dignitas, passions to Minor qualifier

dignitas and passions have secured spots in the closed qualifier for the European Minor after finishing top two in the third open bracket.

Over 500 teams from around Europe took part in the tournament, featuring a single-elimination bracket, for the chance to earn a spot in the closed rounds.

As always, some big-name teams bowed out of the qualifier early, such as iGame.com, who were defeated by Outlaws in the Round of 128, and Copenhagen Games champions Singularity, who are ranked 23rd in the world but could not move past EnVyUs Academy in the Round of 32.

fox's dignitas through to the closed rounds

dignitas, who have been playing with Jorgen "cromen" Robertsen and Jesper "TENZKI" Plougmann after seemingly parting ways with Mikail "Maikelele" Bill and Faruk "pita" Pita, finished top two after a solid run that culminated with best-of-three victories over ESG! and WASD.

From the other half of the bracket came passions, a Swedish team featuring former Epsilon Hype member Hampus "hampus" Poser. After edging past Timothée "DEVIL" Démolon's MAXISAUCISSE on three maps, they beat ALTERNATE aTTaX 2-0 to assure themselves of a surprising top-two finish in the qualifier.

This means that the following 14 teams are already confirmed for the closed qualifier for the European Minor, which will run from May 18-19:

Germany BIG France Envy
Sweden Epsilon  Denmark HEROIC
Poland Kinguin  Europe LDLC
Sweden Ninjas in Pyjamas Turkey Space Soldiers
Denmark North Academy Europe PENTA
Sweden fnatic Academy Denmark Tricked
Norway Dignitas Sweden passions

The final two spots in the Swiss closed qualifier will be determined through the fourth open bracket, for which teams can sign up by going here.

in football "academy teams" (known here as B teams, or secondary ones that play lower leagues) cannot ascend to the same league their "real" counterpart is in, i.e. if your B squad wins the 2nd League they cannot get into premier because the actual team has a spot there.

The academy team obviously can qualify, otherwise they wont be there in the first place and valve already would've done something about it, but i still think that both fnatic and north will sell them in case they qualify, for the time they are at the tournament, theres a lot of orgs who would like to have a team there, and both north and fnatic can get a pretty good deal for them during the duration of the major. Btw how many team go from the european minor to the final qualifier?
