K23 win WESG APAC Finals

Kazakh team K23 win the WESG 2016 Asia-Pacific Regional Finals after crushing Chinese team FIVE 2-0 (16-5 on Mirage and 16-7 on Train) in the grand finals.

Three days of action in Goyang, South Korea at the WESG 2016 Asia-Pacific Regional Finals culminated on the fourth day with the grand final of the $75,000 event (which also doled out six spots to the WESG Global Finals).

A couple big names such as MVP Project, Athletico, and VG.CyberZen fell by the wayside as the event progressed, with the Chinese heavyweights having to use Taiwanese stand-in Tzu-Chi "Marek" Huang due to Bin "Savage" Liu's head injury and all three teams from the Oceania region using a conflicting mix of stand-ins to fit the roster rules as well.

The grand final of the event was a clash between Kazakh super team K23 (including all three Kazakh players from Gambit) and the surprise Chinese sleeper team FIVE, who managed to upset VG.CyberZen in the event's semifinal.

The Kazakh players of Gambit put in monstrous performances for K23 at WESG APAC

The grand final however turned out to be a completely one-sided show as superb performances from Rustem "mou" Telepov and Abay "HObbit" Khassenov (with both players also being coincidentally the top two rated at the event overall) propelled K23 to a 16-5 victory on FIVE's map pick of Mirage and a 16-7 victory on their own map pick of Train.

As a result, K23 take the first place prize $29,500 and are also of course assured a spot at the WESG Global Finals.
