LGD to expand to CS:GO

LGD Gaming have announced that they will make a foray into competitive Counter-Strike soon.

LGD are one of the most successful esports organisations hailing from China, boasting a League of Legends squad who recently won the LPL Summer Playoffs and attended the World Championship, and a Dota 2 team who finished third at this year's The International.

Looking to capitalise on the recent growth of Counter-Strike in Asia, LGD Gaming have revealed that they are looking to expand to Valve's FPS title, following in the footsteps of two other Chinese heavyweights, EHOME and Vici Gaming, both of whom are also keeping tabs on this scene.

It remains unclear when LGD plan on making a move, but the announcement is further evidence of the untapped potential of the Chinese scene. Next month, the country will be represented at the StarSeries finals, in Belarus, by CyberZen, who beat TyLoo at the national qualifiers.

they're just as nerdy/not nerdy as other regions you idiot. You just don't speak the same language as them so you don't know how "cool/uncool" they are. Also xeqtr and method were racially Asian too, and far from your idea of a "nerd". You listed n0thing as cool, which I agree he is. But imagine if you didn't understand English and you heard his squeaky little voice and saw his face. Of course you'd think he was a nerd. And like the other guy said, even if he was, who gives a fuck, this is professional gaming LOL.

CS 1.6 and especially not GO were/are barely played in PC cafes at all, like the other esports are. Once they get that culture going, it will be a different story. That's the primary reason Korea dominated SC and now League and in China Dota. Korea had literally no scene for 1.6 and still had two top tier teams at different times. China had a slightly bigger scene but still small, and had probably the best team in the world for a year.

according to esports earnings by country, China's made 22 million USD vs. the next highest of 6 million, which was the US, and only due to The International 2015. Sounds like dominance to me.

how about you actually look at the results in the last year instead of looking at total prize money which isnt indicative of anything?

it does matter... It shows which country has had the most dominance throughout a game's history. Where did I say that "dominating" meant having the top team in the world at the moment, or having won a lot of tournaments recently? Similar to how you could say Sweden dominated 1.6 and CSGO. They didn't always have the BEST team or the BEST player, but they always had the most teams and players in the top 5-10 with the most consistent tournament placements and earnings.

your implication is that their culture is what helps them dominate the scene, as far as i'm aware nothing has changed in their culture and they're not dominating the scene anymore. How do you explain that? And again, China never dominated the scene. They won the most prize money but that's because they always had successful runs at ti's. You also have to take into consideration the fact that western teams usually have international rosters so it's disingenuous to look at each country specifically when teams are made up of several players from different countries. And if you look at the stats the vast majority of chinese players made all of that money from one tournament. Doing well in one tournament isn't exactly dominating the scene is it?

I just think you have a different definition of "dominance" than I used it. Historically China has been clearly the dominant power in Dota, similar to Sweden being clearly the dominant power in CS. I don't disagree with your points about prize money not being the ultimate indicator, but it really is one of the best indicators, as there is no ultimate indicator. I could just as easily argue (but I won't) that overall tournament results aren't a good indicator because some are lower stakes and don't have all the best teams all the time. Prize money generally shows who won at the highest stakes events, similar to how international LAN wins are much more impressive than an online wins. I think you're only thinking dominance in terms of the way Korea has dominated Brood War or League of Legends, which is far beyond any level of dominance seen in any other form of competition I've heard of.

prize money would be a good indicator if it weren't for how the international worked. Money won from international literally makes up 99% of most of the chinese players winnings. Korea's dominance over league and starcraft is exactly how you should describe dominance IMO.

Why should Korea's BW/LoL dominance, which is completely one of a kind in any form of competition I've seen, be the standard for the word "dominance"? I'll just agree to disagree.

It just goes to show that Asians starting to play a game does not make them unbeatable. If the west can start dominating a game where the Easterners have dominated for years. Then, they certainly can continue dominating a game they have been dominating for years. And I hope that the rise of the Asia scene will teach NA to start working more on becoming a better region.

no one said Asians were unbeatable either. And I'd say let's wait a few years before we call anyone "dominant" in a game (give Western countries a couple more years in Dota). Dominance to me is a very long-term idea, not 6 months, not 1 year, but at least about 2-3 years. It has to be an "era of dominance" if you will.

If they put a lot of money and effort they can come up with two, maybe three top teams in the top 10 (split between China and South Korea, like it was in i 1.6 with wNv, Lunatic-Hai, project_kr, Hacker, TyLoo, etc). But 'dominate'? No, no chances ma frend.

The OCE scene is surelly there, but the only thing for 2016 in SA is ESEA and... If you follow it, you know it's not looking that good. I hope if anything goes to Asia, it also comes to SA, our teams literally did something because of the community and FalleN, not even big orgs helping too much.

Chinese players are shit, but with $$$ as an incentive they will definitely practice like crazy. Super excited to see how far the Asian scene can reach.

I don't think Chineses teams have so many chances. Cauz there are no official severs in China, and people don't like paying money for buying games, even there are many rich people bought a lot of expensive skins. They prefer to play free MOBA games, such as DOTA2 or LoL. The situation in China now, there is a game which called Cross Fire, it is dominating the Chinese FPS games even it is a stupid game. I'm a Chinese, and I just want to say they have to spend at least 2 years on practicing and learning, then we will see the results.
