IEM Katowice 2017FaZe ease past IMT, AST defeat OpTic
FaZe secured their first win at IEM Katowice 2017 by defeating Immortals 16-6 on Overpass while Astralis edged out OpTic 16-12 on Train.
FaZe and Immortals took to Overpass for their first match of IEM Katowice 2017, with the European mixture starting on the Terrorist side and in brilliant form. After picking up the pistol round, FaZe lost the first buy round to a three-man A long stack from the Brazilians, but they bounced back in the following one with a successful B site execute.
That reset the economy of the CT's and FaZe used that to run away with the lead in the first half as Nikola "NiKo" Kovač and Håvard "rain" Nygaard topped the scoreboard to make the first half 11-4.
NiKo seems to be enjoying his new team
NiKo and Fabien "kioShiMa" Fiey picked off the first three players that approached the B site on the pistol round, setting their team up for a clean round win. Following the anti-eco's which FaZe closed out easily, the European team was quick to finish the match 16-6, with the final round coming from a low-buy mid push.

In the match that was played on the secondary stream Astralis picked up the CT pistol round on Train, but the Danish team was instantly reset as OpTic won the force buy and strung together the five following rounds. The North American side had their chances to run away with the first half, but Astralis' force-buys and Andreas "Xyp9x" Højsleth's clutch plays made the score 8-7 in favor of the Danes after the first half.
The pistol round went the round of OpTic, but after they picked up a couple of rounds the map was closed outout by Astralis as Oscar "mixwell" Cañellas and co. struggled to secure consecutive rounds or win clutches.
