Adam Apicella: "Absolutely more CS"

HLTV.org talked to Adam Apicella, Senior Director of events at Activision Blizzard Media, to provide a larger context for the MLG Columbus Major and to talk about various challenges that come with hosting arena events.

The fifth day of the MLG Columbus Major has seen its quarter-final play out, with Luminosity advancing over Virtus.pro and a semifinal currently playing out between Natus Vincere and Astralis.

HLTV.org sat down with Adam Apicella, the often praised Senior Director of the event, to get an understanding of his methodology behind running such a large scale event and to provide some information on various issues that have arisen since the Major started.

1. Desk looks like something from 2013. Looks awful. IEM and StarLadder did it way better. 2. Stage sucks. Single player game? Team mates sitting on other side of the arena. 3. Boring breaks. No original content except valve's pre made videos. 5 min countdown again? Jeez. 4. Worst camera control of any event. 5. Probably not soundproof. The only good things are the upsets.

hmm not really Huge disadvantage to LG/VP forcing them to play 2 bo3s in the same day + making it impossible to prepare for semis + Liquid/CLG will know all their tatics because they will be obviously watching the match. Disappointed with MLG.

idk about video quality, maybe it's the lighting in that room and there's an explanation for the cut-off on Youtube the camera basically dies around 12 minutes and Lucas wasn't timing it correctly He said "100% more cs" Then I asked him a classic me question: "leg day or skip?" and he said "for sure leg day"

I'm very surprised that MLG didn't keep the booths for this event, it's the greatest event they could have hoped to host and they don't use the booths they used for minor events like Aspen, that's weird. His explanation sounds a bit counter-intuitive, especially since the players seem to prefer the booths, and not only in CS. I think they should ask the opinion of the players for this, they're the ones who're the most affected by it.

Huh? They were allowed to use booths in other tournaments such as Aspen. Maybe it's the Ohio regulations, but in which case it sucks that they chose this state for the major.

I now actually prefer seeing no booths. S1mple interacting with the crowd having an real impact on the game and more close-up views of the players.
