G2 beat Luminosity in Leicester

G2 are through to the Upper Bracket final of Group A at the ESL Pro League Finals after moving past Luminosity 16-12 on Train.

Following the surprising opener at the ESL Pro League finals, which saw OpTic Gaming ease past Astralis, action resumed with the other Group A match, pitting Luminosity, riding the wave after winning DreamHack Austin last weekend, and G2 Esports.

Luminosity got out to a quick 8-0 lead in the game as G2 struggled to find a way to break through their opponents' defense. It was only then that the Frenchmen finally managed to get some rounds on the board, powered by Cédric "⁠RpK⁠" Guipouy and Edouard "⁠SmithZz⁠" Dubourdeaux, but still the Brazilians sat on a comfortable 11-4 lead at the end of the half.

One more underdog story in Leicester

G2 kept themselves in the game by winning the pistol round and the following anti-eco. Luminosity then went on a kevlar/tec9 buy, but they fell short to G2's MP9s and had to go on another eco. After buying up, Luminosity were finally able to get a round as Terrorist thanks to an A split, but G2 continued grinding out rounds and brought the scoreline to a 12-12 stalemate, forcing Gabriel "⁠FalleN⁠" Toledo to call a timeout.

Despite the pep talk, Luminosity struggled to find the key against G2 as the French team continued in the driving seat, picking up the next four rounds to seal a surprising 16-12 victory.

I'm not from Brazil and I'm not big LG fan, but you guys forget that it's just bo1, which is pretty random. G2 played well, no doubts. But can they win LG in bo3 series? Don't think so.

I'd say it's very hard to predict how they're going to perform this event. On one hand, they were incredible in the beginning of the year with olof. On the other, they've been playing fairly poorly without him (although the sample size of that is quite small).

I agree, Olof's been making the difference for them. I had the privilege to watch some matches with him and I remember how great these guys played in the beginning of the year. I like all teams from Sweden and to be honest I wish Nip won it, because I can't even remember when was the last time I saw they winning, but unluckily they've been playing poorly as well.

Just out of curiosity, do you follow the scene closely? NiP won DH Masters just a few weeks ago, defeating Na'Vi 2-0 in the finals (hltv.org/match/2302129-natus-vincere-nip.. They are looking great right now, and I don't think it's unrealistic to say that they have a bigger chance to win this event than fnatic does.

My bad in this case, I didn't see it. The last one I saw was the masters won by Luminosity. The timezone here in Nz is crazy and I haven't had free time to watch more. However, like you said, they have good chances though. I'll put my trust on them!
