Snappi: "Easiest is always the best"

Following their win against Singapore, we caught up with Marco 'Snappi' Pfeiffer of Team Denmark, who had a lot to say about their campaign at The World Championships 2016 so far.

After ending the group stage as third, Team Denmark managed to close out their quarter-final match versus the Singapore side after allowing the Asian team to get back to 14-15 on the second map.

Except about the last match, Marco "Snappi" Pfeiffer talked about his experiences with Asian teams and the goals for the final day of the tournament.

You just beat Singapore, the first map was pretty clean, but it was pretty tight on the second - what happened from your point of view?

On both maps we had a pretty bad start, we lost the first gun rounds. On Dust2 it came kind of easy, I feel like they went too aggressive on us and they lost their aim duels so we were in early advantage. And then we won the CT gun round and it was basically a done deal.

On Mirage we had a lot of trouble. I feel like we won a lot of clean Terrorist rounds but they still forced us to lose a lot of rounds. When we went to CT, I think they had a lot of luck getting picks in mid. I’m not sure as I was playing B, but I’m pretty sure it was mid where they were getting their picks. They got some rounds off that and then our economy got low so we were forced to eco a few times. On the eco’s we stacked A and they went B so it was clean rounds for them.

We managed to close it out in the last round (14-15 for Denmark), I think they thought we would stack A as they had lot of success there. But I feel like a more experienced team would probably not take such a gamble, as it really was a gamble to just straight out rush B. Me and glace were there and cadiaN was fast rotating so we basically had three there and it was shut down. We could’ve went into overtime if they had more experience.

How do you feel Singapore played in general, what do you think about their talent level, their skill? Splashske was tearing you apart in the beginning of the second half of Mirage, what do you think these guys could do with a little more experience?

I think that a lot of Asian team especially have a lot of good aimers but sometimes their map control is an issue for them. I feel this was not an issue for Singapore though, as they had a lot of control in middle, but in general for the Asian teams that is the biggest problem. When we were in China (Pro Gaming League 2016), every Chinese team had serious trouble taking map control. I think they have good set executes but they have trouble getting to them.

Snappi feels that Asian teams need to improve their map control

Talk to me about the difference about playing here in this lineup and playing in Heroic. What is the biggest change and what are the roles in Team Denmark now?

At the first day I was calling but then I just let cadiaN do it since he does it in Rogue, and I was fragging pretty good. So now I’m basically playing map control with gla1ve on most maps, though I’m playing B apps on Mirage for example. valde is mostly lurking, but sometimes it’s glace – we try to play free style and not lock ourselves in set roles.

The last match of the day is Sweden – Argentina: I won’t ask you who you think will win or who do you want to play, but who are you rooting for in the last match?

We lost to Sweden so it would be good to have revenge on those guys, but we just want to get to the final and I think it would be easier against Argentina - so I’ll be rooting for Argentina. The easiest way is always the best.

What do you think about Turkey and France, regarding their matches today? Especially the France upset over Canada?

I was actually surprised that France won, as I thought they weren’t playing that well on the first two days, but I guess they didn’t put that much effort into the seeding maps. We didn’t either. Obviously we wanted to win but maybe weren’t giving 100% and doing correct decisions - as in the back of the head you know that it doesn’t matter that much in the end. Regarding Turkey, I think they are the strongest here with us, so it doesn’t surprise me at all. I think they will be the biggest task, but Sweden is obviously be a big task that we will probably meet in the semi. But if we don’t win the tournament, I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be Turkey.

"I think they had a lot of luck getting picks in mid." You mean you out picked you cause they had better aim. Not luck when it consistently occurs.

I don't. They actually had really good setups on the cache we just watched, and they already beat us on overpass. Also they are for sure passionate, and it's awesome to see.
