fnatic move past Astralis in New York

Two teams that were used to be among the favorites to win tournaments were looking to clash on Dust 2, both losing and winning a match yesterday.

Astralis got to start out on T-side, taking the first pistol and the obligatory following two rounds, but fnatic answerred straight back on the first gunround, avoided the reset and went on a good streak of rounds.

Interestingly Finn "⁠karrigan⁠" Andersen had figured out to get consistent plants, but the unit led by Dennis "⁠dennis⁠" Edman often got the opening kills and managed several retakes, sharing the frags evenly across the board and the much doubted John "⁠wenton⁠" Eriksson held his own on from pit just fine, helping is team to a 7-3 lead.

A saved AWP proved to be crucial in the eleventh round, where Astralis otherwise only had pistols and karrigan opened up the B site, and his team managed to get three more rounds on their T-side, but the half ended 9-6 in favor of fnatic.

As the the Swedes got their own T pistol round and also took the first gunround, it was starting to look hairy for Nicolai "⁠device⁠" Reedtz and Co.

fnatic smartly played the numbers game over the ensuing rounds and was crucially saved by wenton in the 19th round as he clutched out a 1v1 afterplant from catwalk.

Clutching at straws, karrigan called a tactical pause, and prevented his team from facing match point immediately, and they strung back another three rounds, before Simon "⁠twist⁠" Eliasson broke their hearts by clutching an afterplant one versus three on B, intelligently dancing and peeking around the boxes and the Swedes ended the map convincingly 16-9.
