top 4 failed in the quarter finals, which never happened, not even close. Id say tho that its just a temporary thing and the top5 teams will be back to more consistancy in the next major while NA will prolly stick to it.

Eh, You can say the same about Cloud9 and NA who were considered the undisputed number 1 NA team for a long time while teams like LG and CLG would be close contenders. The situations between both the scenes are virtually same now since Teams like liquid (Hiko liquid) and G2 (jakem G2) are now being in those spots to change up the best teams in the scenes. I would go as far to say that the major showed more inconsistency with EU than the IBP LAN with NA when you go off rankings in the scenes. EnvyUS were the only top 4 team to be top 4 at the major while the IBP lan had the expected top 4 teams of NA in the playoffs.

NA TOP5 can win against each other depends on the day. Currently in eu its the same, fnatic dominated for a while and we have 2-4 teams that can win against each other depends on the day.

one big problem is inconsistent but also if they play European teams, its some kind of psychological thing they dont thing they can actually win or are better, we made them really believe they are shit bcoz they are most of the time but still I remember games iBP win vs NiP and c9 also with odler lineups hiko was a beast on first lans in Europe

Most of all that early success was due to Europe having little exposure to the American style of csgo. We are generally more aggressive and peak a lot more so that caught them off guard the first while. Now Europe has just adjusted due to playing us so much.
2015-11-16 12:01

fear or no fear, NA teams dont have the overall skill to beat the likes of fnatic, VP, TSM or EnvyUs on a consistant basis. Thats a fact and wont change soon. C9, Liquid or CLG can all beat them on their best day in a bo1, maybe also in a bo3 if these teams are having a bad day, but in 5 bo3 matches in a row, these EU teams will win 3 or 4 almost certainly. NA teams are gettin more competitive tho, they are closing the gap, especially since LG moved to NA. if they keep growing and might change up some teams to get even better, they could be a serious threat in another year. with current rosters, i only see LG have the overall skill to beat these EU teams.

One of the issues NA teams have too is constant roster changes after a couple bad performances. Just wait and see after ESEA is over what happens among the top teams. Overall NA seems to have a lack of patience with a roster and is quick to blow it up which leads to chemistry issues when playing against teams like VP and fnatic and NiP who've had the same rosters for years. Secondly, NA also scatters its best players across like 3-4 maybe even 5 teams instead of consolidating them into 2 like Sweden or France for example. If you could get NA's top 10 players to actually make 2 teams and not be super emo with each other you would probably see a lot more top 4 finishes at international LANs.

The old glorious 1.6 fnatic had a unique style of play and won everything for years just with one style of play. nowadays its different, is easy to make anti - tactics. Cogu said : Source or Go are more tactic ( dont laugh ) and he was right
