Astralis to use gla1ve at major

Due to Markus "Kjaerbye" Kjærbye being ineligible to play for Astralis at ESL One Cologne, Astralis will be using Lukas "gla1ve" Rossander at the major, the team has just announced on their website.

As Markus "⁠Kjaerbye⁠" Kjærbye attended the EU Minor with Dignitas, ESL One Cologne rules state that he cannot attend the major - and the offline qualifier - with any other team.

Upon swapping the youngster and René "⁠cajunb⁠" Borg with Dignitas, Astralis mentioned they will be searching for a player who will stand in for the team at the upcoming major.

Karrigan and gla1ve will reunite for the next major

That has now been announced to be CPH Wolves' 20-year-old Lukas "⁠gla1ve⁠" Rossander as one of the few options the number one in Denmark had considering they could only use players outside of the major circuit.

In a statement given to Astralis.gg, in-game leader Finn "⁠karrigan⁠" Andersen revealed the team will attend a bootcamp prior to the major to help accomodate the stand-in into their playstyle. He also stated that the goal is to reach the top eight to retain the Legends status.

"It’s an amazing chance for me. I’ve been to several Majors before, but it has been a while since the last time and both Esport and CounterStrike have evolved amazingly since then. I’m like a kid in a candy shop [laughs]." Rossander told Astralis.gg.

"I’m really honored to be picked out to play with these guys. I have played with Finn [karrigan] before, but I don’t know the other three guys, so I’m just looking forward to playing with them."

The last time gla1ve attended a major was one-and-a-half years ago, when he participated in DreamHack Winter 2014 with a different Copenhagen Wolves roster, coincidentally including a then-unproven Kjaerbye.

it's definitely the best option. considering the SK (+cadian) and dignitas rosters are locked. Therefore they could only pick from CPHW, Alpha, Tricked or lower tier danish players. gla1ve has experience and is a solid fragger. I honestly thought they would go with mertz, but this pick makes much more sense.

Glaive has proven himself in the past. nr. 1 choice of the people they could choose from.

Same in football. It is usually called cup tied. If a player has participated in a cup he can't be bought by another team and participate again during the same season. In European football there is an exception when the qualifying team does not actually reach the group stages, in this case the players are free to play for another team in the same cup during the same season. Something similar should be implemented in cs as well.

Considering the different players in Denmark, I think that gla1ve is probably the best option for Astralis. gla1ve and his girlfriend left each other late 2015/ early 2016, and this is where his individual level and consistence have increased alot. Before the lineup change for Wolves (when both percy and HUNDEN were an active part of the roster) gla1ve have had some insane carry-perfomances in really important matches. Since gla1ve seems to be a really versatile player, I think it will be easy for Astralis to fill him in and its just a bonus for him being able to 100% focus on CS. Its just a big plus that gla1ve has all the time in the world to prepare for what might be his biggest chance in csgo.

Absolutely no pressure on them for this major. Who knows, this might actually become a really, really good thing hehe

I remember when gla1ve was the leading candidate to be the IGL for Astralis back when they were still dignitas. Instead gla1ve went on to ruin his career and his reputation because he had a stupid girlfriend who he let compromise his entire career. Your argument is invalid. Just like in real sports, if X played for team A in Champions League, and he transfers to team B in the january transfer window, he is not allowed to play for team B. This is the exactly same concept. When you played for one team at a major qualifier (minor LAN), you are locked. Some might say that if one does not qualifiy for major qual (like SK) they should be allowed to stand-in for other major teams, but the rule makes perfectly sense.
