Chiefs secure IEM Sydney spot

With a 2-0 win over Tainted Minds in the grand final, Chiefs managed to win the ANZ closed qualifier to secure a spot at IEM Sydney.

The IEM Sydney 2017 ANZ Closed Qualifier has just concluded as Chiefs won the deciding match versus Tainted Minds which secures them a spot at IEM Sydney.

Both teams went through upper bracket with clean 2-0 wins but when they faced each other in the upper bracket final, Chiefs clinched the victory. Tainted Minds weren't done yet, and they managed to make it to the grand final where they had to win two best-of-three series.

malta had a great match versus Tainted Minds

Due to coming from the upper bracket, Chiefs only had to win one best-of-three series, and they did that convincingly. The first map was Cobblestone which Tainted Minds picked, but Chiefs had a great run on the CT side and even though the opponents were close to make a comeback, Chiefs managed to secure the map 16-12.

The second map was Nuke and Chiefs looked very promising on their own pick. Tainted Minds couldn't do much versus Peter "pecks" Nguyen and co. as Chiefs won 16-5.

yes thats bad considering its an iem tournament in sydney with a 200k prize pool. You would expect 8 top 10 teams not only half of the teams being top 10 teams and three of the teams being teams who have 0% chance of making it out of groups

They're obviously going to include aus/nz teams in the first international tournament in aus since crown a couple of years back. Gotta give the home crowd someone to cheer for right? Not sure why they felt the need to include a chinese team tho. Pretty pointless

I'm okay with two aus teams, I disagree with optic and vici though.

RIP the interstate LAN qualifiers. Theres still no money in CS. Less money on a stage and fancy confetti and lets have some national qualifiers. I know its scary but rocking up to a net cafe isn't THAT hard?

I feel bad for the organizers getting Optic, who knew that Stanis would leave like that and leave a broken lineup behind. So much potential there, potentially the best NA team in CS GO history and he had to go fuck it up lol.

Regardless of the teams attending this is still a good step forward for esports in Aus.
