Astralis take opener in Vegas

The opening match at DreamHack Masters Las Vegas pitted the Major winners, Astralis, and compLexity. The map, which was played out on Nuke, went the way of the Danes, 16-5.

The match started out with Complexity going from hell to heaven on their terrorist pistol round and taking over the A site on nuke. The round ended with Nicolai "device" Reedtz winning a 1vs1 against Bradley "ANDROID" Fodor but unable to defuse the bomb. The Danes were quick to strike back, however, forcing up and winning the second round to bring it to an early tie.

The first full buy round for both sides came in the fifth round, with Astralis increasing their lead to 4-1 after a failed attempt by Complexity to put up a wall of smokes outside and work their way into the site. The North American team tried a similar play on their next buy round, taking yard and winning their duels to take a second round.

Astralis took the opening match in Las Vegas against compLexity

It looked like Complexity were going to link a second round in a row after getting two entries, but a quad kill by Peter "dupreeh" Rasmussen in a 2vs5 situation on the catwalk in B site nullified Complexity’s site take attempt. With Astralis up 8-2, Complexity called the first time-out of the match, although it didn’t help as Astralis kept their momentum going to take the half, 13-2, without giving up another round.

The second half started out going Complexity’s way, as the North Americans were able to win pistols and followed it up winning the following two rounds. In the first buy round, Astralis were able to quickly gain control of ramp and the B site and decimated the CTs to get on the brink of map point, 14-5. Once again, Astralis flexed their muscles and entered the A site cleanly before closing it out, 16-5.

Key Moment: dupreeh got four kills on the B site from catwalk in the eighth round, in a 2vs5 situation, stopping Complexity’s site take and resetting their economy.

PotM: Peter "dupreeh" Rasmussen took the PotM award, with 124.5 ADR, a big four kill round early in the match to reset Complexity, and seven multi-kill rounds.

If I were in coL's shoes right now, I would look at it as we got 5 rounds on the major champions, accept it & bring it the nrxt match & go 1-1 & fight for my playoff life on Friday in a BO3 for experience!

+1 they did well for 5 rounds. They should just use it as a learning curve and take what they can from it.
