ESL have announced that this year's ESL One New York event, taking place in Brooklyn's Barclays Center from October 1-2, will feature a CS:GO tournament with $250,000 on the line.

The 15,000+ seater arena Barclays Center situated in Brooklyn, New York, home of NHL's New York Islanders, will play host to this year's ESL One New York, which will for the first time feature CS:GO amongst the games.

According to the announcement, eight of the world's best teams will battle it out for the $250,000 prize purse in "East Coast's biggest esports event".

Barclays Center will play host to ESL One New York

ESL have also revealed the format of the tournament, which will feature double-elimination groups and a single-elimination, best-of-three playoffs bracket.

With $250,000 on the line and one of the biggest venues we've seen in CS:GO, ESL One New York promises to be one of the most prestigious non-major tournaments of this year, alongside DreamHack's Masters events, SL i-League StarSeries and more.

I doubt it, my feeling is that Valve will be giving the last major of the year to Dreamhack as opposed to having 2 ESL majors. And yes, I know Dreamhack and ESL are owned by the same company. EDIT: Also if it is going to be a major why would they announce a 250k prize pool? All majors from now on are surely going to at least match the £1m from MLG Columbus.

It will be. Consistently one of the largest tournaments every year, it's been a major in the past and dreamhack is due for a major. Also fits the timing after ESL Cologne. Not to mention it's guaranteed to be packed, hyped, and have a lot of viewers since it's in the heart of CS that is Sweden.
