SK Gaming heading to Cologne
SK Gaming will represent Sweden in the World Cyber Games 2008 Grand Finals.
The Swedish WCG qualifiers took place over the weekend at Dreamhack Skellefteå. After an intense weekend at one of the world's largest and most famous LAN events, Dreamhack, SK Gaming have managed to seal themselves a place in this year's WCG Finals.
The tournament was one of the closest competitions we’ve seen in a long time. With the likes of fnatic, SK Gaming, Begrip, Blank and the champions of the parallel CS1.6 tournament held at Dreamhack Skellefteå, Evilzone, it promised to be exciting. It began in a group stage format, consisting of 8 teams and saw SK Gaming, fnatic, Begip and Blank all progressing to the single elimination knock-out stage. A full list of teams, including results and brackets, can all be found here.
The finalists saw SK Gaming and Blank come head to head in what can only be described as one of the most thrilling, entertaining and nail-biting matches in a very long time. The paths of both teams to the final follows:
[opponents,244, 69, 6]
[opponents,244, 221, 6]
All 3 maps were needed to decide this one and every map was a close call. However, it was not to be Blank’s day as SK Gaming, who fought bravely throughout the tournament, were able to gain the upper edge and take the only Swedish berth to the WCG Finals which are to be held in Cologne, Germany between November 5th – 9th.
Demos from the event can be found here.
