Group B ends; SK, C9, NiP through

With the remaining three matches of Group B played out, all playoffs teams have been decided, as SK clinched fist place, Cloud9 came second and NiP third.

At the end of the day, three matches were being played at the same time to determine the three teams going through to playoffs from Group B.

SK were in prime position to secure first place in the group, but they began with a disappointing Terrorist side on Cobble against NRG, only getting five rounds on the offence while Peter "ptr" Gurney was having a great game.

With a won pistol round, the Brazilians began clawing back. NRG barely contested any of the rounds while SK's defence was on point, as Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo's team won 11 rounds in a row for 16-10 and first place in the group.

SK clinched first place in Group B

The battle between Ninjas in Pyjamas and FaZe went down on Overpass, where the Swedes got off to an amazing start as Terrorists, picking up a 9-2 lead before the half ended at 11-4. With a won pistol round, Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund and company had little to no trouble closing out the map and eliminating FaZe at 16-7.

Cloud9 and Dignitas played a very close Mirage at the beginning, but it was the Danes who stabilized towards the end of the first half for a 9-6 half as Counter-Terrorists.

Winning a pistol round on top of it, Mathias "MSL" Lauridsen's team got up to 12-6, but a strong defence from Cloud9 allowed them to climb back to 12-12. Dignitas managed to win one of the next two rounds, but Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert and company continued dominating in the remaining three for a 16-13 victory.

Group B Maps Wins

2. United States Cloud9 5 4
3. Sweden Ninjas in Pyjamas 5 3
4. Europe FaZe 5 2
5. Denmark Dignitas 5 2
6. Europe NRG 5 0

As SK won the head-to-head encounter with Cloud9, the Brazilians secured a place in the semi-finals, leaving the North American team in second place.

Yes. They had a bad tournament like Na'Vi did at Starladder. Now look where Na'Vi are. Liquid will be right behind them soon.

I understand that you may be a fan of Liquid but why are you mad that C9 are playing well? Its not like they're playing well at the expense of Liquid and its better for the NA scene overall.

Because there is a rivalry between Cloud9 and Team Liquid fans on who is the best NA team? And I'm a Team Liquid fan? I'm not a nationalist, so I don't care if it's an NA team winning. For me, it has to be Team Liquid that comes out on top, as it is for every fan and their team. I never understood people who cheer for a team simply because they come from their own country.

Im not overly nationalistic either, it just makes me happy to see the scene as a whole do well. As for the first part, I understand where you're coming from but it seemed like a bit of an overreaction imo.

S1mple was the catalyst that elevated liquid to such heights. Any top flight NA team (c9, clg, liquid) within that timespan would have accrued similar results. His output and impact is quantifiable through analytics. Being a die-hard fan is normal, but will cloud one's ability to objectively analyse events and data. This goes for all sports, and is acutely evident in fantasy leagues. Tl;dr/hltv reading level: ez 4 ne1 - sum1 + s1mple

I think s1mple elevated Liquid in two ways: s1mple's own raw skill (which people note the most, if not only) and in confidence. While s1mple himself was playing monstrously, this display gave the Liquid players some confidence, and they started playing some of the best CS they had ever played so far. While EliGE may not have liked s1mple, s1mple had some effect on EliGE. Before s1mple ever joined the team, EliGE wasn't even near the monster he is today (excluding the Sao Paulo brutal rape). I think ESL New York shows that Liquid can tangle with the best, and I'm going to exclude EliGE's overperformance. Liquid's hard countering Na'Vi on Train is a great example of what Liquid can do (but that was with peacemaker. I don't know what's going to happen to them in the future). I just hope whoever is the next IGL can fill peacemaker's shoes, but I doubt that.

You seemed reasonable on the other thread, but now your just a liquid fangay. C9>>> Liquid S2K>>>Elige And why the fuck are you so mad C9 just made it out of groups and beat 2 tier 1 teams, and faze, improving our scene and your being a salty fanboy go kys you stupid disgrace.

True. Cloud9 farming teams online and farming tier 3 EU teams, they would look better. The times Cloud9 were legitimately better than Liquid were ELEAGUE and right now. Liquid always had the harder path until now, where there is no excuse against the fact that they played like silver 3's.

C9 have beat more teams, but not better. Liquid and Cloud9 both struggle to beat true tier 1 teams. The difference comes in how close the games are. You say "close games mean shit. Its a win or lose." You mean to tell me that a 22-19 game is on the same caliber of a 16-2 game? You mean to tell me that if two teams played the same team, and one team lost 14-16 while another team lost 8-16, that it's basically the same thing? Both teams are equal? Sorry, but that's just not true. While there may be alot of variables as to why X team got more rounds than Y team, it gives us a general consensus that we can take until we see for ourselves why X team did better than Y team.

Liquid did what ? Make it to semis and then finals of a major being carried by s1mple ( and Elige, a bit ). Now their main carry is gone and they replaced it with a t2 danish player. Meanwhile, C9 is improving NA scene and making young talents rise to the top, and it worked well so far, even tho it took time. You won't see Liquid on the top anytime soon imo. They had one good tournament at NY, thanks to Elige,s godlike performance, and thats it. C9 are actually getting to playoffs of international tournaments several times in a row, against tough teams to beat as well. They didn't beat them but maps went to double digits. They are really improving like dig, Heroic.

Northern Arena: ACE Gaming, Rogue, CLG, Heroic, bagged by Immortals Starladder: EnVyUs (with DEVIL), VG.CyberZen, Flipsid3, bagged by NiP DreamHack Bucharest: Flipsid3, FaZe, EnVyUs (with DEVIL), Bagged by VP Tough teams to beat? People like to dump it all on s1mple as if the other players were sitting on single digits while he was dropping triple digits. s1mple was the MVP for Liquid, make no dispute. And he played a large part in them getting their results. But the other Liquid players also performed very well. Liquid were the only team before Na'Vi to actually help s1mple rather than leave him out on his own. Wanna talk carrying? Cloud9 without Stewie? Cloud9 without autimatic?

Every team has a regular carrying player. nV has KennyS, C9 has Stew, SK has cold, dig has Magisk... I didn't say C9 had beaten top teams, but they made it to finals of international events, or in the top 4, and they've had insane online seasons ( you're gonna say tier 4 competition, but Liquid is in the same division and they got awful results ). Liquid shouldn't even be attending this event.

You say Liquid shouldn't have attended this event as if you foreshadowed that they'd do terribly. Compared to New York, this is flat out horrible [Liquid's performance]. I thought that they'd be able to at least get to the playoffs, but my heart is left broken. nV hardly gets carried by kennyS anymore. Players like NBK and apEX are stepping up massively, while kenny looks to be warming up again. cold is consistent but he isn't a hard carry. He has his games sometimes but fer has the occassional hard carry game too. SK is a very balanced team. I don't see any carriers there.

RIP Dignitas mate. So hyped for them coming to this tournament and then showing a really meh performance. Just disappointed, i hope that this was because of Magisk food poisoning otherwise this was just a bad performance.

It really is not. Magisk topfragged all games except the last one (Even so, he was the second best fragger with only two kills less than the topfragger), he even had a +20 map, iirc.
