PGL announce Oceania qualifier

PGL have announced that they will hold an Oceania qualifier for the PGL KeSPA Regional Minor Championship Asia.

The news comes following the community backlash after it was revealed that the teams located in the Oceania region would have to compete in the qualifiers that would be played in the Asian servers, which meant that these teams would have to play with inferior pings.

PGL adressed the problem by creating a new qualifier that is exclusive to the Oceanian teams. The new qualifier will take place from April 19-21 and the winning team will acquire a slot to the Asia Minor.

Immunity along with others will get their own qualifier

It was disclosed that the teams that registered to the Asia qualifier will be moved to the new one. PGL KeSPA Regional Minor Championship Asia will have to have an updated slot distribution with this new qualifier coming into light and PGL is expected to unveil it tomorrow.

SoStronk will be hosting the Oceania qualifiers and the tournament will be open up to 64 teams. The single elimination best-of-one format will be in effect until the semi-finals and the final which will have a best-of-three format.

I could list all the achievements of Renegades/Vox and Team Immunity but I really do not need to, the biggest achievement our region has accomplished was getting noticed in the first place and getting ourselves to a point where people like you are actually talking about our scene.

I agree that TyLoo and Cyberzen are the best teams in Asia at the moment, I just think the hate towards the Australian CS:GO community was uncalled for. If we can't get our own qualifier then at least give us more than 3 days notice in order to book flights, shit is ridiculous. Sure the Oceanic community may have overreacted but I put most of that down to how passionate we are.

Don't think there was any overreaction. It was warranted. The Oceanic scene is much more vibrant than that from Korea. Anybody with a clue about CS knows that. I'm all for expanding the Asian CS:GO Scene, but the Minors are still very young in their development. Sometime in the future, I'd like to see a few more spread over more domestic scenes :)

Every year the Asians have a chance and how does that pan out, sure we may not have success overseas but so hasn't any other team from Asia/Oceania. Plus every year we only get 1 spot anyway. The Oceaniac scene might be dog but it's a hell of a lot better than every other team except for CZ and tyloo. Korea gets 2 spots and the top 2 Korean teams can't even we domestically. Every Asian qualifier only has 1 oceanic seed and renegades.

I understand you're point of view but the fact of the matter is, down here in the pile of shit cs there still is a ranking. It doesn't matter if we do shit all internationally it still matters here. Also how will you know someone might upset. It happened with Luminosity, brazil had like the worst scene they just got 16-0d then they suddenly became a top 3 team. It's unpredictable, no matter how unlikely it is. Also no one cares if Korea has 2 slots, Oceania has the best results internationally and we didn't receive a single spot. No shit we have to whinge about it. Sometimes I do wonder why this argument keeps coming up. Just because the team is currently living in LA for organisational purposes doesn't mean Valve sees them as a NA team. They still have passports for Australia, which means they are still having to qualify through the Asian Minor. 5 days notice for the biggest qualifiers of the year for Asian teams isn't ideal. A bunch of teams like MVP.Karnal can't make it because the qualifier is during working hours on week days.
