Gambit win DreamHack Open Austin

Gambit have been crowned champions at DreamHack Open Austin following a 2-0 win against Immortals in the grand final (Train 16-12, Inferno 16-12).

Train kicked off the grand final of DreamHack Open Austin as the choice of Gambit, who started as Terrorists and conceded the first three rounds after Lincoln "fnx" Lau put up three kills in the initial pistol round.

The CIS-based side then began abusing weaknesses in the B bombsite, sending Immortals on ecos three times in a row en route to a 6-3 lead. Switching up to the A bombsite afterwards didn't work out, however, as the Brazilians picked Gambit off one by one and went on to retake their lead at 7-6.

The last two rounds were split between the two teams, with Danylo "Zeus" Teslenko winning a 1v2 in a semi-forcebuy round and Immortals closing out the half for 8-7.

mou and Dosia led the way on Train

Rustem "mou" Telepov's quick double turned a disadvantageous situation in Gambit's favor in the following pistol round, and with Zeus single-handedly taking control of T main in the first gunround, his team grabbed the first four rounds.

Immortals then ran a few successful A executes, in one of which Gambit had the upper hand but ended up looking for the bomb for too long, and turned it into a 12-11 lead.

However, Mihail "Dosia" Stolyarov's triple and a 1v1 clutch started a streak for his team, who then retook B in a 2v2 and denied two A executes at the end to clinch the first map 16-12.

The second map was Inferno, where Gambit grabbed a 3-0 lead following mou and Abay "HObbit" Khassenov each getting doubles in B defense. Immortals replied in the first gunround with an A execute, but another variation of the strategy ended up in flames as the Brazilians' economy was reset.

HObbit was the man of the hour afterwards with a triple and a 1v2 in two of the following four rounds, while a smart A stack from Zeus in a 3v4 gave Gambit a dominating 9-1 lead. Lucas "steel" Lopes's squad then woke up and closed out the half with five rounds in a row when the CIS-based squad couldn't trade kills on either bombsite.

Gambit clinched their second DreamHack Open trophy after Winter edition

Immortals locked a 2v2 retake on the A bombsite in the second pistol round, but they lost their chance to equalize the score when Gambit forced up and attacked B successfully.

With that, Dauren "AdreN" Kystaubayev's squad began racking up rounds, keeping their three Mac10's in the first gunround and turning it into a huge economic advantage thanks to an explosive A tactic.

HObbit's breathtaking double entry with that same weapon on B forced Immortals to save three guns, including an M4 on Henrique "HEN1" Teles who used it to open up banana with two kills and finish the round by clutching a 1v2. That sparked life in his team who went on to win a 2v2 on B and decimated the next few attacks towards A, closing the gap to 12-14.

However, a well-timed attack with only Tec9's and armor from apps allowed Gambit to reach match point and subsequently clinch their second DreamHack Open trophy at 16-12.

Yes but in this case Dosia is also the highest rated player for Gambit in the tournament, and the second highest out of everyone at the event.

Actually, I'd say it would have been between Dosia and mou. AdreN had an amazing map against Hellraisers and a good second half against Heroic, but he wasn't that impressive in any of the other maps, save for a few rounds. Between Dosia and mou it was very close, both stepped up in the important matches, both had good clutches (2 x 1v3 from mou and Dosia won all 4 1v1 he had.). If anything, I'd say Dosia slightly edges it because mou wasn't that solid on the T side.

If it was Steel or Boltz doing the vetoes, know you fucked up huge. Picking inferno when last week you saw SK lose 16-10 to them. Also, way to lose with that second pistol on train. 4v2 and u manage to advance too much, take 2 one-taps and the third guy was already spotted. Time to fix those dumb mistakes.

100% agree on the pistol ! seems players have it set in their head you HAVE to push up take that ground.. when really the moment you get 4v2 there should be an instinctive alarm going off in someones head - 4v2 RUN AWAY the round is impossible to lose if they just waste time Very hard thing to do without experience in games that have a bigger emphasis on numbers advantages. TF2 for example, you focus mostly on team oriented deathmatch and generally don't kill in 1 shot, a battle on a front takes place and both sides take casualties, the side with, say, 4v3 or 3v2 after the initial engagement always goes aggressive and takes territory. There are a lot more game mechanics that matter, but numbers advantage is one of the most vital factors throughout the game and it becomes a natural thing to give ground or take ground in these situations. Surely it can be trained into players who only play CSGO, by playing other Team DM oriented training matches and going through these situations over and over. In CSGO the mindset of players seems to be a rigid thing, as a result of the game having great complexity, and a lot of set ideas need to be in place as a team; players have specific tasks when an execute on a site occurs. It makes sense for players to commonly continue on the general idea, like pushing up in this case, because people can only process so much information at once. I suppose they could just drill these situations so it becomes second nature, but you can't overload players with set plans for situations either, too much to remember. It has to be an instinctive gamesense built up over time. In the heat of battle egos take over sometimes too ? getting frag hungry in such an intense skill based game can't be criticized completely, it's a tricky thing to solve, easy to see from the outside of course.. but yeah that was a massive mistake and sadly too common

That's a thing the in game leader has to call. It was a won round that turned in a nightmare. They would be up 11-7 and could be calm to close the game. But Immortals is a young and reckless team that lacks a leader, since Steel isn't a good one. You can count with boltz to play smart, but besides this, you have hen1, fnx and lucas1 playing sloppy or without proper thinking, so there's that. They need to improve their trade fragging because it was horrible int this tournament, so many mistakes.

GG WP by Gambit, well deserved! And I have to say that Brazilians are more friendly than before, they don't make sour comments any more after losing a game. Much kindness.

G2 is finished. They will not get to the top with this called "SUPERTEAM" They need to get a man with brain in to there team. A player that calm them down, that can do the imposible in the worst situations. The player is Happy. With Happy they get what they need to win. And they will win with Happy
