WCA WCC set to start

WCA WCC features an unusual format, pitting three teams from three nations against each other, with the goal to find the strongest country, as well as the strongest team.

The tournament will last seven days, kicking off on October 13th and ending on October 19th.

The following nine teams will compete in the tournament:

To find the best team and country, a two-part tournament system will be used.

In the first part, all participating teams will play six BO1 matches against all other teams - except those from their country. The strongest team from each country will play additional matches, and after that is done the two best nations will be found.

Those two nations will then proceed to the second part of the tournament - the grand final, which will use a "KOF format" and will be played out on the final day.

The format entails teams from each country playing BO1's versus teams from the other country. When a team from one country is defeated, the next team from the same country steps up to play next.

When all teams from a country have one loss, that country can pick their strongest team to play the last-chance match. If that team is defeated as well, their nation loses the grand final.

The prize pool for the tournament will be split to the nations and the teams prize pool in the following manner:

Nations prize pool: ¥300,000 (~$45,000)

Teams prize pool: ¥450,000  (~$67,000)

Nations prize pool: ¥300,000 (~$45,000)
Teams prize pool: ¥450,000  (~$67,000)

The teams prize money will be given out for each win in the first stage of the tournament (~$2,200 per win).

Half of the nations prize pool (~$22,500) will be given out equally to all three teams from the winning nation, while the other half will be distributed according to the number of wins each team had in the grand final.
