Na`Vi beat Astralis; to Major final

Natus Vincere are the first MLG Columbus grand finalists as they have just came out on top of their semi-final versus Astralis 2-0 (de_inferno 16-14, de_dust2 16-5).

Day five at MLG Columbus continued with the first semi-final between Astralis and Natus Vincere, starting on the former's pick, de_inferno. It was the latter who kicked it off the better however, as they got up to 5-0 after the pistol and the first gunround, where they conserved grenades to force the Danes on a low timer.

Two perfect A executes worked out well for the Astralis squad, who picked up their third and fourth round once they delivered a fake based on the previous strategy. A triple by Nicolai "device" Reedtz pushed it to an even 5-5 before Egor "flamie" Vasilyev and Ioann "Edward" Sukhariev regained the lead after winning a 3-on-5 situation.

Ladislav "GuardiaN" Kovács kept getting shut down by the opposing AWPer however, which helped the Danish lineup push it to 8-6 in their favor before a strong defence on the B bombsite gave Na`Vi the last round.

The beginning of the second half saw a similar start play out, as Natus Vincere got five out of six rounds much thanks to GuardiaN's clutch triple. A clean defence on A and a 3-on-3 retake on B helped Astralis claw it back to 12-11, but more great play from Edward meant his team would go on to take the 14th round.

Edward put in a monstrous performance on Inferno

Three rounds in a row for Astralis made it seem like they'd be able to take match point first, but a buy worth of only a single rifle somehow worked out for the CIS-based squad, who pushed on to take map one for 16-14.

Denis "seized" Kostin kicked off Dust2 with a triple in a rush on short for 3-0 in his team's favor. Natus Vincere put on an unexpected tempo as they started with a few quick executes, surprising Astralis and taking it to 6-0.

GuardiaN and Edward denied Astralis the first real chance at a round win with a couple of doubles, and not even a timeout seemed to have worked as the last major's runner-ups made it 8-0.

Finally three rounds in a row went the Danes' way, but a crucial mistake by René "cajunb" Borg, who peeked in the last second, threw away a round, setting off another streak by Natus Vincere.

This time it wasn't stopped, even despite close situations, and the score soon showed 12-3 at halftime, at which point Astralis were staring down the barrel. Losing the pistol round didn't help things, but losing to a forcebuy after just winning one added insult to injury, as Natus Vincere took it 16-5 in the end to make it to the grand final.

Astralis win over fnatic was a fluke, it's a shame how often they fall short when it matters most... especially for fnatic in this case

If you cam to this conclusion using chain logic then don't even bother. Astralis outplayed Fnatic the same way Na'Vi outplayed Astralis today. Na'VI use fast plays (something which they never do) because they knew that Astralis don't know how to handle them. That's about it.

Where's the chain logic?... They got rekt by NiP last time and now by NaVi, nothing new here, typical astralis losing all the big events

I said IF. From what I could understand you said that it sucks for Fnatic that they've lost so bad to Astralis who then lost in such bad manner to Na'Vi. That's chain logic.

Well u did use Chain Logic saying it was a fluke that they beat Fnatic. As Zadro said Astralis out played Fnatic and then Navi out played Astralis. Nothing more to say.

ugh there is such a thing that is called making assessments... its not that astralis beat fnatic that often beat navi then it means astralis should beat navi, it's that astralis showed great form and made all the right decisions yesterday vs fnatic but playing navi they played far worse which is typical of them

Well those "assessments" of yours sounded a lot like chain logic to me. And yes ofc they played worse against navi. Which is a shame but still. Its 2 completely different teams. In terms of strats and play style. And the fact that Astralis could beat Fnatic is no surprise they've done it quite a lot in 2015, During the summer ( i think it was ) where they had a great run winning a couple of tournaments.
2016-04-02 23:43

no, what's a shame for fnatic is that they couldn't manage a high level in the first stages of the tournament.

that too, would've loved to see NaVi playing fnatic, then again if fnatic would've won again it would be quite dissapointing... in the end of the day NaVi vs LG final is a great match up

I can't help but think that if Astralis had been playing Liquid or Luminosity they would have likely been in the final. But Lumi and Astralis are probably playing the same level of CS GO right now and a final between Luminosity and Na´Vi is not bad at all. I agree that yet another fnatic final would have been boring. It's nice to see other teams get their moment in the spotlight.

Was I the only one hoping that Na'Vi would take a timeout at the end of that Dust 2 game so they could do what Astralis did to fnatic.

Why would they? Astralis dont disrespect them. On the contrary.
2016-04-02 23:27

Astralis did that to Fnatic because Fnatic disrespected Astralis. Astralis and Na'Vi had no issues and if they called the timeout, that would be worse than what Astralis did to Fnatic.

I think the main reason Astralis took that timeout was not to spite fnatic, but to simply calm their nerves a bit, which karrigan also stated was part of the reason.

Although I'm a Na`Vi fan, I feel really sad about that ex-disnitas/ex-TSM usual choke. Luminosity to defeat Na`Vi like at SLTV XIV or IEM Katowice. P.S. Why? Because I'm tired of feeling disappointed after my beloved G2 and Na`Vi fail vs fnatic, Luminosity, EnVyUs or whomever else, so I expect the worst just to be glad to be mistaken in the end.

Man, Na'Vi with GuardiaN off means that the major gonna be ez for LG. No matter how much Edward, Flamie or Seized carries, LG got enough players to counter it. No GuardiaN = no win over LG.

People say that Astralis choked, but don't forget that NaVi were small favorites before the game started. Furthermore, NaVi was not behind throughtout the game, except for that one moment when Astralis was leading 8-7 on Inferno. Sure, device made a mistake with the no-scope, but he was low on health and could have died anyway. Sure, cajunb made a mistake on dust2 long, but Astralis only had 3 rounds at that point and it was unlikely that they had won the map anyway. NaVi played a very solid dust2 and Astralis never looked comfortable. So in short: Astralis did not "choke". They simply lost to a better team.

The thing is on this level you have to create opportunities out of nowhere in order to have an edge, Astralis instead wasted even those chances given to them by Na'Vi. That is called a choke basically.

In my mind a choke is when you're favorites to win or you have a big lead and you don't take advantage. Astralis may have "choked" in certain stand-alone situations during the game, but seeing over the course of the full game I wouldn't describe their performance as "choking" because of the reasons in my previous comment.
