threat replaces pyth at MLG Major

Ninjas in Pyjamas have announced that Björn "THREAT" Pers will play for the team at the MLG Columbus Major as a stand-in due to visa problems from Jacob "pyth" Mourujärvi.

For over a month now, NiP have been trying to secure a visa permit for Jacob "⁠pyth⁠" Mourujärvi, but successive requests from the U.S. embassy in Stockholm have made it impossible for the player to be able to travel before Tuesday.

NiP's other players, as well as team coach Björn "⁠THREAT⁠" Pers, are already flying to Columbus, and it will be the 27-year-old, formerly of Team Acer, filling in for pyth in the tournament.

The Swedish team and MLG have been in talks over the last week with a view to finding a solution to the problem. NiP have proposed that THREAT plays for the team until pyth is able to travel, but HLTV.org knows that Valve and MLG are unwilling to accept this suggestion, claiming that a roster cannot be changed halfway through the Major.

This means that, even if pyth manages to get a visa permit and arrives in Columbus before Wednesday's matches, he will most likely only act as a coach for the team at the event.

Since Sweden is part of the Visa Waiver Program, its citizens are able to travel to the United States without a visa. This most likely means that pyth experienced problems during his previous stay in the country, while playing for Luminosity.

THREAT enjoyed remarkable success in the 1.6 scene between 2010 and 2012, when he played for teams like fnatic, Lions and WinFakt. After a short stint in Team Acer in 2015, he moved to Japan to continue his studies, returning to the scene in January to coach NiP.

The Swedish team, who will face FlipSid3 Tactics in the first group round in Columbus, will attend the Major with:

Plebeians don't exist as a social entity anymore. Not for about 1,600 years. I did not read the entire article. I had read another that indicated only the first round. Also, if you actually read sweden.usembassy.gov/consulate/n2.html You'll see that Swedish players don't have to register for a visa. This talk about trying for a month is bogus. Let me quote: "You do not need a visa if: You are a citizen of Sweden and you have a Swedish passport and; Your passport is machine-readable and; You have never been charged with or convicted of a crime in any country " Is it possible that Pyth has been charged with a crime? If so, that would explain his problems.

That's why I never said he needs to be the lynchpin, his ability to call in game will help more than pyths potential impact if it is truely what has helped NiP online. Obv he would be calling if he was behind them but I think NiP and threat will be more driven like this. I will totally disagree. Guys, it's COMPUTER GAME, it's not like football or basketball which are all about teamplay, endurance and PURE personal skill (tricks, solo playes, ability to "defeat opponent"). In CS:GO there is HUGE factor of "xgood and bad" timing and luck. Yea, luck. Another huge thing is knowledge of opponents playstyle, tactics and thats what Threat's part of job is. Utilizing it actually IN-GAME is even better for a team. Btw. Threat isn't as skillfull as rest of team, but as I said- its not all about personal skill. It's not matchmaking or solo pug. Get your shit straight guys. Dont prejudge and wish NiP all the best ;) Threat WILL rek them.

Yeah, they do need a work visa, since it envolves getting paid and stuff. But apparently there's new info and it's like, when dw and pyth left winterfox, they did it like, when they were supposed to come back to US to play, they put wrong answers on the work permit so it was denied and they couldn't come back (and then used it as an excuse to leave the team lel); now this is bitting him the ass :V

You don't need a visa to go to USA as a tourist if you're Sweedish, its true. BUT, if its a work permit (or whatever it's called) it works differently , you can for x amount of months and then you need to come back and then renew it after some time. He used his time at winterfox and he doenst have the "work visa" available again yet. Why can he not just go as a tourist and then play I have no idea...

+ NiP's main problems has always been tactics and plays. Aim duells are not a problem for them now since Xist is releaved of IGLing and f0rest, GT and friberg have been on point lately. These roster rules that Valve have in place for minors/majors are kinda stupid. I thought that the education in The Netherlands was pretty good, but whatever. And yes, it's pretty unfair that he can't participate but he shouldn't have fucked up his visa in the first place and who knows, Threat may be an actual threat.

The education in the netherlands is indeed good and as far as i know my english is good enough too understand which is all that matters to me. You can check my age on my profile, but whatever your age is your acting like a 12-year old if you call people on the internet autist. But thats is just my opnion. I dont think threat will be able to peform nearly as good pyth would do, he may be an old 1.6 legend but so was HeatoN, and seeing him play on nip this days would be a joke as well. Also i think THREAT's strategic part is gonna be worse because now he also has to play at the same time which is very difficult.

This what i think nip needed all along. Threat calling where as xizt playing freestyle, f0rest awping and aggressive picker, gtr support role, friberg as entry fragger and full defensive play at small sites alone. Don't forget that threat in the past few weeks worked his ass off for nip lineup to appoint different roles for players to set themselves as a team. Pyth was an aggressive player who played his own style to fit in the lineup.

Even if you're a citizen of a country that doesn't require a visa, you must still apply for authority to travel. Most people will receive an immediate response, which will allow them to travel at any time over the forthcoming months (or at least until the authority expires). For others, even with that visa waiver, there can prove to be more of an issue. allowing 6 or 7 man rosters could alleviate some of this nonsense. 5 man strict cut offs is not good for this as a competitive scene. In team sports, if you are injured or late to arrive or just having a bad day, you can be replaced with another from the roster. Seems like CS might need this? Players can only be on one roster still. Changes between maps only. Allow map specialized players, relieve the load on the main 5 etc.

Exactly. I think they can really get notable results anyway. Of course pyth is more experienced in game mechanics and so on, but THREAT is an absolute legend when it comes to reading the enemy and advancing to them, so if he's put on a stable spot where he can do what he needs, they have a chance to win the tournament anyway. I'm thinking specifically of ESL One Cologne where both Xizt and Fifflaren had a very low amount of frags, but were still a huge part for the team. This is what I think THREAT can do.

NaVi is in my opinion the best strategic team in CSGO so its gonna be rough for NiP to beat them, even with Pyth. However NiP will play without pressure because they already achieved their goal for MLG, (atleast they say so). So that will playout in favor for them, and its definitely possible for NiP to beat NaVi but if they should manage to its gonna be one hell of a brawl.
