G2 top F3; earn a major spot

The second day of MLG Columbus 2016 Main Qualifier continued with G2 topping FlipSid3 for a spot at the major (16-14 on de_inferno).

Both teams secured their opening matches with a 16-13 score, FlipSid3 against the American crew Selfless and G2 against the up and coming Brazilian squad Tempo Storm.

FlipSid3 started on the CT-side and tried to stop the A-push but were not successful in their effort. Adil "⁠ScreaM⁠" Benrlitom almost managed to pull of a 1v3 on the first gun round but the veteran Yegor "⁠markeloff⁠" Markelov picked up the kill on ScreaM to put his team on the scoreboard. F3 secured the following three rounds as well, losing only one player in this stretch (4-3).

RpK boosts his team to the major with 30 kills

Andrey "⁠B1ad3⁠" Gorodenskiy's triple kill was not enough in the eight round as Kévin "⁠Ex6TenZ⁠" Droolans & company tied it at 4-4 and afterwards clinched the lead (5-4). Georgi "⁠WorldEdit⁠" Yaskin stepped up to earn his team four more rounds and the CIS team were ahead 8-7 at halftime.

FlipSid3 rushed the B-site in the second pistol round, failing to plant the bomb and losing the round. Just like the first half, F3 grabbed the second gun round and markeloff's 1v2 in the ensuing round tied it at 10-10. B1ad3's team had a four round streak to get 12-10 ahead but G2 got back in it with Cédric "⁠RpK⁠" Guipouy carrying the load (12-12). The French-Belgian team closed it out 16-14 with Ex6TenZ's 1v2.

I think they play too much yolo, like shox and smithzz played back in envy, they need to get a little more organized and they could be top5 contender for sure

Yeah hopefully ex6tenz will get them some anti-strats or just some defaults for the major and they can run a hybrid style where they can do whatever fits in the current round.

agree. on ct side he is always well positioned, gets a kill and when under pressure he just runs in,takes the fight and gets another quick kill to give his team the advantage. dont see that very often

G2 plays much better and has good teamwork versus the better teams. F3 and TS is an unknown factor for them and using one tournament is a terrible sample size. As they have had good matches and Lan results as well. They have showed they can compete with better teams. If you think they don't have a chance at the major before the groups are drawn and known. You might be delusional G2 has improved a lot and have a chance depending on who they get in their group.

Dude, I just think G2 is a boring team, they are together for long time and can't even beat top teams. They have no hype in big tournaments. They lose when they are expect to win. I would give a last chance for F3, but I'm 100% with brazilian boys to get the other spot. I think they can do better than G2 like their other Brazilian brothers.

They match up well against Astralis which is a top team. Can have close games vs Navi on LAN. Fnatic usually wins but I think G2 has gotten a map a few times. EnvyUs they usually struggle against. Although they rarely play so that's important to note. Both F3 and Tempo had a great chance to upset G2 and didn't Not all teams are destined to make it out of groups. Flipside has failed a lot in majors so I don't know why you'd want them.

Where are all the RpK haters now? :) Awesome to see the tank back. I doubt they can win the major, but i see them reaching semi-finals if shox and scream step it up. Smithzz is a consistent awper. Hes not the flashy type which isnt needed in a team with so many stars anyway. best of luck!!
