CS:GO Regional Minors announced

Valve have announced four regional "Minor" tournaments in January which will give lesser known teams an opportunity to gain notice as well as act as local qualifiers for the MLG Columbus 2016 official offline qualifier.

Despite MLG Columbus 2016 being several months away, preparation for the event continues to gain traction as four regional "Minors" have now been announced by Valve, with each Minor handled by a different company in terms of production and logistics.

The Minors will be held in January and only involve players who were not Legends or Challengers in the previous CS:GO Major (DreamHack Cluj-Napoca). Each event is billed as featuring high-quality production, in-game-client streaming, and a $50,000 prize-pool.

PGL will host the European Regional Minors

Most importantly, the winner of each Regional Minor Championship will receive an invitation to the offline qualifier for MLG Columbus 2016, about which there is yet no other information.

The regional qualifiers, along with hosting company, will be:

CIS - StarLadder
Europe - PGL
Asia - ESL
Americas - MLG

PGL have already announced the format for the European Regional Minor, and it will include four online qualifiers with 128 teams each. These qualifiers will culminate in an eight team, three day LAN in Bucharest, Romania. More information can be found here as well.

In addition, a majority of players for participating teams must be citizens of countries in the respective regions involved. More information about the Regional Minors is no doubt forthcoming.

It's not discrimination at all. We're part of CIS and in this case, we will play against tier2-5 teams, so yeah. If you don't like something, there is a chance to contact with supports and may then they will change something. For now, I don't see it happening, because only estonians have a chance to face other CIS teams in BO3s. Sadly, but it's a true... P.s I don't see our country winning at least one B01, so it's not gonna affect us at all.

ummm not all members of the former ussr are cis members. Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan are the countries that are currently part of cis.

This is not nice. We'll have 2 australian teams at the major again and more shit american teams while good EU teams will be left out. They should do one LAN where teams from all over the world fight each other to decide the very best for the major: Just like it was done for dreamhack cluj-napoca. The only way they could make it better is to have the best teams of these 4 LANs come to one final LAN where the remaining 8 teams for the major are finally decided. so: (regional online qualifier-> regional LAN qualifiers -> worldwide LAN qualifier)

What? 2 Aus teams? huh? Last major's top8 automatically invited to the next major. While top9-16 will prolly attending the offline qualy, with the 4 winners of the minors + 4 teams TBD how. "regional online qualifier-> regional LAN qualifiers -> worldwide LAN qualifier" they are actually doing that...

Well uhhmm ... korean team almost won against renegades on first map: hltv.org/match/2297038-renegades-myreven.. That was long time ago. Asian teams improved a lot past 5 months. And chinese teams are much better that korean. Tyloo could totally win against Renegades.

AUS was way ahead of Asia because you guys had structured events/leagues way earlier than Asia. China/Korea is still in developing state right now, who knows what kind of potential they might have once their scene is as solid as yours. It will be interesting to see them compete with you in the future.

Thats shitty. We can'r actually go to any other country for the qualifer because we wouldn't be citizens. Both times they try tnis way of qualifers and they excluded australia twice. RNG can't even attend the states one. Rip all the aussie teams that actually hoped to get a shot at qualifying for a major.

I will find a team to win these. I've been practicing my revolver r8 skills for so long (around 3 hours) and I believe I have mastered the art. I am looking for a group of 4 talented support revolvers, to form a team, as my role will be the main revolver. We don't need an IGL because I have the skills (We have enough money for r8 every round (so we will always force-buy), and I don't need to calculate the enemy's current economy each round because I know what they will always buy (hint: r8)). you're almost completely wrong... As this article mentions the minors "will give lesser known teams an opportunity to gain notice". I simply said that these scenes are already nice and developed, compared to regions like those I mentioned previously. This could have been a great opportunity to expand and develop cs in those areas, but all we got was one tournament in Asia, which will most likely just get Renegades more noticed. Where is the need for an EU or CIS minor, let along one for each? Just make a separate qualifier for them, and use these minors for the purpose they themselves stated.

Let's say pronax is making a new team, with lesser known, young talents. His team won't be allowed on this first minor, which is not fair. Same thing goes for allu. They have to wait until the next major passes before they could eventually attend the next minor.
