OpTic blow past NRG, 2-0, to semis
OpTic made it to the semifinals—where they will play Heroic—after beating NRG in the last decider match of the day in Montreal. They won the first map, Dust2, 16-9, and followed it up on Cobblestone, 16-5.
OpTic and NRG came into this match having played three maps yesterday—one for Northern Arena and two for ECS—, with the former coming out on top on all three of them: Nuke, Cobblestone, and Cache. The first map of today’s best-of-three decider was one not played the day before, Dust2, in which NRG hoped to change yesterday’s dynamics. OpTic started out swimmingly winning the T side pistol round with tarik getting a triple, and then establishing an early lead with five straight rounds.
Three AWP frags by Peter "ptr" Gurney and two by Fatih "gob b" Dayik got NRG on the board, but were instantly reset by OpTic who scored three more rounds in a row to further their lead to 8-2. OpTic were then able to continuously find openings in the defense and ran away with the half not giving up any more rounds.

mixwell’s thirty bomb propelled OpTic past NRG on Dust2
Four glock headshots by ptr kept NRG alive, and the German-American team starting grinding their way back into the map round by round, winning seven of the first eight rounds. OpTic were finally able to squeeze in a second round to get 15, though, with a triple by Oscar "mixwell" Cañellas and Tarik "tarik" Celik cleaning up the last two NRG players pushing onto the A site from short. The map got closed off after NRG were unable to defend a 3vs3 afterplant in the B bombsite, with mixwell and tarik defusing the situation and the bomb without a hitch.
Cobblestone, the second map, was the closest one played yesterday, but it was eventually OpTic who came out on top. In the same manner, today OpTic started winning the pistol round on the terrorist side and got a quick 3-0 lead. A 1vs2 clutch by Jacob "FugLy" Medina in an afterplant situation kept NRG within reach early in the match.

stanislaw’s CT pistol round on Cobblestone was the nail in NRG’s coffin
After mixed results and a 4-3 lead, NRG were able to stop OpTic, who seemed to have trouble losing players early in the round on the default set-up, to tie it up 4-4 and put their rivals on an eco. With the game starting to go their way, NRG dropped the ball losing against an unarmored pistol buy and giving OpTic the chance to get back in the game. Finally, OpTic found their footing and got a 10-5 lead going into the switch.
Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz got three opening pistol kills with a huge flank, and closed the pistol round out with four tallies to keep OpTic’s momentum going. NRG tried to exploit A in the first gun round, but were forced to fall back towards drop and eventually long as their players perished one by one, and OpTic got themselves two rounds away from taking the series. Inevitably, OpTic rolled over NRG, 16-5, for a spot in the semifinals.
