G2 to semi-finals over Liquid
G2 are through to the semi-finals at Northern Arena after defeating Team Liquid 2-1 in Group A's decider match (16-13 on Train, 11-16 on Cache and 16-5 on Nuke).
Train began with G2 getting out to a 4-0 lead following a great start on the Terrorist side. After getting their economy stabilised, Liquid got three rounds on the board to pull within one, but G2 hit back and strung three rounds together to restore a big lead. That was when Liquid's offense flourished once again as they won five rounds straight to take a narrow 8-7 lead going into the second half.
G2 once again got off to a great start, winning the pistol round with a quad kill by Adil "ScreaM" Benrlitom and then following it up with two anti-eco rounds. But two failed afterplants in the first two gun rounds put Liquid back in the game as they brought the score back to a tie.
The North Americans slowly gained control of the game and brought the scoreline to a 12-10 advantage, but then G2 started their own run of rounds and reached map point. Spencer "Hiko" Martin still gave North American fans some hope with a 1v3 clutch, but G2 would lock down the map in the following round in a 2v5 situation.

ScreaM led the charge for G2 on Train
Next up was Cache, G2's map pick, and the Frenchmen came out with fire in their bellies once again, storming to a 5-0 lead. Liquid tigthened their defense and battled back, eventually taking a solid lead, but the French side still got the final two rounds of the half, the second of which in a 1v2 clutch by ScreaM with the AWP.
The second half began with Liquid winning the pistol round, a first in the series, only to collapse in the following anti-eco as Edouard "SmithZz" Dubourdeaux won a 1v2 clutch with two quick headshots. But the North Americans were not going to let the game slip away from them and went on a massive run to secure a convincing 16-11 win and take the match to a third map.

Liquid hit back on Cache but were unable to complete the reverse sweep
It all came down to Nuke, where Alexandre "bodyy" Pianaro gave G2 an early lead thanks to a quad kill in the pistol round. The Frenchmen did not let off the gas and continued amassing rounds, with the scoreline blooming to a 7-0 advantage for them. With no margin for error, Liquid bagged three rounds in a row, but G2 continued to dominate the first half and limited their opponents to just four rounds in the first half.
More misery was to come for Liquid, as G2 won the first three rounds of the second half to get on the brink of victory. The first full gun round would go Liquid's way, but it was too little, too late, as G2 rallied back to take the map, 16-5, and progress to the semi-finals of the Montreal event.
