Gambit to Summit final over OpTic

It took Gambit three maps to knock OpTic out of the competition in Los Angeles. They started winning Inferno, 16-10, lost Mirage, 16-9, and won Cobblestone, 16-6.

The match started out on Inferno with Gambit taking the pistol round on the terrorist side after a play on the B site. Gambit were then able to follow up on the anti-ecos for a 3-0 lead. Both teams then traded rounds for a 6-4 partial after 10 rounds.

As the half progressed Gambit found ways to get passed OpTic’s defenses, and started winning round after round with Danylo "Zeus" Teslenko’s trademark slow methodical play on the attacking side of Inferno for a 10-5 partial.

Having won the second pistol round, Gambit increased their lead to 12-5 after the anti-eco. Having planted the bomb, OpTic were able to buy on the third round of the half and won it after getting the opening frag on Rustem "mou" Telepov in mid to keep their hopes alive.

With 13-9 on the board and Gambit having trouble with their economy, it looked like OpTic were looking to make a comeback, but Dauren "AdreN" Kystaubayev was able to tally the 14th round for his team after killing four players who came one by one and played in and around smokes.

With the momentum on their side, Gambit were able to close Inferno on the CT side, 16-10, ahead of OpTic’s map, Mirage.

Gambit won Inferno in large part thanks to the Kazakh triad

On Mirage, a triple by mou and a double by Mihail "Dosia" Stolyarov gave Gambit the first round, but a wall of smokes and several p250 kills gave the North American team the round. OpTic were then able to capitalize on the anti-ecos and take the 3-1 lead.

Playing their own brand of slow CS, OpTic kept finding holes in the CIS team’s defenses for an 8-2 lead after ten rounds, and not allowing Gambit to build an economy. OpTic then gave a single round more before the switch.

Gambit won the second pistol round, too with AdreN posting a double and Abay "HObbit" Khassenov posting a triple. OpTic won a p250 to get onto 13 rounds, but Gambit quickly started to mount the comeback in large part thanks to the team’s Kazakh trio all the way to 13-9.

Finally OpTic were able to get the 14th round after stopping an A push, and were then able to get on match point thanks to a smoke defuse by Tarik "tarik" Celik who was left standing with 3hp after the round ended. OpTic then closed the map out, 16-9, to take it to the decider, Cobblestone.

OpTic brought it to a decider after winning Mirage 16-9

The map started out with OpTic taking the pistol round, but Gambit were able to tie in the second. Rounds then were traded before Gambit started to run away with the half, taking eight of the last ten rounds before the switch, for an 11-4 lead.

OpTic won the second pistol round of the map but Gambit were once again able to snatch the forcebuy, putting OpTic in dire straits both monetarily and on the scoreboard. After that Gambit quickly ran away with the side, not allowing OpTic a chance to come back for a 16-6 score at the end of the map.

3rd, 4th, and 5-6th is not bad. Considering European teams went 5th-6th, 7th, and 8th, and TBD but probably 2nd. They had more teams an mostly worst placings.

Dude, C9 is doing a great job. They are Tier1 for sure. Optic tier 2, but increasing. EUA has lot to be proud.

Good recovery from gambit after a disgusting yesterday's showing. Winning Optic was still a hard task taking into consideration the fact that they were on paper considered a team to get knocked out first yet they managed to best EnVy, C9 and Liquid. Gg to both

GGWP OpTic, tbh didn't expect them to get this far (especially after their first game in the tournament), but they delivered. Hope they can do well at IEM Sydney too. JR needs to put some more work on his calling, but it's not all that bad overall.
