Astralis discuss offers, salaries

In an interview for Astralis.gg, Nicolai "device" Reedtz and Andreas "Xyp9x" Højsleth discuss the offers they received after leaving TSM, and their current salaries.

In the announcement of the creation of Astralis it was made clear that the new organization would endorse players explicitly discussing their salaries and overall financial situation.

The average salary of Astralis over 2016 will reach around $9,000 per month

Astralis has just released an interview with two of their players, Andreas "Xyp9x" Højsleth and Nicolai "device" Reedtz, to ask about the offers they have received during their time without an organization, as well as their salaries for 2016 and more.

"We received a lot of crazy offers in the off-season, and if I remember correctly the biggest offer was around $10,000 dollar salary with a very high signing bonus and the possibility of revenue share after being in the organization for a few years. Also obviously 100% prize- and sticker money." Reedtz said in the interview.

While it will apparently take some time to reach such an amount with their freshly created organization, the average salary over 2016 will be quite similar, about $9,000 per month, according to Xyp9x:

"All the players are paid $9,000 per month. This is a monthly average during the next 12 months. We actually start out a bit lower and end up a bit higher due to salary increases over the year."

The two players also answered questions about their reasoning behind creating a new organization, why transparency is important to them, and differences between their previous organizations and the current one.

$9k per month for all players. $1.8k for each player every month. Still quite a lot of money considering they can also make money from tournaments, stickers and autographes.

Good question thought the same but they they wrote it actually means its 9k for all 5 players which is around $1600 per player a month which is not a lot in certain parts of the world like canada for instance. I personally pay around $800 a month only cause ive been leaving at my place for around 10 years now but since im moving out this summer and i still want a clean cute place it might jump to 1k a month just for rent but of course it depends on people and how lucky you are finding something cheap that eill also be nice and clean but not sure about denmark. I guiss since some of them still live with their parents i guess its a lot of money just for one person unless their parents ask for a share for living :)

100 percent prize money and sticker money? Plus it's not like they're completely broke and they only have that 1.8k to live off of. They have plenty of money to start with and the 1.8k will help sustain them. I'm pretty sure they have a gaming house too. If it does end up being 9k each then ima kill myself

As I understood it's 9k each. But even if it's 1.6k>sauce each, it still doesn't include sticker and prize money, so they would still earn well above average. Plus, it's their own orga, so value of it will increase over time (if it doesn't close).

Do u seriously think a millionaire investor cares about the 100k$ prize pot a tournamend could have? Their target are the mass, the fanbase. They are millionaire investors, their target is the market like every other org. An org nowadays doesn't make their revenue from prizes lmfao

yes and just investing in a team because of a fan base is kinda stupid isnt it? this world is about money. thats what investments is for. MAKEING SOMETHING OUT IF IT. what this guy did is burning about 108k dollar on a year and getting nothing in return. except a team that will choke on lan. argue how much u want i wont change my opinion.

Ofc it is about making money, that's why they invested and that's what they gonna do. But they won't make money from tournament prizes u dumbfuck, that's not their main goal and the prize money nowadays 100% goes to the players pocket.

It was since they signed their contracts with Kinguin. After that G2 got the team with sponsorship by Kinguin. In statement kinguin as their ex organisation said that the contracts are resigned with the same "rules". So I assume the that includes the same salary.

It's you and me who are just playing the game. They train everyday to be among the best in the world, they have to be in good shape no matter what when it comes to a tournament. + constant travels make their job much harder. Travelling for LANs is not as much fun as many think. So don't say that they are just playing the game.

I see people throwing out all these random numbers when talking about what players earn from sticker money. It's clear that no one really knows how much they actually make.

i mean just do the math yourself. valve said 9 million went to players/orgs this year. ex-tsm are one of the more popular teams so they'll obviously get a larger cut than the average team but we'll just imagine a scenario where everybody gets an equal cut. so 9 million/16 = 562500 from sticker money for the team. we know that the players get to keep all the sticker money so that's 112500 per player from sticker money alone. for prize pool you can do the same thing. ex-tsm made 500k from tournaments. that's 100k per player. so add them both together and you have over 200k from stickers/prize money now go fuck yourself

That has definitely doubled or even tripled since csgo has almost quadrupled the player base since then and events get 3 times the unique viewers from late 2014 to now

I tought about that and I don't think that that money is enough if they invested own money, ofc I hope that the 9k are real, but meh, I'm not convinced. On the other hand it's obvious that most teams don't give their players enough money (too many sharks in the esports industry, the mTw Manager was the best example)

They are being backed by a legitimate multi-millionaire (he is know for backing young innovative projects) and another investment company who does the same. This is not some scam person, he is well known and respected within the danish investment business. There are sharks, but for most organizations it is all about having income > expenses. You don't think it is enough? They will have an income that far exceeds 200.000 USD a year. That's A LOT more than I make working a full time job as a project manager with a lot more responsibility and running projects in the millions.

Nah, stuff is more serious and professional right now. Talking about CSGO or LoL nowadays is just like talking about football or basketball. There are already established markets, bet houses, etc If somehting in that way happens, I predict it to happen way way later, not 1 or 2 years from now, but atleast a couple of large years. Even if that happens, it will be mostly the same (improved) game.

Chill guys. Now its been said many times that it's a great salary, and it is. However, this is their salary before taxes. Taxes on income in Denmark is huge. With their base salary, they'll have to pay 56% taxes. That leaves the salary at $3960, which is slightly above the average Danish income. Sure, add sponsorships, prize and sticker money, they'll do fine.

Income is calculated BEFORE taxes and the average income in Denmark is around 38.850 DKK (5.674 $) They get 61.614 DKK (9.000$). That's allready 58% higher than the average wage. Add to that their 470.000 $ in winnings, and maybe 100.000 $ in sticker money, bonuses and streaming money, and you are way way beyond the average income.

We actually start out a bit lower and end up a bit higher due to salary increases over the year. implying that $9k a month is the starting salary/low point and that the salary will increase over the year.

In the old days the football players got paid so little many of them had to have a full time job in the off season. Took a very long time before pro sports athletes actually started getting rich. Esports is growing much faster.

Stop eating poop. There are top doctors paid 10 000 euro a month. A Marketing manager in NY can earn up to 120 000$ a year. A cs go player cannot earn the same amount of money. The company does not have that amount of money to throw away. The company would have to pay 50 000 euro after tax... including tax, depending on country could vary... Am guessing it would be around 75 000 euro a month... So you have to cover that cost AND MAKE SOME MONEY! I would really like to see the annexe of the contract where it specifies their pay.

Most people don't know how sports work. How do you think they can afford to give some baseball players 120 million dollar contract. Because they pull in money for the org. People buy their jerseys and other products. Some pro sports teams have never made it to the finals but still pay their players millions per year. The worst NFL team out there could have the highest payed player.

You see those logos on their shirts? - money. Intel, benq, Western Digital just to name a few. There is a whole business built around exposure of those brands to MASS Viewers during tournaments. That's just a quick thought.

First of all, congrats to them - they are some of the nicest guys on the stage and I wish them only the best. Altho' its a nice salary, people seem to forget the amount of time and sacrifies, that goes into being a topplayer. The average dane works 37 hours a week, so if you need to comepare payment, please keep in mind that a CSGO player is more likely to use 100+ hours a week on this. Further more, most of them (not talking about Astralis in particular), is set with a short termed job, that isnt making them anywhere near enough to last for ever. Living the dream, sure! But at a great expense and sacrifies.
