CPH Games 2016 viewer's guide

Copenhagen Games 2016 is less than a day away, and, here, we assembled all the information you need including the schedule, the talent list, the attending teams and more.

Last year in the Øksnehallen exhibition centre, Virtus.pro were crowned champions and took home €14,000. This year, in the capital of Denmark, more than 60 teams will be playing for their share of the €30,000 prize pool, with the champions taking home €17,000.

Different from the last edition, Copenhagen Games 2016's main tournament will feature 16 teams as opposed to last year's 32. Eight invited teams will face the top eight teams coming from the on-site qualifiers.

dignitas will go into the tournament as the highest ranked team

Sixty teams split into groups of four will try to finish in the top two of their groups and then advance to the playoff stage, where they will have to win two best-of-three series in order to qualify. Due to a knockout format, losing a playoff series will mean exiting the tournament. The full list of teams and the groups of the qualifier can be found here.

Dignitas are the highest ranked team, according to our rankings, that will attend the tournament. YP were one of the invited teams, but they experienced visa issues and had to be replaced by RCTIC. The complete list of invited teams can be found below:

Denmark Dignitas Denmark SK Finland ENCE  Bulgaria E-frag.net
Germany ALTERNATE aTTaX  Slovakia HellRaisers  Finland RCTIC Denmark CPH Wolves

The main tournament will start with 16 teams split into groups of four, in which the matches will be best-of-one. Winners and the runner ups from the GSL groups will advance to the single elimination playoffs. These matches will be played as best-of-threes except the grand final which will have a best-of-five format. The four stages of the tournament look as follows:

  • Qualifier - GSL - Groupstage - BO1 - (Open quals. with 60 teams)
  • Qualifier - Playoffs – Single elimination – BO3 – (Top 8 teams qualify for the main tournament)
  • Main Tournament - GSL - Groupstage - BO1 (8 invited teams and 8 qualified)
  • Main Tournament - Playoffs - Single elimination - BO3

The casters that will be on duty in Copenhagen comprise:

Finland Joona "natu" Leppänen

My scene is trash? At least I don't have to pretend to be EU to act like I have a scene. Last I checked, NA is in the major, what about your scene? Oh that's right.... No team from uk scene could beat any pro team in NA scene. We can actually compete with EU, unlike you. Delusional crumpet.

lol delusional mad burger who can't accept his scene is complete trash. at least i can admit UK scene is shit, but burgers need to argue and argue about who NA isn't bad when its fucking trash compared to mediocre EU teams. you just sit there and be delusional like a good murican. 0 braincells to be found

It's a shame CPH Games hasn't been keeping with the times lately with the prize pools, a lot of memories come from them. Well to look at the bright side, it gives opportunities to young talents ;)
