Ryan 'freakazoid' Abadir, who has been a part of Cloud9 since being signed in April 2015, has left the team's active roster.

Since being signed in April of 2015 alongside Tyler "⁠Skadoodle⁠" Latham, Ryan "⁠freakazoid⁠" Abadir was part of Cloud9's rise to prominence during the team's memorable Summer 2015 run that included reaching the grand finals of the ESL ESEA Pro League Season 1 finals, ESWC 2015, and the FACEIT Stage 2 finals at DreamHack Valencia.

The North American wonder-team entered a prolonged slump in the fall of 2015, which ultimately led to longtime brains of the team Sean "⁠seang@res⁠" Gares stepping down and the team enlisting Jake "⁠Stewie2K⁠" Yip instead.

freakazoid's final months with Cloud9 were a struggle for both the player and the team

In their appearances in 2016, Cloud9 seemed dogged by leadership issues and had a weak T-side in particular, leading to a below-the-belt finish at the Game Show Finals and, following a successful Major qualification campaign, the team were stomped out of the Major after two convincing best-of-one losses.

freakazoid himself ran afoul of controversy when, following an online altercation with Liquid's Oleksandr "⁠s1mple⁠" Kostyliev, the Cloud9 organisation were forced to issue a statement with the player's apology, in addition to a pay cut for the month and attendance of the by-now-infamous seminar.

After middling results, the Cloud9 organisation have now announced that freakazoid has stepped down from the team's active roster although he will remain under contract for the rest of 2016, implying a buyout will be necessary for organisations looking to secure the services of the player.

While Cloud9 will search for a permanent fifth, they have meanwhile decided to use Eric "⁠adreN⁠" Hoag as a stand-in, who recently saw an upswing in play occur when he concluded his days at Team Liquid whilst playing at the MLG Columbus Main Qualifier and Major.

Difference is that Liquid doesn't suck anymore. Therefore it's not as easy to be the starplayer on the team. Nitro is playing worse than normally, yes, but not that much. He just plays more for the team than the individual plays now.

Ye, I also think the team kind of let down on him. The last games of the major when they failed on D2 the whole team was underperforming. You could see them arguing as they tried to take long A and everytime Freaks teammates missed their flash leaving him blind and with barely any support. Sad too see him go, he was the reason I became a C9 fan (still a fan, but not the same without freak) :'(

lol this roster without freak will fail just as bad. Freakazoid was not the problem. He had good aim and was a decent entry fragger, basically he played his role. If the other players on the team stepped up and played their role aswell we wouldnt have a problem. n0thing sucks at IGL and sucks at lurking. Skadoodle is not an aggressive awper making plays he relied on sean putting him in position to be effective. Shroud is non existent when it comes to important games lately barely has any impact and steiwe2k is a pugstar. This team is a train wreck...Best of luck to freak.

Sure he is knowledgeable about the game but he never managed to rub that off on his team judging from his past with liquid. Liquid was never known for tactics or crazy executes. And also the key to cloud9's succes was basically anti stratting and not being anti stratted themself. i dont ever think they will break into the top10 again with n0thing AND stewie on the team. roca, shroud and skadoodle on one team would be insane though that might be able to produce some decent results

I totally agree with the fact that it never managed to rub off onto the team but there's always possibilities with different players that are willing to listen more. I think once Stewie is able to go out free and get more experience then it wouldn't be that bad. As for N0thing... He's pretty much a lost soul right now.

C9's roster changes are retarded. They could have signed a new IGL back when sean left but instead they got some gimmicky retard. It took them long enough to realise that this doesn't work and now they want an IGL again. To make room for one they had to kick a player. So who they decide to bench? This is a mistake, hopefully Freak had a say in this decision and it was mutual. C9 are battling with n0thing as IGL, and Ska clearly isn't his usual self. Freak was likely the most motivated in the team. Their LAN performances are troubling. SG@res is a legend, hopefully he ends up at EchoFox. C9 need a full time coach who can call asap. Stewie sucked bad at MLG.
